always have wondered how they make their money. I'm guessing they take a cut of escort "income" some way or other. Or what am I missing?

Actually a lot of them "feed" on content creators, i have been more than one time lured by some of them to set up in a mall that is hidden on the side of the club. Some also have the really bad habit to disable scripts in the mall when they make events. As a result i now avoid this type of mall/clubs the same way i avoid renting in camp pits.

Ceka,

In response to your questions I did ask if there were more dance balls and like I already stated in my op I was told there were one or two but at the other side of the club, not where everyone was dancing. Besides, it didn't mattered as they weren't slow dancing balls anyway.

I did mention the club's name and I'd do it again. If they choose to open a place of business then they're open to both being praised and criticized. Why hide it?

And as I also stated in the op, it was an r&b event with consisted of slow romantic songs and we wasn't going to use a public dance ball which all it does is make you dance fast and by yourself. There should of been enough slow dance balls for an event that requires them as this one did.

As far as they maybe not wanting too many people there for whatever their reasons, then why issue so many invitations. Plus, there weren't that many people there. Like I mentioned before, there were 13 people there. Right before I tped there I checked the map of the place and saw that was the amount of people there. It was a pretty small crowd for such a heralded event.

The person who issued the invitations I believe she was both dj and hostess and is someone I know. I wasn't about to look for management since my partner and I left, we had wasted enough time there and I didn't want to waste anymore. Besides, it's not like I'll be returning there again.

my mistake .i must have overlooked the event part of your post..
and the only reason i had mentiond the part about not mentioning names was that is may fall under the TOS rules not that it is moraly wrong..i couldn't tell you how many time i would love to throw up a name hehehhe..

also i can see your point about not having enough dance balls down for and event but to look from both sides of it..they may have thought they had enough..
clubs monitor thier traffic and may have thought from past events they had enough..

again i am sorry for overlooking the part about it being an event..
if you do your seaches in the places search or the pop list you may find the more well equiped clubs for events by looking at thier traffic which shows on the right side..there are a few nice r&b clubs out there that you may take a liking to along with many others..i hope this helps in your future searches..this is by no means saying you are not familiar with the search at all..there are alot of people that look at different sections and search in many different ways..this is just the way i look for clubs and it really does help in finding the right places i am looking for..

i don't look for the places with the highest or lowest if i want to go someplace with someone but more in the 20,000 to 80,000 range..
=) enjoy ..there really are nice places out there..it's just a big world the search is so full that alot get lost in it..have a great holiday =)

I'm given to understand that Quantum is sponsored by a RL business. I think they see it as more of an advertising expense than a for-profit venture.

Other clubs usually have some slots or blackjack tables to encourage people to drop their money. Some (though not all) also rig the sploders so at least part of the payout goes to the house.

A nightclub in Second Life is a 'loss leader'. The traffic generated from the venue's events attracts retailers that rent selling space on the parcel. The retailers create the income. Some other things a successful club can do to generate funds is to set up a rental billboard system in the venue, rent out the club for special events and do product endorsements (allow retailers to sponsor events in exchange for radio promos and mention of them in event listings).

As far as the Danceball issue - since open enrollment there has been a huge influx of people at certain venues. It's best to have several options available. A interactive dancefloor (holds only 20 dancers) a Dance machine (holds another 30) and 15 couple dances scattered around. There are couple dancers you can buy now that you wear and you do not need build on at the parcel to make them work. I only have build available for vendors and staff. I got sick of removing cars and sex benches from the dancefloor.

SO it goes to reason that the elimination of the Traffic metric will reduce the number of tacky, copycat clubs

The mainland club has always been a pain in the ass to its neighbors, and the private isle clubs are just a pain in the ass, period. Large crowds are clunky. I much prefer a quieter venue with twenty or so patrons partying, and everybody gets to know each other. Ive owned a nightspot, only opened it for special events, didnt use it to make money, was just for my own amusement. The biggest hassle I recall was the griefer element. Not sure why anybody would want to hang out at some giant box with 80 frozen people in it.

Already residents have responded to Linden Lab's threat of removing traffic ratings. There are resident designed scripted traffic meters available that send the data to websites.
I know real traffic is hard to come by but those of us with legitimate event traffic have no intention of loosing traffic counting (and loosing the retailers that support our venues).

Tacky, copycat pre-fabs are a blight - especially if your on the mainland and are trying to live next to them.

I don't get out much. I go to the Velvet when my free time coincides with the gatherings there, which I guess is pretty rare given the "omg!"s I get when I do show up :D

It's a nice crowd, and good music.

I'm biased though. I built the toilet.

Our place = Chocolat on Odessa Graceful

We're not officially properly really really open yet.

We're not really a club tho we have a dance floor.

Come see us if you like cos we aren't making money and don't care if we do we just want to have fun!

I built a dinky little club on my First Land. When ever I felt the need to party for a bit, I would invite a few friends and eventually the place would flood. I never advertised and only a handful of people knew about it (I didn't even allow LMing), but it was rather popular.

It was just a handful of bland textures and low resource scripts. The trick was in how I used the little things and some creative thinking. Rather than have a place a sit and chill, there was a place to get stuck to the wall and chill.

Someone did try to talk me into using 'sploders and what-not to increase traffic, but I wasn't having it. I had plenty of folks stopping by without the usual gimmicks.

Here's an idea for y'all.

Get a robot dance animation. Spend 30 minutes making an avatar made solely out of cubes. Maybe even spend an extra 15 minutes tossing on some textures. Sell the robotish avatar right next to a poseball with the robot dance anim in it. Sell it cheap, like L$20 or so. Maybe even sell different coloured robot box avatars. I gurantee folks will have a blast and remember it. And don't forget to take pics.

Stupid and cheap, yet fun.

I'm poorly qualified to participate in this on account of having run clubs in RL and been interviewed by MTV... but if anyone had asked me, i would have said that the mark of a successful RL club is exactly what you say there; and it's also exactly what's misisng from 90% plus of SL clubs.

Yep funny enough at The Pond, people congregate around the BBQ and avoid the club like the plague, it's an Aussie thing :)

LOL Tegg!

A couple of months back, a chum and I sat on the wall outside the Three Lions all Sunday afternoon. I see now, Phil's built a bus stop bench there :)

I have been to a few clubs, if I can find the entrances. Big black box outside and then you find your way in eventually and nearly blinded by the bling and strobe lights. Also I would like a friendly club = have been in some where when I said hi, got complete silence.

I would pay an entrance fee to a good club with no dancers or escorts nor camping dancing spots nor blinding strobe lights.

Come take a look at "All That Jazz", http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ibranic/223/162/121 . Were shooting for exactly that environment. We do Jazz and slow dancing (some Salsa) that that's ALL our dance balls are. Little Bling, and our employees will say hi.
