I go by theme for the top level folders, so for example something like: Modern, Evening, Gorean (then subfoldered by color so yellow, red etc. then inside of that separate folders for each outfit), Prim Shoes, Hair, Lingerie, etc.

I used to be better about sorting things as I buy them but I now have a few things that are still in their box unopened.

I need to sort it all again and finally move the old outdated stuff to the trash.

I still wear the jeans I got two years ago as a gift from a friend who felt sorry for me for not having anything but noob clothes.

My standards have gotten almost ridiculously high. Good ideas done badly on a technical level don't cut it with me. In particular, there are a number of people making FW gowns who need to raise their game. I've taken to wearing evening gowns with a jacket. I don't begrudge beginners getting started but it seems that any old crap can be sold as a veil or long gown. Meanwhile, there are some dressmakers in Gor who are as good as any of the mainstream designers. A number of those mainstream designers now offer a modest gown as part of their regular line, which makes for nice choices, but also competition.

I agonize over choosing a skin and then wear the same one all the time. It is "me," and I don't change it as I do most everything else, except the makeup.

I have a hard time remembering to sort out my inventory when I get it- especially when I'm making stuff and have 15 different copies of each portion of each piece I'm making. I usually have a sit down once a week or so and sort out everything into the folders and update my sorting scheme if necessary.

I noticed this when I started to explore Gor and really couldn't justify the expense some of the current crafters in that niche are demanding for sub par work- especially when I could just find a modest formal from another genera or make my own. I think you get that in a lot of niche markets though. For all that people encourage crafters to find a niche and stick with it- the money in clothes is in general use items if you can turn out consistently high quality and volume, so niche markets tend to get folks with either low volume or low quality or good intentions and little else.

I found the perfect skin for me. I love the shading and the detailing and it just screams "Capella!" at me. Sadly there's only 4 makeups and one is in colors I can't stand. =( Sin Skins is putting more faces in the Ton Visage line rather than more makeups for the faces already there though, which makes me a very sad avie.

:) :)

Nobody will, unless you're in a PG sim. But it does seem an invitation to getting yourself molested by naked noobs with their parts hanging out...

Is not quite as dramatic as all that. Usually they just start sending me money.

Still, I've always admired the straightforward, practical approach!

Well, thank you.

As others already said, I have my clothes sorted out in folders. Something likes this:

Clothes -> Normal wear
Clothes -> Formal wear
Clothes -> Asian wear
Clothes -> Gorean (And no, I am not into Gorean. But I love some of the silks)
Clothes -> Beach & sportwear
Clothes -> Special wear (Fantasy sets and alike)
Clothes -> Sexy wear
Clothes -> Lingery & Nightwear
Clothes -> Leather wear

And there are some more folders like that.

But I have also a folder called "Clothes -> Great sets". In the folders I place screenshots of the sets I really love and add in the name of the screenshot the folder where it is store, for example: "::: B@R Rose ::: Love parade (Normal wear)".

And yes, my clothes-folder is huge :P.

ok this is funny . . i have a very intricate system . . i have to because i own about 800 outfits and play 3 different avatars on the same account lol

First thing i did was make a folder in inventory called "AAA Important" In that i put no copy items i want quick access to. These are things like anti push or various ao or huds or no copy jewelry, no copy shoes, xcited hair, no copy clothing attachments, etc And within those folder there may be even more folders for those items but used with a specific avatar.

Then we go into the Clothing Folder - i have general folders devoted to copiable items and random clothing pieces i like but havent found a use for yet. Like pants or skirts, stockings, jackets. I have an entire folder of copiable shoes and that comes in very handy when im putting together outfits.

In the same main Clothing Folder i have specific folders devoted entirely to types of outfits for specific avatars. For example one folder may be labelled "Pet's Costumes" and inside that folder would be a number of other folders with a specific costume for Pet. One costume folder may be for lets say "Pets Blue Glitter Fairy Costume" and in the folder would include the shape, skin, eyes, bald hair, actual costume and shoes. Then if i wanna change my avatars costume all i hafta do is drag the folder on, find xcited hair in my AAA folder and accessories to wear with it and im ready to go. Alot more simple and organized to do things this way especially if you have an enormous wardrobe.

One other folder i have (and im a slave to this folder) is in the main Clothing folder, i made a seperate folder called "Unsorted Outfits" anytime i buy new clothing but dont have time to sit there for 30 minutes putting an entire outfit together i just pull it into the unsorted outfits folder and come back to it later. This keeps my inventory clean enough that im not struggling to find simple things.

I type in inventory search.

"jeans"

"sweater"

and right click-wear whatever shows up. I don't really want to talk about the mess that is my inventory.

You're right about that. I should start sorting again.

This is true. I'm tempted to get into clothes making myself, but I know I'll never take the time as long as managing my group stuff has me tied up. There are a number of things I'd like to do with FW clothes that I haven't seen in SL very often, and I'll take to heart your comments about general markets.

Now to find the time!

:( *hugs*

I love my skin, the Pixel Deep skin, it's very natural looking without being too realistic.

Oh, and the difference between male and female avies' replies in this thread is pretty funny.

I strongly suspect that in RL, the only thing keeping most women from doing what we do in SL is money, and in the only thing keeping most men in SL from wearing the same t-shirt for five years straight is pressure from women, LOL.

I noticed that, too, Brenda. I know, for myself, that it's certainly true. I have found that retail therapy can be cheaper than paying a professional counselor, and retail therapy on SL is cheaper yet!!! So, I have tons of clothes, and a bunch I've made myself, so I have to keep my inventory as organized as possible. Doesn't take long for it to get out of control.

I use one folder per outfit and wear a complete folder to change my clothes. That's why clothes and body attachments with resell instead of copy perm are useless for me. Some clothing folders include different skin tones, hair styles or eye colors to better match the set.

Speaking of my female alt of course, Aleister has only 4 outfits... there's not much one can do with a male, fashion-wise. Hm... coming to think of it, social norms are quite sexist. While women are allowed to wear male clothing, 90% of all clothes on the market are not tolerated on men. Lingerie, skirts and dresses, most shoes... but it's women who complain about sexism. Odd.

I have a friend that is a big huge hunk of a man who goes around in ladies stockings, halter top and panties. Apparently not everyone into that wants to put on a female alt and wear women's clothing.

I have more than 800 outfits and many many avatars (stuff like tiny siamese kitty, tiny dragon, mid-sized dragon, etc.).

I keep the avatar specific stuff in an avatar folder. I keep my clothes in a folder I called "outfits" which is further broken down to such things as "favorite", "dance", "formal", "bondage" (slave, ponygirl, and like would go here), "country", "slutty", "sexy", and many more that I can't remember now - oh and "undertings", "swimwear" . .. more. The subfolders are mostly also broken down into more subfolders. Ooh, remembered another one - "Shoes".

This does not include the actual "Clothing" folder which I only look in when I'm looking for something like "red panties" by typing that in the search window in inventory and find some in "Clothing." My "Clothing" folder is much larger than my "Outfits" folder and includes everything free that I picked up early on that didn't make the transition to "Outfits".

Also have a "Shapes" folder (which sometimes has specific clothing for that shape - my neko stuff is with my neko shape/skin). Separate Hair folder, separate Jewels folder, separate skin folder. etc. Oh and separate "Planes Trains et al" folder which doesn't actually have a train in it. Separate Wings folder . ... sorry, trying to remember everything while I am at work.
