It's very simple.
The guy considers that he has the right to build whatever he wants to on his land no matter what the neighbours think.
However, he doesn't consider that you have the same right - well, because...

The concept of adfarms isn't a bad one, to me it's like billboards. If people could advertise stores or new products then they could have a positive effect.

Alas the way they are executed in SL is a problem, they're big, they're ugly, they're obscene at times. Maybe there should be some planning permission restrictions on adfarms.

See my sig for a link to the Jira vote that could change everything and really screw the ad farm abusers over :-)

Or, move out to the 'burbs. Living in a sim, or subdivision if you will, that has a convenant to control such things will solve most of those problems.

To go a step farther, if ad farms take over the mainland, simple supply and demand will eventually catch up with them. If advertisers suddenly have few to advertise to, because the only things around them are other ads/ad farms, then they will pack up and find other places that will support the expense. By that time, that will likely end up in a more controlled advertising space.

said the ad-plot cutter to the neighbour just after putting a bunch of 16m² up for sale at $5k each and dropping eyesores on it.

(Not an accusation towards the person who posted it in this thread, just putting the phrase in its proper context)

they had to buy it sometime before it became an ad farm, the only way to not have neighbors that piss you off is to not have neighbors

Under the old feature proposal system I gave a proposal designed to eliminate land extortion by people like that impeach bush guy.
Somone actually spoke up against it saying it would hurt their "legitimate" advert parcels

Here was my proposal:

Zero prim allowance in a sim if you own less that 128 square meters in the sim.

It works by making it far more expensive (x8) to operate these tiny parcels, and yet doesnt hurt other types of landowners in any way.

Just came by this forum and I feel that I had to give a post ... I hate ad farms they are ugly and still cant get the sense of why they are there ... Roadside plots are great its the ad parcels that spoil it ... Come on L$2000 for a 16sq come on what are these guys trying to do ... Thats why I never divide my roadside parcels especially along the jagged edges to sell that would be like a invitation for ad parcels to be setup ... Sorry if I sound agitated here its just that I cant stand those ad parcels:(

Here is an additional suggestion. Most of these ad farms seem to advertise offworld websites, sugar DVD's and Riverbelle online casino for example.
The hyperlink to these sites has an affiliate code in it. If you e-mail these websites with that affiliate code and complain they do take notice. Even adult and gambling websites don't want spammers if that generates a volume of complaints, its just not worth the hassle...cutting off the offworld source of income would leave the ad plots high and dry.

Does anyone have a list of those URLs? We could maybe get them put on the Arbor website - this would save lots of people clicking the Ads to get the links and making it look like the ads are actually popular...
