Yes you should advertise better!! ;) I use to wear one of your shapes until I felt confident enough to play with my own, I got lots of compliments and would wiggle my behind in response lol, I can still recall your notecard explaining how to far to move the sliders ;)

Aww, thanks!

Yes thats the key -

Whether moding a shape you buy or one you do yourself.

Save often and use only SMALL changes at a time.

Nuclear Boutique! That's the one I was thinking of! Arikinui Adria is the creator, she's got skins and shapes from RealSKIN, and her clothing is knockout.

people really dont think the best shape and skin are a based on PRICE do they?

Maybe i need an alt to sell some of my shapes for $2000L

Yes, people believe that more pricey skins and shapes are better when in fact it's not necessarily true. When new, I over paid for skin which turned out to be ashy and this was at one of the more pricey shops always being mentioned as a good oneto buy skin from.

More expensive does not mean better. It simply means you paid more and have less in your pocket.

doesn't the fact that it was "ashy" lend to the fact that maybe it was more realistic?

Speaking about shapes.....I mean....I really hope this is just the pictures that's been messed up. I wouldn't like to see those male shapes sold in a single one. http://dragonflydesignsinc.blogspot.com/

Sadly I suspect it's not...

From a personal note, if I ran into a guy who portrayed himself like that I'd quietly back away and hope not to get noticed...

But then again, my av is 5'1" and close to straight up and straight down, so I guess he wouldn't notice regardless

That's an exaggerated look to be sure, but most male shapes being sold aren't much different from that.

I spent a lot of time initially developing my body shape and facial features and adjusting it as needed to fit my personality. Then I bought my first skin recently, and it completely changed who I am.

I went from being a handsome early '20's hellbilly 'cartoon' to an average looking mid '30's Eastern European metrosexual 'doll'. My rockabilly clothes look completely ridiculous on him now.

I did save my 'toon skin, and I might go back to that socalled newbie look and hope that skin tone controls improve one day.

I offer both Mod and No Mod options for my "Bodies by Dalian" Shapes, which are reasonably priced...not too cheap, but not too expensive either. Yes, price is not neccessarily a guide to quality, I've seen several below par shapes being sold close to single skin prices. Quite absurd considering the relative amount of work involved!

With the exception of 1 or 2 models, I shy away from the "Barbie Doll" look with tiny waists and exaggerated breast sizes or the thick neck squared jawed "Marine" type male looking shapes. I figured there are enough companies providing those already.

At my "CURVES" shop, which is solely female shapes, we have heights from 5"6 to 6"8 mainly with B or C cups. With these I throw in a free CS Passport skin which might help Newbie buyers who are not able to afford expensive skins to begin with. The CS skin is not a bad looking average starter skin and quite versatile. (takes to most shapes)

People have often suggested I throw in freebie skins, particularly the one you mention.

But since I happen to know that skin was stolen and never intended to be a freebie I would never even consider it.

I would only include a freebie skin that the creator told me I could redistribute.

I have seen the free Eloh Elliott skins and actually downloaded the PSD files myself to look at. In my opinion they are very good quality, the only problem here is that a lot of people have jumped on the "Skin creation" bandwagon. What i have noticed lately is a influx of "Eloh"clone skins onto the market, I've even seen badged female Kids skins using those Eloh files. The female skin sector imo has become saturated (Free PSD's, ripped texture versions, resellers and BIAB's)

Well that skin has been around for a year now and I was not aware it was ever stolen.! It's an "understated" skin version and most likely handed out as a freebie skin, which is exactly what i'm doing. I see it as benefiting new players who don't have a 1000 L to spend on a skin.....makes no odds to me if its included in the pack or not as i don't have flashing billboards outside my shop advertising "Free Skins".

I am unaware of the Eloh statements on distribution.

I am more speaking to skins i *KNOW* weren't originally meant to be freebies - Such as Starley's CS Malibu that you mention.

I also know it most assuredly costs *Me* lost sales to competitors who do ofter skins in the purchase.

But I have corresponded with some Skin Manufacturers (including Starley) and have seen them express frustration at the situation.

