I haven't changed in 2+ years... unless i am making skins or clothes... that is when I send the m to the laundry, so they are clean...
On occasion I will throw on a suit when Sweet wants to dance, but my house clothes are in a folder that I can drop on my avie.
I just like the faded jeans, muscle shirt, and bare foot look...

How I get dressed

I just take all my clothes off, then I search through my inventory for something else to wear.
No one seems to mind.

I started out making folders for outfits that I could just drag and drop, but as a previous poster mentioned, the number of no copy clothes and accessories that I have now has made that clunky. I went back to the 'dresser drawer' model of having folders for shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories. Then I end up wearing the same crap every night anyway

I have a set of folders containing my main outfits, including hair style (loose, ponytail or bun) jewellery and walk AOs. I can drag these on quickly and once on I can go to my normal clothing 'wardrobe' to change one or more item if I wish.

I have folders for each of my complete "forms" (human, dragon, furry, etc.) that contains an entire outfit suitable to wear, but with clothing that will almost certainly be replaced by any other outfit I choose to wear on top of it. These folders also contain my important nocopy pieces, such as my AO, tattoo, jewelry, and my Mystitool (which isn't nocopy, but i want to keep the history stored in it all together). Then I have clothing folders suitable to be used with "add to outfit". Plus I have a few folders of assorted mix and match shirts, pants, etc.

I subdivide my folders... so that I'll have Dresses > Formal Dresses > Ethnic > India Dresses > Ethnic > China Dresses > Everyday then from there on out, I'm like Mari, I just right click and 'wear'. My shoes are all totally random, sort of like in my RL closet...

From: Colette Meiji I keep my clothes organized by type and then by designer.
I just remember what stuff might go with what.
I was never a really huge fashion plate - I love how stuff looks on other people but when I wear the same I dont think its "me"
Then how come I always catch you in my closet?

As Isablan evolved into a less traditional avatar I found the most of the clothes I had bought no longer worked for the avatar. At this point I am down to about 4 outfits and go shoeless - as a Wood Nymph should

I have folders for various types of items (shirts, pants, shoes, underwear....), subdivided into categories (dresses> long, short, vintage...).
I have special folders for outfits, when I've rounded up a particularly good combination or for things I've bought as outfits. I frequently don't add jewelry or shoes, unless I think I won't remember which ones I use with that look. If I've put together an outfit for a theme night at work, I stick it in a special sub-folder of my work folder.
Finally, I have a special folder in my clothing for looks that change the shape/skin of my avatar, like my little magpie. This shape-change folder includes a subfolder labeled "Back to Human" with my usual shape, skin, eyes, bald cap and a prim wig and change of clothes.
In order to avoid those awkward naked-in-public moments when "replace outfit" gets stuck, a trick I was given as a newbie was to use "add to outfit," and then go back and remove the bits that belong to the old look. I only ever use "replace outfit" now when I'm changing avatars completely.

No one seems to mind. Nobody will, unless you're in a PG sim. But it does seem an invitation to getting yourself molested by naked noobs with their parts hanging out... Still, I've always admired the straightforward, practical approach!

I just dump everything into the "Clothes" folder. I'm completely unorganized.

One of the first things I've found out over the months is that you will change your Inventory folder system more than once. When I first got into Second Life, I think I must have picked up at least half of the available freebies! My Inventory folders list got to be long and difficult to use. I spent over 2 weeks trying on every item of clothing and deleting like mad. This also included my purchased clothing and accessories. I have moved all of my best clothing into the Clothing Folder for faster access and to shorten my line of Inventory folders. I prefer to list Designer clothes by Name like, Dellyescious Wear Outfits with sub-folders titled Garnet dress, Blue Sea Sundress & Hat. Each sub-folder is followed by the conditions, whether it is (No Copy and so on). I don't bother putting shoes with each outfit since I can change my mind as to wear the suede pumps or sandals. I do like having the sub-folders with a descriptive title like Free Pants Outfits, Shoes-Free or Shoes(No Copy, No Transfer).

