My Alts have very little in their inventories, the effect of that is they TP and rez very quickly, when they log out no crash report window, everything about using SL is much sweeter and quicker... lessoned learnt.

Hmm, that is good to know, though some say it shouldn't make much difference. But I suspect it does, and your experience with alts convinces me.

I've always liked packing lean & light anyway, and I already KNOW that I'll really never ever wear/use/look at most of those freebies (too much makeup, wrong colors or style for me, too many prims for usability etc), so I think I'll make a goal of cutting 500 items a day, till I either get under 1K or its starts hurting too much to throw the next item away ...

Good topic.

Managing inventories is hard work. I handle it the same
way I do the thousands upon thousands of files
I have on my hard drives and servers: logical, intuitive,
and meaningful and directory (folder) and filenames.
Scientific taxonomy.

I'm just under 7000 items right now. I could easily live without
half of that...but after seeing average counts here I feel a lot
better about hanging on to stuff I don't need and will probably
never use... =)

Yep, Bilbo just under 3k, my alt just over. Lots of logically named folders and a *favs* folder with most regular landmarks and accessories, so it's near the top and a quick click away :)

Almost 3 years here and still at around 8k. And I thought that was rather high, that is till I saw some of the other totals, WOW

I've been hovering around 5k for a while...but I have to toss out a warning about storage boxes. I know most will say they have never had an issue, but check those boxes once in a while. I had been tossing stuff in boxes for a long time and only recently found that many (if not most) of the stored items are now missing from the database when I try and pull them. I made the mistake of boxing each outfit and tossing it in a box (to be cleaner lol) *shrugs* Just be careful how you store things.

At one point my inventory was nearing 20k in items, boy was that fun to search in!

I just wish there were a way to "gzip" some inventory folders.

I've a large set of textures that I don't dip into that often, stuffing them in boxes is too awkward and unwieldy... and waiting for 20k items to cache every time I log in for something quick is annoying.

Hmm. Maybe someone could make a texture library bot. ;)

My main account, Ceera, has just under 13,000 items in inventory. A lot of that is my collection of building textures and archives of past building projects.

I have some alts that have very little in their inventory - didn't even bother to collect any freebies at Orientation Island, and they do log in faster and rez faster and have better frame rates.

I am usually between 2000 and 4000 items, I will be shooting for a mere 200 or 300 using storage boxes on my land to store rarely or unused items. I have started this with my weapons, and will be moving on to clothing and other items I don't use and are pointless to pack around with me. I mean why haul around furniture when you only use it at home? Or cloths you never wear for any occasion much less those you may wander into? Textures can be left where you are working right? Or how about a storage prim you can rez where you need them?

I seem to hover at around 6000 - 8000, depending on the alt. My two most frequently used accounts will sometimes get to about 10000, and I will go freaking nuts deleting anything that I haven't used in the last 30 days that I don't think I need to keep for "version control".

Can someone explain to me how storage boxes work, exactly?

I tried dragging some of my folders to the CONTENTS tab of some ornamental vases that I thought would do nice at combining storage with ornaments, and they wouldn't slide, are we limited to only loose items and no folders, or is there an item count on how many can go into a CONTENTS tab?

Or am I just doing it wrong?

No wire hangers! Er, I mean, no folders. I tend to do prims within prims to keep things tidy...pain in the ass while organizing, but very helpful when you go to get something.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I gotta say it again, be careful with this. I did this with thousands of items and have only been able to get 10% or so of it back now. Everything else is missing from database. I know I've said it alot, I just would hate to see anyone lose a lot of their clothing/furniture/whatevers from this issue.

My main has 17,000 items and my *must go shopping* alt sored from 7,000 to 10,000 yesterday with just one visit to Freebie Dungeon. Then of course my little non-clothes hog alt only has 6,000 itmes.

Oh my what a mess my main has but my shopping alt is keeping careful control by putting everything into folders as she aquires them. At least she is trying too. Mostly Formals, Silks, Bikinis and of course Heels (shoes). Then if I don't like something that I try on, I put *ugly* next to the name on the folder. After I unpack it, I also put Opened in the name of the folder and the color so that it is easy for me to find if I tp in somewhere and wind up naked. Oh my, thank goodness it wasn't PG or I would have had to rezz a box and hide under it until I could dress. *wink*

I have seen people put inventory in boxes. They rezz a box on their land and then drag the inventory items into it. At least that is the way that I have seen it. If you don't own land like me, I would imagine that you can do this on land that has build enabled then take it back into your inventory after put it in edit and name it. I personally would only do this with items that I hardly ever use.

Hiya, are those ornamental vases modifiable by you? If not, then you won't be able to add stuff to the contents. You might be safer to create an object yourself, THEN add stuff to it. :)

/me is a fashionista but I still keep it just under 5,000. I delete a lot of the clothing after a couple months and organize it nearly every day (anal).

You cant drag folders to the content tab. The way to do this is to first create a prim, then drop everything from a folder in the prim, then drop that prim in the contents tab of your vase. When you open it again, THEN you will have a folder.

I think I am headed for trouble-- near 6000 items, here about 6 weeks, hahah.

Lot's o freebie garbage, and some freebie good stuff (some from your place, Sarah Nerd, thanks... I think :) ).

I probably could get rid of all the female clothing and skins, duhhh :)

Need to take a chainsaw to whittle down my inventory (I don't really need that crappy white shirt that says "addict," now, do I :P).

My new mantra: Must remember not to take every "freebie" box I see from now on, ommmm.

A bit over 26,000 items in mine atm. *cringes*
I try and try to cut the number down, but I just can't keep it down.

;/ I blame all the talented people in SL...it's definately not my fault ;p

Just under 13,000 last I saw. :O

A lot of it is building stuff, though. I started being more ruthless, deleting display models where I know I can recreate them from originals and stuff. Also my shoe collection probably counts for a good percentage.
