Mature unchecked, but still reading seeing porn

Just wanted to add my 0.02L. Although this is an Adult World, I would love to be able to see ads that aren't just porn. I enjoy my fair share of porn, but it seems to be everywhere. Personally, I think it would be awesome to see people come up with their own designs to put in ads, rather then just putting in porn, but I don't see that happening anytime soon, especially since we aren't all graphic designers.

Search is broken.

You're limited to using single words, because if you're shopping for, say, "goth boots", then searching for "goth boots" misses out anything without the exact phrase "goth boots". Not "goth, shoes, boots" or anything like that.

So you search "goth" and get vampire BDSM sex escorts
you search "boots" and get blingtard hoochie stripper casinos (with mall!)

The best search? A friend who knows their stuff. Here's an actual conversation I had (not word for word)

ME: I'm looking for some boots I saw on an outfit poster in a store. Knee high lotsa buckles, hella primmy but not the Dark Eden ones
Her: Was it on an outfit in DE Designs?
ME: um.. yeah.
Her: Those are C-Tech I'll TP you.

Seriously, who needs search when your friend can not only know the boots you're talking about from a description, but ALSO the outfit you were looking at when you saw them in an unrelated store!

But yeah "-sex -escort -dancer -casino" would be a nice option to use. Like google and all them.

I quite agree, and it also adds to one's social interaction. Thanks also for the tip about boots, I'll check them out :)

If Linden Labs wants to run a porn/gambling site, why don't they just admit that it's a porn/gambling site? That way, persons like me wouldn't be wasting their time complaining about wading through pornography and gambling all the time, because we wouldn't have showed up in the first place.

You know, if Adult content really bothers you that much, perhaps you should re-evaluate why you are voluntarily participating in an adults-only game/on-line world? If I want a G-rated entertainment, I'll go to Disney. SL is supposed to be an adults-only world. Complaining that you come here and you see adult content is rather like complaining at what you see when you voluntarily walk into a magazine and newspapaer store that also clearly includes a porno shop in one corner.

Extrapolate that to RL, and you might as well commit suicide.

That's a load of crap. I'm not constantly bombarded with pornography and casinos in real life. FWIW neither am I in Second Life. But it's frequent enough to warrant making a bit of noise over it.

Actually, I feel like I am constantly bombarded with needlessly sexual content (though maybe falling short of pornographic) on television, on the radio, on the internet- about anywhere I go where something might be advertised. That may be why I don't listen to the radio, and keep my television usually parked on Cartoon Network. But that's just me.

That's a matter of degree then. My point stands. SL is not exclusively porn and gambling and to say that one can't tolerate SL because there is some porn/gambling is like saying you can't stand RL for the same reason.

The porn industry thrives on 'exposure' (no pun intended), when you actually look at the keywords used in their 'advertisements', they have a lot of unrelated words in the hope of a curious 'passerby', its the same with the internet webpages... for the most part a lot of the top search engines limit the keywords to 12.... perhaps the SL search should take a leaf outta that book?

LOL.. That 'Internet is for Porn' movie was fantastic, wasnt made in SL I dont think, which is a pity. Its ironic that 90% of porn related stuff on the internet is casted by females, yet they mostly profess to shun porn <scratches head (the top one)> :p

Women are now allowed to enjoy pornography if they wish. It's one of those liberal ideas that came along with the feminist movement. First voting, now choosing whatever reading material they wish, next then you know they'll be demanding equal pay for equal work.

I hope you turn it off before Adult Swim comes on.

Personally I have no problem with Mature content, doesn't bother me particularly if it appears in PG, HOWEVER it does need sorting becauase if you do want a non-mature object having to sift through a page full of mature content which doesn't actually bare any resemblance to what I am looking for is annoying. This is especially true of items which do have a limited number of people who make them.

Adult Swim has less sexual content than the local news.

Framing this issue as a prissy prude vs. adult non-prude stance is really unfair.

It's quite possible to be comfortable in an adult world -- with cursing and nudity and even sexual activity -- without wanting to be hit in the face with extremely explicit and close-up depictions of RL people or SL avatars engaged in sex and describing it all in the most crude and vulgar language possible.

Calling for some degree of restraint and segregation of the extremely explicit behavior is not of the same order of magnitude as getting all indignant at the sight of a female breast or hearing the word damn.

Personally, I find the PG rating absurd. If you can't handle some mild cursing or the sight of some nude bodies frolicking in their pool, then you certainly are going to have a miserable time in just about any part of the internet, virtual or otherwise.

Of the two "evils", I'd rather live with the XXX running rampant throughout SL rather than have it sanitized to the point of imbecility. But my preference, above all else, would be moderation and an avoidance of both extremes.

I just want to quote this message over because I cannot emphasise enough how much I agree with it. I am by my own admission, some sort of a sex-a-holic. Don't mind admitting it; quite happy that way; intend to carry on; wasn't abused as a kid; whatever. BUT BUT BUT a million times over, I think it is absolutely vital that those who don't want sex in their face all damn day, have their rights ot that decision upheld. I find the (very american) approach which inserts tawdry, unthinking, unerotic and ultimately tedious sex diversions into every damn search and keyword, on the net or in SL, to be exceedingly depressing. I want to see that behaviour dispensed with, and I'm extremely saddened by the fact that it would appear, due to the way US social mores promote repression and frustration, that those selling sex over there think this is an acceptable way to obtain clients.

It's not. It debases everything - not just the sex it portrays, nor the other topics whose keywords are subverted to this purpose, nor indeed the people who aren't streetwise or cynical enough to be able to ignore it. It debases E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. It is, directly and absolutely, precisely and eternally, THE moral bankruptcy of which the muslim world rightly accuses the decadent Americas. THIS IS THEIR FINEST BEST EXAMPLE of that, and the failure to fix the problem is utterly symptomatic of the short-sighted, uncaring, unempathic and frankly contemptible attitude of those who, by omission, support the shame-ographers, the sleaze-ographers, the spam-ographers.

By all means get naughty. Be sexy, be hot, watch the latest Beyonce video 'till your eyes go crossed; enjoy your sexuality for the pleasure it can bring you, and others. But thrusting bills of sale into the hands of people who do not share your agenda is stupid.

What can I do about this? I am getting really tired of it.

I was looking for a pose ball for sitting and had the mature unchecked. and it was PORN and very explicit pictures and words........how can this be reported???

Its because people lie about their keywords REALLY BAD in SL. I am with you... I hate seeing that crap all the time too. You have to spend 5 minutes just to weed through the crap. I don't get what the point is in it either... I mean if I want a escort I will type in escort. Just because I type in puppy dog and some sex shop puts puppy dog in their keywords to force feed my screen is not going to make me go hire one of their escorts any faster. Really its pointless and if anything makes it so that when I am looking for that kind of product I don't use them.

You're absolutely right.

Please vote for SVC-86 , which I just added. This is a feature suggestion that asks for things like AND and NOT to be supported by search. I will be very happy on the day that I can add "NOT camp NOT casino" on all my searches. Others can add "NOT sex" to their searches - not quite my thing.. :)

Implementing boolean queries would fix a LOT of this.

Will it ever happen? I don't think so.
