i'm actively trying to start a list of people to ban from all of our lands for just this sort of behavior.

go here http://secondlife.informe.com/viewtopic.php?t=16 and note his avatar name and wut he did. it's out of SL so i don't think you can get in trouble for listing it there. i'm going to list all the avatars i've banned from my land (only 2) and from all of my friends lands (lots more than that, i assure you), when i get time.

my husband is the creator of that website, but never really did anything with it. if it is used for this only, that is fine by us.

whatever it takes to keep stupid creepy people from bothering nice gamers. especially newbies. that's really irritating and gross.

sorry that happened. but i'd say a good rule is that if it's something that makes you unconfortable, it's probably wrong (for yo, at least) and you should flee the scene and ignore those types of people. good luck and welcome to Second Life.

Oddly enough the only "mentor" I ever came across as a noob was on Help Island - and he TP'd me to his sky box and tried to recruit me into being some sort of sex slave. It left me feeling rather disturbed and wondering whether he was a real mentor or not. I proceded to have one of the most bizarre conversations I have ever had in my life with this guy! I ended up feeling rather sorry for him actually - poor sod! He was really a rather sad sort of person.

Don't get put off SL because you have met up with an inadequate individual - it takes all sorts to make a metaverse - chalk that one up to experience and get on and enjoy your SL. Remember no one can make you do anything you don't want to do - learn all you can - you are in charge of your SL.

It was behaviour like this and the actions recounted in the OP that caused me to resign my membership in the Mentors. They had begun letting anybody in En Masse, Not checking thier BG, and Not training them and there was no Monitoring, or Disciplinary mechanisms in place. There were several nasty incidents of verified mentors griefing new people, stealing from them, organizing Harassment against groups within SL. I won't recount the Final Incident that made me resign, But Having seen that on the part of a pair of mentors, I have to say it is entirely plausible to me that the person claiming to be a mentor in the OP was indeed a member of the group.

Right now, LL has cut back many of the programs in place to help both new, and existing players. A group like the mentors IS needed. In it's early times it was an Ideal addition to SL's orientation and support systems. There IS a place for the mentors, But the group Needs to be brought back under Control.

I may be wrong, and this abuser may Not have been a mentor at all, but this incident, coupled with past performances by Real Mentors shows the need for Closer scrutiny.

Hes the one your mother warned you about!!!!!!

Naw, this guy is of course a jerk, very annoying. But he's obviously about as subtle as a piano dropping from the tenth floor on your head. Even a newborn newbie can obviously smell this rat from great distance, as she just came here to confirm her suspicion. This guy is not very good (understatement) at fooling women into trusting him, and even if he does succeed, the best 'reward' he will ever get for his efforts is to see 'Ruth' naked. Big deal. We've all seen that the first time we played around with appearance. It's pathetic. He should definitely be kicked out, because people like that give us, the people in SL, a bad rep. But dangerous? No.

The guy your mother did warn you about is the seemingly friendly guy who invests, if needed for months, in building a trusted relationship with you. Who listens to you, doesn't abuse the first piece of personal information, who understands you like nobody else. Who slowly isolates you from all those other people he convinces you are bad for you. That guy won't strike until he has all the RL information he needs about you, whether it is how and where to kidnap you and keep you as his sex slave until he discards your body, or just how to milk you for as much money as he can, leaving you bankrupt.

The guy with the horny face is annoying but essentially harmless in an online environment. It's the guy (or girl!) with the friendly face you should be careful about.

Hmm he obviously wasn't a mentor then.
Reminds me of when one of my lvl 1 WoW chars was running to the main town to collect armor & stuff mailed to him by alts. A good looking young lady Mage pulled me up and asked for my clothes item by item, "cool she's going to enchant them for me" she laughed and ran off with them :)

kinda reminds me of the time, when I was still Toy, some sleaz IM'd me: "hey baby I got 12" for ya".... so being my usual self, I copied and pasted the IM to chat and and replied... "wow, really?? well ya better spit it out before ya choke on it!! :)"

My stock response to that one is.....(prepares to be AR'd)

WOW really...if its that big then I suggest you stick it up your a** and F**k yourself

Just because someone has a tag, it doesn't mean anything. I have a custom group for myself just to make my own.

I remember meeting greeters and mentors on Help Island when I first signed up, and they were really helpful. I think the new help island looks better and probably teaches you more than the old ones did, but I miss the old setup.

if somebody asking you to get naked offends you, perhaps the real world is not a good place for your to exist, let alone the virtual world of S.L.

You will run into alot more of this before the end of your life :)

when it happens to me i just mute the a-hole but you cant let stuff like that bother you or you will be 'bothered' till the end of time.

Hi - I would laugh it off if he hadn't told me he was a mentor. The fact that I wanted to learn from a mentor was why I was slightly shocked and annoyed. Trust me - I have met some real weirdos in the real world, lol.

I'm considering building a 'point low and laugh hysterically' animation to deal with these kinds of lowlifes. ;)

A female friend of mine carries a pair of scissors. She pulls them out, the jerks tend to leave her alone. :)

Hi - I just signed up and am currently residing in Help Island. This guy told he was a mentor so I asked him to help me with the tutorials, since they were not working for me. He told me to follow him and he flew out of the island and stopped above the water - away from everyone else.

He asked me my age - 26 and then he told me to take off my clothes. I didnt think that was appropiate and asked him what does that have to do with tutorials and he said something about mbps or something - I told him I had to go for dinner and I would come back later.

Please - is this appropiate behaviour and was he a mentor? Help! It kinda upset me. I added him as a friend straight away since he said he was a mentor. Don't know what to do. It doesnt seem right.

I'm really sorry this happened to you.

I was harassed only once in SL, and it was in a combat sim by 2 griefer pigs. I know a lot of people like to brush this aside and say it's silly to be offended by harassment in SL, because there is no real danger to it, but it can certainly be a disturbing thing to go through nonetheless.

I don't want SL to be policed to heavily. I think we as residents should learn to take care of ourselves, and each other in situations like this. IM me in world, and I would be happy to teach you how to deal with people like this in the future.