I have no desire to profit off of LL's inability to protect content designer's creations.

You are just guessing

Considering she had an ENTIRE CS Passport line at the time of which that "CS Malibu" was just one variant. There were actually multiple makeup versions of that very skin for sale.

Personally I've taken on the viewpoint that anything for resale - that is +Copy +Trans is liekly to be gray at best, after being burned before Christmas.

As a result, I no longer pass anything on as 'freebies' unless the creator field reads "Kallisti Burns".

Let us remember please, that ingorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law.

I'm not aware of its history. I can't believe the "understated" CS version was ever sold. I would be very surprised indeed knowing the quality of the skins Starley produces. Not that this makes any difference but the free skin model is specified in the notecard as well as including a Landmark to Celestial City main shop. I'm sure Starley would have benefited from additional sales for her premier skins over time through those land marks.

Makes no odds to me......maybe including the "free" Eloh Elliot skins instead might be a better idea as the overall quality is better than that particular CS skin. I know for sure one can freely distribute the Eloh skins as you can see from this official Eloh website.

I think the line is "we all gotta start somewhere..."

Trust me, as a content creator, I go back and look at what I was making a year ago, compare it to what I'm making now and cringe. With this in mind I'm currently reworkign all my lines to bring the older ranges up to speed. Examples follow:

Before:
http://bp0.blogger.com/_clvWtGyYmqE/RofCkUH2_NI/AAAAAAAAABE/q8sMvpY1X2s/s1600-h/ad9_crissclick_for_free_dem.jpg

After:

Just because better products exist by the same creator, doesn't make the old stuff automatic freebie material.

 At the time that level of "understated" was pretty common on skins being sold.

The heavy shading we see on many of todays skins came about after 2005 when those skins were released.

Its good you leave a LM to her store for potential purchases. You certainly didn't steal the skin, obviously since you aren't even aware of its origins.

I spoke to Starley in 2005 about an earlier shape maker including and EARLIER stolen skin of hers that a friend had made me aware of (as well as one from Nomine and a bad rip of a Cherrybomb skin) she seemed to appreciate the heads up at the time.

I somehow doubt she changed her mind and released a full body freebie of what was at the time her premier line.

How can it be one of the better freebies and somehow inferior quality?

People who were around in 2005 know that skins in general had less shading and "crispness" they do now. Go put on an old skin and have a look.

That style came about later.

Its really obvious for those who owned older and new Nomine or Exotica

In fact Exotica was one of the first to offer heavier shading, which got even more defined then I think she decided it was TOO much and the last line was more understated.

I'm not taking exception to the quality of the original merchandise... anything but...

I'm just taking exception to the naive view that just because a designer in 2008 can and does present a seemingly better product than they did in 2005 (despite the 2005 line being "cutting edge at the time";) a third party should have the right to turn around and make the value judgement that the older product in question deserves a second life being liberally distributed as a freebie.

Hope that clears things up a little...

Ohh completely

My post wasn't disagreeing with you. It was disagreeing with Rene.

In May of 2005 I remember getting demos of the "new" Passport series when I was deciding on what skin to buy to replace my original Nomine.

I ended up going with the original Exotica at the time.

My apologies... guilty conscience coming out... ;)

TBH, what I know of improvements in hand-drawn skins over time is pretty non-existent. I still spend the majority of my time in a Second Skin Labs photoskin that I bought 14 months ago.

Not so much improvements - change in style.

The heavily shaded skins were not the style in 2005. Many places offer them now.

To the point where that malibu skin would get the label "understated". Which it wouldn't have in 05.

Thats all I meant.

Like I said before, it makes no odds to me to replace the ancient old well circulated CS passport skin as a freebie with the higher quality "Eloh Elliott" freebie Skin. Either way it does not influence the sales of my CURVES shapes as i'm not marketing it as freebie skin store!! I doubt most customers are even aware of the free skin until they open up the folder. It was genuinely to assist newbies who could not afford to spend 1k on a quality skin straight away, yet still look visually ok with their purchased Shape.
