Within each folder, I rename items where possible, putting the primary color first, then a description, then the maker. "Red shiny pumps - Tesla"

I do lots of things the same as you but you've got some other cool ideas in there as well. Consider them stolen. :)

OMG I'm not that organised, but I have a few subfolders and find stuff easily enough.

I am shocked that people have 55k in their inventory, I only have 3500.

I am surprised LL don't introduce a cap on inventory.

Always amazes me too...3500 is my "target number" for inventory. It got a tad over 5K after the Halloween/Thanksgiving hunts and all the freebie offers I get in groups, but have it whittled back in the high 4,000 range and still working.

One of my favorite tips: After you purchase something, if it comes in a folder, IMMEDIATELY scan the notecard that came with it and can usually toss it, same with lm unless you need to keep it, then put the item in its appropriate inventory folder at that time.

This saves me time doing this later as well as the "Oh! I totally forgot I purchased that!!" syndrome. ;)

This is for all who have massive bloated inventories - mostly full of clothing. How do you organize your folders? How do you find things quickly?

I put everything into my clothing folder with the following names:

Dresses
Gowns
Lingerie
Sexy Lingerie
Shoes
Jewelry
Shapes/Skins
Misc.

Since I also run RLV, I have a series of sexy & naughty outfits that can be forced onto me by anyone :-)

but i dont organise my to sort folder cos something usully only stays in there for around an hour until i get home from wherever I am shoppping so i can try it on, edit prims as needed and sort in the the revelant folder, by clothing style, style, fit and colour of course.

*giggles* im not just a virgo but a bit OCD too
Well, my 'to sort' folder has a few thousand items in it, so I keep it a tiny bit organized, but at a larger scale - clothes, shoes, hair, misc - but no sub breakdown on those.

LOL - more than happy to share ideas.

Anytime a sub-folder gets so that it is more than 2 inventory screens long, with the inventory window as tall as it will go, then I try to come up with another sub-division. Some of my dress categories are going to have to get sub-divided again real soon - especially ballgowns and medieval gowns.

Obviously you're not doing the PoE hunt then. My inventory is already threatening to leave me and I've only opened maybe 10% of the globes.

And yes, its getting opened, put into the correct subfolder in my "To check out" folder, then tried on, put into a "keepers" folder or deleted, then it will be moved to the relevant folder.

There's Virgo, then OCD and then there is totally *cough* retentive...which I probably am =)

My inventory was well organized in April, I think. *facepalm*

Body Parts have subfolders for hair, skins, eyes, lashes, manicure/pedicure, but nothing for shapes yet. I better do it. Under Hair, it's arranged after name of hairshop, ETD is the biggest I think. Those I have just 1-3 hairs from, aren't put in folders, so my hair fill the whole screen when opened.
Same with skins - I pick up so many free skns that's too good to trash. They are partly in xstra skins, and partly just filling up the Body Parts folder.

Clothes have subfolders for both cathegory and name of brand. I started with just cathegory. Then I got so many items from the Last Call sale that I put them in a folder. The same with other designers.
I discovered appearance>make outfit just a few months ago. I make many mixed outfits and save them, renaming them so I shall remember what they are for. Sadly, some of them are worn just 1-2 times because I get new favourites all the time...
But it's very easy when I need to change fast, I just drop the folder on me. I have both clothing, skin, hair, shoes and AO in those Outfit folders, so I won't waste time finding stuff that match.

I have the rest in folders named Acessories, Lingerie, Boots, Shoes, Sandals/flats, Costumes, Gor, Weapons/meters, and I really need to make more folders/subfolders.

The last 6 months has been a struggle to try to keep some order.... and I'm not winning :( I have so much floating outside the folders. I should hire a secretary to clean it up for me, but that would be a violation of the TOS, lol. I would have to give her my password so she could sit a whole day when I'm at work RL, sorting and making folders... oooh what a dream that would be! But it's just a dream...

In SL inventory can be a game itself!

After 2 years I've worked out a system that works well for me. Thats a master folder for everything relateted to my AV, named

(! ME)
Within (! ME) I have sub floders:
! new items to be placed
! Outfits complete
! Outfits not complete
! Top Designers
Armidi
Awesome
Boa
Indyra
And so on...
! Neko
! Shoes & boots
! Jewelery HUDS & Attachments
Jewelery
HUDS
Attachments
! Tops
! Bottoms
! Shapes Skins Tats
Shapes
Skins
Tats
! Hair

Those sub folders are fill with the folders of the items or in some cases like (Shapes Skins Tats) more sub floders fill with the item folders.

So its a direct seach path to whatever you are looking for. All new items go from recent to ! new items to be placed, until I have the time to file them.

I had a system but it's become overwhelmed by volume. Everything is pretty much in the folders it came in from the store, labeled by maker name and a brief description of what the outfit is. Stuff that friends have randomly given me is in a folder I've been meaning to sort for two years that's named "ZOMG MOAR CLOTHES".

In Soviet Second Life, inventory organizes YOU.

I have like 1400 items, and I know what maybe 300 even are...

What I do is rename stuff as soon as I get it and maybe another note so when I search for itI can find it.

