From: Xio Jester Just curious...does the name/batlecry; "LEEROY JENKINS!" mean anything to you? No, should it? From: someone wait... Brenda was locked in a cage? Why wasn't I invited? I have a corner of one of my dungeons reserved for her, should anyone else manage this feat... Um, I mean, all griefers are bad and should be stopped. Why noy try it yourself, Lorna? After all ,the fun IS in the chase.......

From: Sy Beck Maybe the next time any of us come across a griefer we should IM them the hyperlink to this thread so that they can reflect on how pathetic 99.9% of the world thinks they are. 99% of the world being an internet forum for a slightly obscure online computer game? It's a small world after all..

From: Conan Godwin Accounts setup after August last year can only register on the forums if they have payment info on file. I can't see any griefers currently active falling into either category. Hi.

they do it because deep inside they are angry. they are too immature to channel it properly. and they think it's fun.

I used to be a griefer (using bug exploits and cheats) about 4 years ago in various Half-Life mods so I know how most of them are. Most grief just to get a rise out of you and piss you off. If you complain, they win and are probably laughing at you behind their screen. On July 19th while I was visiting my mate in Florida, I logged in using her computer and went to the Furnation mall to look around. While I was browsing an avatar vendor, a new account named Lolcow Allen popped up behind me and started pushing me. He pushed me a few inches and I turned on Movelock (MystiTool anti-push) which in turn stopped him. He then said GTFO! all the while I was ignoring him. He obviously got pissed because his plan backfired and he left right after. Apparently he was banned shortly after that because I couldn't find his name on search. Patriotic Nigras are almost the same to me. I bet most of them are closet furries and are too ashamed to admit it. Just reading their outlandish dribble makes me laugh. If they are ignored and banned without any complaining, I'm sure they will eventually get bored and move on. I could be wrong though.

This guy proved to be - how to say this kindly - ok, I have it - a compulsively antifurry, antisemitic homophobe. I really do think the guy is emotionally disturbed. Someone like this is not reachable; they are self-motivated, out of their own internal psychopathology. There's nothing to be done with them, IMO, except minimize their impact on the rest of us any which way you can.

"Griefing is a weak person's imitation of strengh."
Actually, the original quote referred to "rudeness" (Iforget who said it)

Griefers only do it for one reason.
They do it for the lulz.

From: Cozmo Yoshikawa I can tell you have a little bit of that griefer DNA in you.....
For the majority of what has been built in SL, I have no sympathy of griefer attacks. Who needs another minimall? <snip> Perhaps you are right, maybe the griefer griefs because he is pathetic and lonely, but perhaps he is pathetic and lonely because he has lost to the overhwhelming competition, or is simply sick of the bullshit. He is capable of, very easily, accumulating or writing a script and actually asserting dominance over another human being for once.(Another inherent biological drive) Until we stop being so damned competetive with one another clawing to the top of the food chain, there will always be gang members, computer hackers, schoolyard bullies, and griefers.<snip> (RANT) For those of you on this forum bitching about the infantile suicidal kiddies out there, grow up. Sometimes it takes some troubled minds to do wonderful things, and as a sufferer of many of the ailments mentioned in previous posts, I feel quite offended that once again those of us who are paralyzed by genetic abnormalities are labeled as the abnormalities of societal well being. I am helping to find exoplanets in RL. What marvelous contributions are you making to civilization?
--Evolve Snipped for brevity, not for any content related issues. A fine biological imperative excuse, however, it IS an excuse. Yes, if we had an agreed upon condition of lack of social responsibility, this might be valid, however, speaking from the american perspective, we have a belief in individual freedom that STOPS where it impacts others' freedoms...well, some of us do at least. While I do make the odd bit of cash as a designer in SL, my primary interest is one of social design: being able to make virtual things that those around me can share in - as opposed to say, building a model in a stand alone 3d program which would be MUCH easier given the tools, in SL I can build something and people can log in at their leisure to explore, or join me for a walk through without having to look over my shoulder as I take them through it on my home computer. The impact of griefing for me is akin to a stranger walking into my house and taking the pencil out of my hand while I'm drawing, or throwing turps on my canvas while I'm painting in the park. I don't exist to be entertainment for strangers. Griefers seem to come from the same place rapists do, to much the same effect: they exercise uninvited non-consensual control over another's life. I'm not pompous enough to try to apply a motive for a total stranger's actions; it is sufficent for me that they be prosecuted, and removed from the general population. Am I taking SL the game too seriously? I would be if it were simply a game, however, SL isn't a game, it's an environment. An extension of human expression: be it social, artistic, or commercial. As such, it's a mode of communication between two or more actual people. We draw lines between virtual and the flesh, however, is a phone conversation not valid simply because it's electronically reproduced? So too the "violence" of griefers invading ones, however subjective, privacy - should we shrug and simply say "Forget about it Jake - it's SL"....?
