I haven't found information about this in any forum yet.
It's increasingly difficult to find a private place where I can try on clothes, make little adjustments to my appearance, match accessories - you know, important stuff! I hit on the idea of going to a sandbox and rezzing a room around myself. It needs to be about 6 meters square to give enough room so the camera isn't embedded in a wall when I'm inspecting myself. I am not so worried about peeping toms -- we're all just cartoons after all. It is for the sake of propriety.
Would this be considered rude for any reason? If I am unclothed inside a little room no one can see into (without a lot of effort) am I violating PG rules? I know the room is a little large, but I don't do this in a crowded sandbox, and will take the thing with me when I leave.
Any advice? Thanks --KC

Rent a small apartment. OR go to a mature sim and walk away from the crowd and change your clothes out there.

Personally, I just fly way up in the sky, change, give it as second to rez, then land again in my new outfit (waiting for the oohs and ahhs I'm sure my outfit will inspire ). Tools like the mystitool have the ability to rez a platform that will take you up high - which is useful if you needed to unpack things, or see how you looked in a standing pose.

Some people I know go underwater to dress. If you go to NCI, they have dressing rooms, I pretty much lived in one for a while in the beginning. Then I got a small freebie house, and would set it up in a sandbox and dress there, until I got my own place.

From: White Hyacinth Rent a small apartment. I rented a little appartment my very first week and the only reason was to have somewhere to change, unpack without the hassle of having to find somewhere private to try things on. It was another 2-3 weeks before I had any furniture in it at all . You should be able to find something for L$200-300/week easy.

I have seen portable changing screens. It was quite a while back, but one of my friends had one. I think it was cone shaped.

Bring up your MAP screen. Find a vacant area and TP there to do your changing things. Islands work best if you can find one of the new ones that are on Class 5 servers.

I don't remember where I got it, but somewhere I picked up a "newbie changing hut" when I was a newbie. I don't know if I still have it or not, but I'm sure you could find something similar. It looks like a little beach tent. It isn't as large as your room, but it was invented for the same purpose.
I rarely used it because some people had auto return set to a very short time and I never had time to undress and dress before the tent would disappear! I guess it depends on where you rez it though.

As a newbie I changed where ever I felt like. Since changing clothes doesn't mean getting undressed in most cases it was just a difference in right clicking 'wear' on my pair of pants and watching my shorts instantly become pants. It wasn't until I bought a shape, skin and 'parts' that I wanted to make adjustments away from everyone. Just as Guru suggested I too used to fly up very high to make those avatar changes. Then as White advised I found an apartment for $175Ls a week and make all my changes there. Plus... its nice to have a quiet place on a fairly empty SIM to sit and chat with someone. I think I spent a good part of two hours last night with only myself and another being the only two green dots on the entire mini-map.

I was in a quiet corner of a club changing for a contest. I clicked Wear on the dress I wanted to put on. The current one came off, and due to lag, I guess, i was naked, the new dress would not materialize. I tried to do thsi several times, no joy. Now people start coming into the area, and I'm stuck. Cant TP out, try to log, but SL has locked up the entire machine. I had to hit the switch on the power strip to get out. So I log back on, this is before I had a home, and I show up at a telehub, NAKED. I dove for the nearest ocean and got dressed, and immediately rented an apartment.

From: Brenda Connolly So I log back on, this is before I had a home, and I show up at a telehub, NAKED. I dove for the nearest ocean and got dressed, and immediately rented an apartment. On the beta grid, if you see a green dot that's in a watery area, might be me.. testing textures on a bra and panties set. Only time I ever feel the need to hide my changes, unless, of course, I'm changing body shapes and have to be nude. I used to dive into the water on the main grid, a lot back when I was a newb. Since I wanted a shop waaayyy back when, I broke down and bought land. And now, I have a nice skybox (it's a huge cube) for hiding all sorts of things, like the SLX/B/Meta Mart vendors and my naked body when playing with the shapes.

<wonders why Brenda was naked when only changing a dress?> If I do change after I arrive somewhere, I change by layer and wait for them to rez before going onto the next. As BO and washing/changing clothing isn't a prerequiste, I quite often remain in the same clothing.

I have a gesture which makes my avatar appear about 20m below ground level. Unless someone set teh camera into romafree mode, you can't be seen with that gesture on.

Any advice? Thanks --KC All you need is a big hollow cube. Also, if you used the cube as an attachment, rather than rezing it on the ground, then technically you are not naked, and are infact fully covered. This is what I do all the time and no one has complained in over a year of doing it. BRenda is right though, you can just drag an outfit onto yourself. However, this will remove anything that is not in the outfit folder. For example, if your prim hair, shoes, jewellery, hud attachments and even AO's are in a different folder they will be removed too. BEtter to right-click on the new outfit, click on "Add to Outfit" and then right click on the old outfit and click on "Remove Items". This can be done within the twinkling of an eye, provided your inventory is properly organised.

Find a mainland sim owned by governor linden that is pure ocean like....hyrule. TP to the center of it. Change clothes. Advantages are that it's bare ocean so your computer won't be busy loading someone else's textures, buildings, scripts, sounds, etc. It's always guaranteed to be empty because it's a bare, no script, no rez land and is a boring place to hang out. Clothes and prims seem to load faster.

I know one apartment building, has everything you need, close able blinds, lockable doors, pretty good size, 100L for 100 prims.
