Hello, hello:

I'm finished, I think, with the first really solid revamp of my "newbie kit". If anyone wants to review/vet/pick it apart, IM me or comment and I'll send you a copy in world.

I'm looking for a review of the content, usefulness and presentation etc.

Thanks in advance to any and all who wish to lend me their eagle eyes and discerning brains!

Cheers.

Avatars have no brains, discerning or otherwise...I'd be willing to lend you my eyes, though. ;)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

i'll be happy to:-))

question: is the idea that this is going to be freely distributed to new arrivals from anywhere in particular? i seem to meet new people quite regularly and happily spend my time throwing advice and stuff around, but it would be great if i could also point them to where they might find the kit :-))

I'd like to maintain the kit and then distribute it to anyone who wishes the updates. I'll have (1) a boxed version that can be clicked on and taken and (2) a folder version that one can just drag over to a new resident (via profile or directly) to put it right into their inventory.

So I'll also be maintaining a list of people who'd like to have the latest version at all times. I'll also be making it available on SLX and in my own little teeny curio shop.

Thanks, all. I'll send this out to you shortly!

Fabulous! Feel free to use anything in my kit that is synonymous with your own. I'd love a copy of yours too if that's okay! The more info sharing, the better!

I'm interested in seeing any newbie kit I can get my hands on.

I've always thought the beginning experience of SL was a lot like a harried version of a visit to the old Ellis Island for immigrants, back in the day.

But, instead of a warm, tingly feeling...you get sent out to the wilderness with a hearty slap on the back...and all you have to your name is a freakin' torch, a wig or two and a walk that makes you look like you just stepped off the short bus.

Hello, all.

I sent folders to everyone who asked and heard back from a couple of you -- thank you so much. In case my inventory sending didn't go through, I thought I'd bump this to see if anyone still wants to review a kit.

Also, if I've sent one to someone who has a kit of their own, I'd still love a copy of yours too. Thanks!

Hugs to all.

I'd really like to have a copy of your kit...I spend a lot of time on Help Island and it would be great to have that..also..have you thought about giving a copy to the Library to hand out? They get a lot of people there who are clueless and come for answers..also, Manpower has a great tutorial area and could probably use your kit...

Thanks!!

Send the kit to my in world -

Thanks, Amalia. Will do.

And if anyone wishes just a final version to hand out etc., also let me know and I'll send you the final version (although it will constantly be updated) when finished. I know not everyone wants to beta test ;-)

Cheers.

If you would like us to hand some out, I'd be happy to do that for you, too. I meet a lot of newbies and give them advice, but to have something concrete to hand them other than the "newbie" stuff I've saved in my inventory would be great and a big help to them, I think. When I first started, if it wasn't for the fact that my husband had already been playing for a few months, I would have been absolutely lost and would probably have given up in pure frustration!

youre probably in the best position to judge it. after a year in game its easy to forget what a noob may need. some things a person can just take for granted after a while.

Thank-you for the newbie guide (informative, helpful; love my hair - thanks for including that information about free quality hair :)).

Possible additions:
I received two folders from a fella that kept changing avatars every two seconds that were a great help in learning about SL and deciding to stay longer. Both folders contained landmarks. One was called "Clubs", and the other was called "Nice Places" (which, oddly enough, also included some clubs). A folder of "nice places" might be a nice addition to the newbie guide - something in addition to the freebie LM ones (do not recall if Sarah Nerd's freebie place is among the LM's included in the newbie guide - if not I'd also include it - much better than the other two freebie places I visited; didn't like one because it was just boxes with hover text without any idea what was in the boxes and the other one had some interesting freebies, but didn't know what to do with them).

I would include Greenies and those LM's included in the main notecard in a "nice places" folder. Loved the tea house, neko shrine, giant house sim (Greenies), and seeing the "nice places" greatly impressed me after all that time stuck in "welcome areas" with nude men running around with giant erect fake looking attachments (since then I went to one place where the men were also nude, and had visible attachments, but the attachments matched their skin and shape and were not erect - greatly impressed with their restraint; and I have no idea why I'm adding this part). I would also include a LM to "The Pond". First major sim I visited and the one where people were very helpful, so I am probably biased.

The above is just something I thought of as I was running around this forum and saw this thread. I will need to get back in world to think more about specific comments on the newbie kit.

I'd definitely include a 'workspace buster' or some sort opf raised platform, or a link to where you can find one. So many newbies struggle finding a place to get dressed before they realise you can change without embarassment.

And they can use it to build later on!

As a mentor any improved kit makes my job easier so I'd love to take a look if you'd like to send me one at your earliest convenience.

One of my first recommendations is for people to get the free (1 L$) version of MystiTool, which comes with a load of useful tools, including a sky platform rezzer. The pay version has even more features for a price far below any other comparable set of tools.

Hi Lucrezia,

I too would like a copy to help give you some feedback.
In fact if when you are happy with the kit you would give me a copy/transfer version I will help distribute it for you.

I also know some friends who help new people and who also be happy to give them the kit.

Of course if you prefer to allow the kit to be obtained only from a central place then I quite understand also.

Regards

This thing is EXTENSIVE...at least three layers of notecards deep in places.

I'm still wading through it...SL is very nasty today, lag and crashes everywhere...but it looks great so far.
