Hi - I just signed up and am currently residing in Help Island. This guy told he was a mentor so I asked him to help me with the tutorials, since they were not working for me. He told me to follow him and he flew out of the island and stopped above the water - away from everyone else.
He asked me my age - 26 and then he told me to take off my clothes. I didnt think that was appropiate and asked him what does that have to do with tutorials and he said something about mbps or something - I told him I had to go for dinner and I would come back later.
Please - is this appropiate behaviour and was he a mentor? Help! It kinda upset me. I added him as a friend straight away since he said he was a mentor. Don't know what to do. It doesnt seem right.

I am so sorry that happen. I don't know any mentors but it sounds pretty creepy. If you need help in world look me up and I will help you, you don't have to do any of that. The thing is you can't report it after the fact because when you report it takes a snapshot of the event. Truthfully even I still haven't ever reported or figured out report system other then open it up few times and if you don't do it certain time the screen changes or disappears. Remove the guy, mute him. Or make special notation of his creepy behavior in the last tab in profile, then remove the guy, I think you can mute his profile page.

You can mute people who annoy/irritate/upset you....right click on the person and click mute. You wont see anything they say. I suggest removing the person from your friends list if you dont want to speak to them also. Real life doesnt have a monopoly on arseholes, theyre everywhere...even in Second Life. Just remember for every feckwit you come across there are loads of OK ppl.

Nope, that's not expected or appropriate behavior at all.
Do you remember his name? If so, Abuse Report the jerk.
edit: d'oh.. missed the friends line.. I'd unfriend him and AR him.

Did you get his name? If so send an AR on him. Besides being a slimy Pig, he misrepresented himself as a Mentor. I think The Providers should know about that. Crap like that is far more damaging to SL happening on Help Island than all the Lesbian/Neko/Vampire/Yiffing stuff could ever be. *I mised the friends part too.* More advice: Don't be so quick to add friends. Give a calling card instead if you must. otherwise get to know someone a bit before adding them to your friends list. In a case like this, I wish you could name names. what a Jerkoff.

Was this Help Island (you hadn't gone to the mainland yet) or Public Help Island (you've gone to the mainland)... the difference is that anyone and everyone has access to Public Help Island but with Help Island only Mentors, Live-Helpers, and Lindens have access to it.
Note that a number of residents use the Welcome Areas and various help areas as places where they can prey on unsuspecting newcomers.
Based on your initial experience with our happy happy kingdom now might be a good time for you to decide whether or not to delete the SL client from your hard drive, cancel your account, and forget this whole stinking mess.

There are major creeps and generally nasty people but there are some very wonderful, creative and kind people too here. I hope one bad experience doesn't effect your entire experience.

Hm..
Actually, could this be somebody thinking that clothes were an issue? It's pretty well known that big prim attachments can do bad things to performance - maybe he thought it was similar and he pulled her out to sea to see if that helped.
Sweetsamurai, was it a sleazy come-on or do you think there's a chance he was actually trying to help?

Not sure what he'd get out of ogling that terribly lovely newbie skin, but why would he ask her age before instructing her to take off her clothes if he was just being 'helpful'?

lol - I will not be too quick to add as friends! It was in the Help Island. Loads of us couldnt find a mentor for awhile so when I found him I was too brash and excited. Oh no, one bad experience hasn't put me off! I'v made some good friends and I have just started I wasn't too sure if I should report him but I will. I went back and he was there still and he kept following me around, oh well. I'll get off the help island soon enough and then I wont have to see him again. Thanks again for responding so swiftly.

From: Ann Launay ...why would he ask her age before instructing her to take off her clothes if he was just being 'helpful'? To see if she said "16"? I'm just asking if she thinks he could have actually been trying to help. If not, see my response on the first page of this thread.

Sweetsamurai, was it a sleazy come-on or do you think there's a chance he was actually trying to help? Oh he was sleazy - I found another girl newbie who said he told her she had a nice ass. And he kept following me everywhere. I'm guessing he isn't a nice person.

Don't be afraid to leave The Island too quickly. Learn the basics and hit the road. You can pick up things as you go. That's Half the fun.

Meade, I was just saying that it didn't seem likely.
Speaking of skin (well, I was!)...sweetsamurai, I have a bunch of newbie-friendly places listed in my profile picks, once you get to the point of wanting to personalize your av a bit more. Although, with Search currently being borked, I don't know when you'll even be able to pull up my profile. Hmmm, I should really make a notecard...