I sort them into folders depending on shirts, trousers etc. I'm a bloke, so I don't have 'outfits', I have clothes. Unless you count costumes. I do have a suit though, for occasions. A good one too, from Blaze.
Despite having spent a good few thou $l on clothes, I'm usually to be found in jeans and a t-shirt I found in freebie boxs. (most designers jeans are shit, I just want some plain old Levis)

I use one folder per outfit and wear a complete folder to change my clothes. That's why clothes and body attachments with resell instead of copy perm are useless for me. Some clothing folders include different skin tones, hair styles or eye colors to better match the set.
Speaking of my female alt of course, Aleister has only 4 outfits... there's not much one can do with a male, fashion-wise. Hm... coming to think of it, social norms are quite sexist. While women are allowed to wear male clothing, 90% of all clothes on the market are not tolerated on men. Lingerie, skirts and dresses, most shoes... but it's women who complain about sexism. Odd.

I usually wear the same thing, so I never bother organising my folders. Only if I can find a free Kilt somewhere!

I see where it said some haven't changed their clothes and in years.
Real Life imitating Second Life? Or is it vice-versa?
In a fighting game where you wear armor, wearing the same thing might be acceptable and even then you still should change. But in a game that imitates rl you can't do this and expect to actually blend in with the rest. Even newbies change their clothes. There are so many places where you can find free clothing nowadays.

How do I get dressed? Well let's see how I normally do it. The first thing I do is wear my 'quick change' folder which contains my shape, my skin, my eyes, and my hair, a shirt, pants and shoes. This is useful for when you have those ruth moments or when all your attachments go to your butt. Once I'm in my default look, I go to my hair folder and pick a new hair, shoe folder to pick new shoes, underwear folder for undies, attachment folder for jewelry, manicure folder for finger and toe nails, and finally the dresses folder which contains all the dresses, pants, shirts, etc sorted by designer. I rarely change my skin, eyes or shape.
Yes kind of a long process but I think I end up going through all my clothes more often than if I just had several wardrobes planned out.

I have my clothes sorted by type. Pants & Shirt outfits, jeans, dresses, shoes, boots, accessories (which include sunglasses, tatoos, etc.), Jewelry and then body parts subdivided into shapes, skins, hair, eyes, and extras, like Lights for my avatar. I then have things in boxes under each category. I know I run the risk of things missing from database after they're in boxes for some time, but I've only lost one flexi skirt to this so far, so I can live with that, and it saves on my inventory space. I like to try and keep my inventory under 3000 items, most of which are clothes, shoes & hair. I change my hair often and have tons of styles from my favorite hair maker. That is definitely my biggest accessory. I've never tried the "change outfit" way of doing folders that others have talked about.....might have to try that one and see if it simplifies things.

My closet is pretty small compared to some of the monsters out there.
I have hair/eyes/skins in the body parts folder sorted. Skins by tone, hair by shade- with styles in their own piles under each heading ex: Body Parts -> Hair -> Hair Brunette -> Diversity Dawn -> (each separate brunette piece of tat style). Eyes I just pile in since I have so few I'll actually wear.
Clothing, on the other hand... I usually sort by designers or designers collection... so I have a (PixelDolls) Tops folder and a (PixelDolls) Marzipan folder.... I also have generic folders for anything that comes from a designer I don't often frequent or can't identify... and a folder for veils, a folder for cloaks, a folder for neko ears, a folder for Eolande's hair accessories, a folder for jewelry.
And I dress by picking through the "closet" and finding stuff that I feel like wearing. I have a good memory for what's in the closet so I just go fishing through until I find it. I almost never wear the same outfit twice (although I wear the same pieces over and over), so making outfits would just be silly. I'm usually looking for something that matches especially well with some accessory or suits a specific mood... like right now my whole outfit from hair to skin to eyes to clothes is set up to match the cheetah neko ears I got yesterday. Yesterday I was matching a new piece of jewelry I was designing and working on the ad for. Tomorrow who knows! =D

i do both systems. i have folders for hair, accessories, essential attachments, shoes, pants, etc. since most of my clothing is copyable, i also assemble outfits. then there are bought outfits that are no copy and kept separate.
