The new Free Speerit ones are very very tintable...not just lighter or darker, but non-standard colors too. Might be worth looking at.

Myself, I am a white Hispanic in RL - that makes me "tannable" and not very rosy colored but not terribly dark either- just somewhere in between until the sun sees me. I like my incredibly pale skinned avi that is my "normal" skin choice. Although I walk about green or blue or leopard spotted at times. I never considered it a racial thing at all. I just identify with the looks I take on as I morph into different "mes".

I am Chiricahua Apache full blood..i use a darker skin for the summers and a little lighter for the winters..
there are a few beautiful Native shops in world and some beautiful art..

i think since i have been here when wearing the darker skin back in 2006 it really felt strange at first because i could go a month without seeing another and felt like i stuck out like a sore thumb..but at the same time wanted to be as close to me as i could in many ways.especially who i was by blood.. when i did finally see someone that was in a darker skin it was like we had to talk lol..
there are a lot more choices now than before with the skins..and so much more choices with the clothes for natives and other races..
i've shopped and shopped and shopped some more on a constant pace in a lot of sl and have really noticed an increase..
and i have had very few times anyone has ever given me a hard time because of being different in skin tone in sl..there are a a lot more nice people that have im'd me with compliments than hate when it came to my tones i have chosen..

and now there are some very beautiful skins and hair that i have seen on women for the african american people..such beautiful creations finally for them as well..=)

Very few African Americans? I bet even fewer Latinos too, huh? Bigwig, you must get out of what's the name of that place? The forum Hangout? Get out more and you'll see where the really "hot" and shapely females are in Latin and black clubs. That's where the salsa is.

Please! Could someone tell me to find a selection of high-quality black male skins? I have searched everywhere inworld I can find, but have only found trash and/or white skins simply made darker and a goatee added. I have found not one single black male skin I both find attractive and worth the price being charged.

Where is the Denzel Washington skin?! Where is Wesley Snipes? Conversely, have you noticed that white celebrity skins are a dime a dozen? However, I am not and do not wish to be a Brad Pitt. Ugh!

I would gladly pay a premium for a high quality black male skin. I've a couple thousand L$ awaiting some vendor smart enough to break the mold. Even custom work would be worth the price to look like I truly do have a "real" Second Life as the [primarily] black person I am.

Ricardo, I've been inworld for two years now? So where are we? I certainly don't see but a meager handful of blacks in SL. I'm not saying you are wrong, but as another black I cannot validate your assessment. I feel pretty much "alone" in SL as a black male.

I have seen some very good Afro-Carribean looking Avatars and some Asian looking ones too. The general desired look seems to be Mediterranean sandy tan - including myself, but maybe that reflects either the poplation profile of RLs or the population profile of chosen SL appearances. It's not discrimination, it's just the way things have turned out thus far but they might change.

Look up Chip Midnight in world. I am reasonably sure he has what you seek.

why is it that fat people dont use SL?
why is it that ugly people dont use SL?
why is it that so very few bald men use SL?
why is it that so very few old people use SL?
why is it that men with small kanoodies dont use SL much?
and how come only ppls with perfect teeth use SL?

Perhaps you should rephrase the question as to "why is it that fat/ugly/bald/etc. AVATARS aren't in SL", because the RL people who log on every day certainly fit one or more of those paramaters more than they match the model-quality avatars you see on the grid.

Unless you're one of those silly folks who think everyone in SL should look like their RL selves. *snicker*

there are awesome black avis out there.. male and female.. (in fact theyre popular among the rl asian crowd) i have seen Indian avis in saris... latin avis.. well they abound... all kinds of asian avis...

its like clothes .. ppl wear what they want.. some ppl match their avi with their rl, some dont...

and also like everything else .. ppl see what they want to see....

the truth (?) is out there.. heehee

Hm. Upon your suggestion, I *did* "read up (yo)" and found that post on page one of this necro'd thread. The possible reason why Ghosty didn't understand what you were referring to was because *you* had just read through the entire thread, viz:

Ghosty, like most of us, wouldn't think to read back to a post made almost a whole year ago, I guess.

First, various forms of tan are easier to see the detail. Also, with a simple taned avatar, 7you have no way of knowing if they are portraying Mediteranian, Mexican, or just and anglo in the sun.

Second, try wondering the grid about 6 hours after your normal bed time. Most US insomniacs have met a large population of asian avatars in SL.

I have been shopping for a balck skin before, but did not find one i liked. They are either too dark and look like I'm wearing "whiteface" or so light they might as well be another dark tanned anglo. I don't think it is as much to do with racism as it's just easier to draw and render a lighter skined shape. Maybe some day we will have a rounder avatar mess so that dynamic shading will actually work rather than being splashes of light and shadows across the corners of the polygons and the need to draw highlights on the skin will no longer be a hold back. I hope so at least, because I really love the look of warm lighting on the curves of the shoulers and breasts of a chocolate brown skin. Hmmm. Better stop there.

s'ok. It is correct, I didn't go back and re-read this whole necroposted thread.

At any rate, I doubt there was anything in the statistics referring to hairy-headedness, toothsomeness or pudginess. I think that may have been what led me to believe you were speaking about avatars, not people.

In any case, I don't care much about what people are, or aren't, in RL. How they present themselves in SL, that's how I refer to them. They have an ava that identifies as male, they're male. Or female. Or furry. Or a cardboard box. That's all that matters to me.
