Please everyone I don't want your theories about griefers so what I am looking for is for the griefers themselves to speak up and explain why they like to grief others. I am speaking of the the sound, spam, land, object etc griefing that some citizens love to share with others.
Are there any griefers who would like to speak up and explain their actions? I am really curious.
I repeat I want to hear from the griefers.

No real griefer is going to reply to this. That's not how they operate. Haven't you ever noticed when you IM most griefers that you get nothing but pure silence back?? They don't want to get caught in a situation where they might have to actually answer the difficult questions. Most griefers are fairly intelligent, but for the most part would much rather not get cornered.

Robert A. Heinlein posited that there are miserable people whose only aspiration is to make other around them miserable too.
He called it the "Better off dead" list.
Add to this misery anonimity and lack of physical proximity to other people, and you have a successful recipe for a griefer.
Yes, I broke your rule Susie, because even if you do get a griefer to reply here, they aren't going to really tell you why they do it (because it woul dbe too painful for them to admit), they will (as they are want to do) redirect blame it onto society, for taking the internet "too seriously", as if it were up to individuals to decide for others how they should live their lives.

Because they can, because it is their nature, and because they truly have nothing better to do with their life. I mean, really, how much fun is it to send someone a million porn textures? How fulfilling is it to manage to force people out of your way, either by forcing them to relog or by annoying the crap out of them? How sad is it if that is the most rewarding thing you can think of to do with your time?
Griefers are like the scorpion who stings the frog who is helping him cross the river on his back. It is their nature to sting, even if they drown themselves as a result. It is self destructing behaviour.
And no, even if you manage to lure a griefer to this thread, you won't be getting a real answer from them.

Griefing is really just very annoying performance art.
The griefer gets to feel all smug and superior because they successfully taunted someone into acting foolishly. It's a form of mental combat. There's no need for a reason... griefers rarely have or need reasons for griefing, though some will make up reasons to blame the victim, for extra points.
The only way to 'win' against a griefer is to sucker them into your gambit rather than falling for theirs.

Some of my favorite reasons:
1: Inbreeding. (Keep paddling, I hear banjoes) 2: Hung Like Tic-Tacs 3: Mommy and Daddy did not love them 4: Idiocy (one of my favorite) 5: Because in every large social structure you'll have a section of the population that is just crying for sterilization 6: Either the coat hanger didn't hook right or the card table wobbled.

Because their child within is still trapped in the vortex of adolescence. Probably somewhere between the roundabout and the swings on the left. That's just my opinion tho.

I think it's an attention thing, mixed with a little bit of jealousy and a whoooooole load of overwhelming sense of entitlement and low self esteem... at least for some of them.
As far as I can see, there's this attitude of "Why don't they like me? They should like me! How can they NOT like me? They must be @$$holes. Oh, they'll pay. Oh, yes... they'll pay!" and a little "Look at them, sitting there having fun... not without me they aren't!"
Then there's the spoiled brat "I'm going to push the rules to the limit, so when someone calls me on it, I get to say "What? What did I do? It doesn't say I can't do that" thing...
meh... I've been fortunate of late and haven't had to deal with any for a while, knock wood.
Maybe there's less of them?

Hopefully some griefers answer.
Maybe this should get asked on a 3rd party forum too, so griefers can admit what they are doing without giving themselves away.

No griefer will answer this because if they do, they will have to face the reason they do what they do. They are powerless and weak in RL and the only way they can feel anything approuching selfworth is by imposing their very limited power in SL over others.

I feel a lot of improvement would be made if there were no under 18s in SL.
Hopefully Lindon will hurry up in getting under 18s out.

I repeat I want to hear from the griefers. That's because they bored. Most are on free basic accounts, so they don't have much to lose. And because of it, since they don't have land and can't buy land, they usually just float around to harrass people for entertainment.

Check out this insightful thread where someone complains that no one should be allowed to ban him from their land, because he has the right to do what he wants, where he wants as a premium member: /142/12/183783/4.html

Why do griefers greif? This is not a new question and has been around almost as long as gamers could play together on the internet. I guess the simplest answer which I am sure has been given already is that like bullies, griefers want attention but not knowing how to get all they want in a positive manner they go about doing it in a negative way. To them good or bad attention means nothing its attention all the same to them.

It could also be a fear of failure.
Trying and failing to be accepted can be really humbling.
It's easier to be hated, especially if you feel like you control the reasons for it.

They probably don't understand their motives themselves. If they did, they probably would stop doing it.

Oh well maybe griefers grief because as Bela Lugosi once said, "Bad publicity is better than no publicity." I guess people need to make their mark any way they can.

Fills the downtime nicely between raids in WoW, beatings from their parents, and visits from Uncle Nancy.