Like a pair of shoes that WAS labeled something like *Freddie Fetish's hoochie outlet sky rockets* or whatever ridiculous name, I would probably rename it "Strappy sandals black shoes"

I mean this is just an example but really I re-name to something distinct and later in the search I can easily find it. I don't worry too much about what folders contain what cause I have learned after a couple weeks that it is a losing battle to try to keep it organised. That and some items don't copy so I just find and use stuff as I need it

Even my alts have at last 3000 items. I am at 17000 in Marianne, and I bet I have deleted over 20000. In 16 months!

hahahhaha well you would think I missed a 0, thing is, I started with like 1100 and have acquired about 300.
I have been on SL but 3 or 4 weeks so I have not had time to gain 5 figures of stuff.
in RL and on the web I am not a pack rat, if I don't use stuff it is gone.
Yeah I just rename, I don't organise, I tried to organise but it is a losing battle and one little slip during organising seems to send everything into a tailspin.

I am guessing an "alt" means "alternate account"? I have but the one - moiselleerin.

OH my god why is the inventory system so akward on SL? That seems to be one of the big complaints about SL.

I made a folder that says All hair, Pants, Shoes etc. I'm really good at remembering what is what so I don't subdivide beyond that.

Organizing stuff. Hmm, interesting concept, in a purely imaginary, hypothetical, not really gonna happen kind of way.

I'm way behind in this too! I'm getting to soon hopefully but right now I have:

Shoes/Boots
Jewelry
Pants/Jeans
Skirts
Shirts
Gothic
Fairy
Lingiere

p.s., I also use the search a lot! For instance you can pull up a lot by typing in "jeans", "pant", bracelet", "demo", for some examples. Key search is good sometime, such as just type in "gloves".

Right click on a specific folder and select New Folder. You can even drag an existing folder into another one and it then becomes a sub-folder of that one.

A few of us were talking inworld about what this POE hunt is going to do to our inventories. I realized that with all the various holiday hunts, my inventory would likely break thru the 60k mark and I cringed. I have a lot of hair folders that I have not cleared out the colors I will never wear - did that to about a dozen styles and quickly dropped about 2k. Then, after Honey deleted her entire Demo folder, I decided that too many of mine were probably no good anymore anyway, so I also deleted the whole folder -- another 4k gone like that.

I am way too much of a pack rat

ah never thought of cleaning out the hair folders, I know there are colors I will never wear, heck there are old styles I will never wear...

I just don't have the heart to hit that delete key (it is a sickness, seriously, I am bad for it in RL too)

I keep stupid shit in both worlds....

:(

but I might try that hair idea....

been trying to organize my textures into prims, got a few hundred done so far but need to finish the script first...

still one more part to add to it for ease of use with the prim storage... then I shoudl be able to do some massive pruning with textures

my biggest problem with textures are the free ones duplicated and never cleaned up

I do know if I ever get my inventory under control I will keep it that way, organize RIGHT AWAY

I got plenty ideas, tips, suggestions, etc on how to do it, but because of my packratitus, I tend to never do what needs to be done...

(gonna log in right now and attack the hair folder see what I can reduce the inventory by just by cleaning out unused colors)

just did a quick run through (I say quick because I did not clean out dupe notecards from same hair vendors, bald wigs and such)

and just by biting the bullet and cleaning out colors I will not wear, sizes when they come in multiple sizes and hair styles I won't use

I just reduced my inventory by....

*drum roll*

2480 items

WOW!! LOL

so now I am at

33069

Next stop... footwear

I will get this under control, one section at a time!!

(and stuff that is transfer and that I think might sell will be stored in prims on the land until I can put them out for sale) thus reducing it even more!

wish me luck LOL

Oh and none of this was demos, as I delete those right away (any demo's skin, hair, shoes, clothes, etc get deleted after I try them on)

One of the easiest ways to delete a load of crapfrom your inventory is to turn on filters then delete all those notecards you will never use and LMs you will never use in those foldes you buy. If you must keep a LM dont keep them with the clothes have them in dedicated LM foldrs, so that any LM or notecard in clothing folders is deleted and any LM in other folders deleted (plus the useless notecards... just not the instruction ones)

Yep deleting hair colurs you will never use is a very good wayto rid yourself of junk, so is the deleing of any item in your inventory called object.... search object in your inventory and delete everything called only that... if you couldnt be bothered giving it a name you shouldnt keep it.

Lastly go through your snapshots folder. This can be a fun way to re live memories and a great folder to clean. Load of junk in there. Re name any snapshots your keeping, folder them up in the right folders and delete anything you dotn want

ahh I am bad for renaming things when building so deleting objects would be a big no no for me, as well as new notecard, new script, etc

but the filters is a good tip (one I do use, when I remember) heh

my problem is not organizing before hand, so deleting stuff like that is chancy (and I tend to have a jumpy mouse, which moves as I click, so deleting from a filtered situation is bad for me too) as it causes me to delete folders that I did not mean to (found that out the hard way LOL)

I recently did use filters to clean out landmarks though and got rid of a lot of duplicates

the duplicates I am bad with are the textures, as many are the same with different names, which is another reason I want to organize my textures into prims...

all in good time :)

I throw away landmarks routinely even if I know I'm going to go back to the store because otherwise the "landmarks" pulldown on the map is useless.

I really want the option of selecting what folder will be used for the landmarks pulldown.
