Apparently, no one currently employed at LL knows the admin password for the forums.secondlife.com server, so they cannot disable logins or posts! The only person who knew the password had left employment over 2 years ago.

Ever wondered why they could not upgrade to a newer vB version :p? How about pulling the plug from that 486 PC that hosts the forums? Also saves them a lot of trouble of making it available as archive...

I think they just want to integrate with the Jive SBS software.

It is said that they didn't want to have to customize the vBulletin software in-house, but I suspect that if you looked around you could out-source that customization, so I don't think that explanation really holds any water.

Well, that is the other problem - they're not sure where the server (PC) is located!

This happens all the time in RL IT...

if it were true it would simply be an excuse to turn them off instead of making them read only.

If that's true, that is some really f'in hilarious sh*t.

And VBulletin under new ownership (reportedly unpleasant new ownership at that) so help from that side is going to be difficult. I do know there are ways of unlocking your forum if you lock yourself out.

This is like Weekend at Bernie's. Only the server in question is keeping a low profile so as not to draw suspicion. Like running a few out-of-the-way Openspace regions as a disguise.

Oh I love that film, especially when they are cruising along in the boat and keep hearing that "Bonk......Bonk......Bonk......" sound.

I have lost count how many times at different jobs I or a coworker tries to find where a server is physically at. Or who is responsible for a random undocumented server.

Maybe LL paid Cristiano $100,000,000 for it? :p

We know that when they bought XStreet, they bought up and killed the competition. Unfortunately, in both examples, the competition was much better.

oh rubbish. you can just use the "I forgot my password" button to get it fixed, and if that goes to an email address you can't get to then you can edit the database and change the email address.
