The new blog forums are not up yet so they are not leaving us in the lurch. I'm sure someone knows how to delete files at Linden Labs.

What they're trying to do is a little more complex than deleting files. They want to keep the files as an archive.

The new forums aren't up? The SLA has been up for months, and the only thing the Lindens have told us will definitely happen is these forums will be closed in favor of the blogums. They have not made any concrete promises that the structure of the blogums will change when they close these forums.

I do not expect to see any change to the structure of the blogs when they close these forums.

Has no one ever heard of a Continuity Book at LL?

I'm sure never being able to get to the archives again would suit them just fine. Do you really think they want all the negative posts in these forums to get leaked to Google?

That's why I think they should nuke everything except the content creation forums. Leave those as the valuable archive that they are and send everything else to "Linden Review" never to be seen again.

Somebody has access to it, the copyright
has been updated and that can only happen if somebody has root access and admin access.

Not really, mine says that too and I haven't run an update on it since back in 2009. VBulletin is also no longer owned by Jelsoft, they were bought out by somebody (who is apparently working at wrecking the best forum software on the market.) The notice on the most recent version of VBulletin is "Copyright © 2010 vBulletin Solutions, Inc. All rights reserved."

I wish it were so easy....

simply change the cname listing and redirect to a static page, or redirect the local virtual host to the same. then walk over to the machine, turn it off.

oh no where's the machine?
check the internal ip redirect table, identify the machine, and walk over to it.

oh no, the login for the machine is lost?
rip out the hard drive(s), install it/them on another machine, search and recover

oh no it's encrypted to the old OS?
try password recover, or run linux over top of it and run recovery.

oh no, but it's hardware encrypted? (as if LL would go to such lengths)
wipe it out, sell it for spare parts, tell your customers you lost it.

Reminds me of an epic failure at my work, we have the account servers spread out over 3 or 4 datacentra. those datacentra are in a bomb proof bunker so need a lot of cooling.
one of the datacentra had a mailfunctioning AC so they ordered a new one and tought they could just unplug the old one and plug in the new one before the servers would crumble under overheating.

In that case it was a matter of the instalation technici that installed the original AC not being around no more so they did not know how tight the capicity was, as a result 1/3th of the department of about 10000 people could nolonger log in or access they home drive when the server was up long enough to log in. good thing it's goverment so not much work got delayed *grin*
