Any ideas on how to get a neighbor to move?

Or at least move her structure a bit more skywards? Over the course of the weekend, my neighbor has purchased 90% of the neighboring plots surrounding me and constructed this massive structure for BDSM shops and RP that literally hangs just a few meters in the air. Prims are the 40x40 ones, and are just.. so huge, that not even a landscaping wall would hide them.

I know this may be a dumb question but....have you contacted them yet? How did it go if you did...why not if you havent? Best suggestion would be to say that if they move it above at least cloud level it will reduce lag for everyone involved. May or may not work, but its worth a shot?

Welcome to mainland living
09-10-2007 19:54
Unfortunatly there isn't much that can be done. It is what comes with living on the mainland. However, if she is using mega prims and they are right up to her property lines then i bet that if you look at the minimap they are actually showing as covering surrounding properties she doesn't own. I would then right click one of the mega prims and select 'report abuse' from the radial menu.

Also I am trying to gather support for a nifty feature that will allow you to visually make other peoples stuff vanish off of your screen. Please check it out.

Isn't that the thing that blew up the White House in "Independence Day"?

A new renter on my sim border put up a hot pink club this morning. One very cordial and civil IM later, he changed it to a much more palatible dark purple. Sometimes you get lucky with your requests.

Well darn, sorry about that. I dont understand why neighbors arent more willing to work with each other to make areas nice, but I guess since they are closed up in a huge box they dont give a rats....er...hushing now....

I recently had to sell some land because a neighbour put up the most awful looking 'club' with flashing lights, tracker spotlights, particles etc. I sold the land to someone who then, 2 seconds later sold the land to the neighbour.....mmmmm, methinks I've been had...

Anyway, my point being, that some lovely looking sims are being absolutely ruined by thoughtless builds....and while everyone has the right to build what they want on their own land, some consideration should be shown towards others. I have always tried to give anything I build, a sort of 'organic' feel, and blend in with the landscape. I bought land in a fairly new sim, with no-one around for miles, just the way I like it.... :-) So happy with myself, no lag, no eye-sores. Then wouldn't you know, someone bought a plot of land, and guess what plot they chose???? The one right next to mine.....This is almost a completely empty sim, with plots for sale as far as the eye can see....must be my magnetic personality.lol.....

I guess the only solution is to go skyward....

You could pick up some giant trees at the arbor project; rather dramatic but it'd cover it...

Could you IM the club name? I want to make sure I and my Mistress (and our friends) never make our way there...and say why.

Nothing you can do but wait it out. I've lived next to some fearful ugly builds, they all went away in time. Besides, the apocalypse of age verification is upon us and her business model will be changing in the near future. Smart "adult" content business owners will want to group together to take advantage of an *ahem* captive audience of those who have age verified.

And of course you could offer your land to her at top dollar and buy somewhere else while a ton of inexpensive land in nice areas is available.

Normally, I would wait it out, but, since land prices are so low, it may be time to upgrade for you! But this time, shop around, check out the new neighborhood, the less parcels in a sim the better and the less parcels for sale, even better! Look at each parcel and see how long it has been owned. There are many decent mainland places in SL, you just have to look.

I would agree with this, but be prepared to move again in a week or two when the next one moves next to your new land. :p

My guess would be that she's planning to use parcel access restrictions, so she kept the top of the build at the top of the restriction line. Otherwise the structure would seem a natural skybox. Of course there are other ways to restrict access to a group or to paying customers, so maybe that's not the explanation... but if she doesn't know how else to do it, maybe setting up a consultation with another sky club owner would help.

build an huge wall with white bricks and full bright on the border (maybe at a 20m light source aswell at that hight) and make ur side transparant with an alpha texture (don`t bother making phantom)

ticked off a person i had a prim war with and she packed overnight after cteating an 170m long by 85m high wall (just had a nice sunset beack on my side)

Don't think that would help in this case. I doubt they'd be looking out the windows much even if they had any.

Why is nobody posting the obvious answer? The only way to make sure your neighbour moves, is to buy her out.

I wouldn't want to live next to it, but it's her land and she can do what she likes with it.

What I mean by upgrade is to buy a huge parcel, 1/2 of a sim or more, and protected on at least one side. I only suggest from my experience. At one time, I have 40% of Mocis sim, but bad neighbors with huge prims set with light source and full bright ruin the place. So, I sell it all and move to Lunata the week land prices fall. There, it is protected on two ocean fronts, and all neighbors were carefully selected by seller - the land was never listed for sale! The sim has myself holding about 35K sqm and the rest is divided among 4 other people. That is kind of land to look for. I am always prepared to buy out the rest of sim and raise my tier for preservation of the sim and my enjoyment.

I visit area OP protests, problems are that it is in new continents - uncontrollable land transfers and their parcel is surrounded by other parcels - no protected land!

LL will do nothing about huge prims. It is useless to complain about them.

You're right. She can do whatever she wants with it, but it doesn't mean she should. SL has proven to me that anarchy just doesn't work. The few always seem to spoil it for the majority who respect each other. Give me a nice controlled lot on an estate any day. Sure, I don't want to be controlled, but I sure want my neighbors to be.

Wow Jessy you're nearly my neighbor! I'm sure you've noticed my gigantic Dolly Heart mountains all along the edge of my sim, Devolin Mal? Well, guess why? I don't know if you have the space for them on your land, but they are a godsend if you can use them.

My guests and residents can't see that square turd of a build, and the "real" neighbors have all said they like the mountains anyway.

This is true, Raymond, but would be a shame. If you look around Jessy's place, most of the rest of this area is really nice. If everybody just packed up every time a nasty piece of junk popped up, then the trashy people would win.

Jessy, I'm not sure where you've been, when you say "over the course of the weekend." That Medieval Borg cube has been there for at least a month or two. I had almost forgotten about it since I blocked it out so long ago.

Easiest thing to do is pack up and move.

How can I look around? There's a huge concrete structure in the way.

I agree, it's admitting defeat to move. But ultimately you want to find a place to live where you are happy every time you log on, no aggravated. With 500 sims worth of mainland for sale right now, I'll bet there is another area that will be just as nice. Regardless, it sucks.

Where I have my residential property, I've waited out many clubs & obnoxious builds.

I win!

My new neighbors are so far quite decent. The club is in the sky. The shop behind me is not a problem either.

BTW- some things come in quite handy: excessive particle emitters (folks are sometimes too lazy to turn particle settings down), scanners (lag city!), and just plain ol' waiting 'em out.

Clubs & Malls come and go in SL. Its always just a matter of time.

Unfortunately, it would be the kind of thing that would make everyone want YOU to move - a shouting object, in this case, preferably shouting Bible verses. ;)
