Sorry, Ann.. With all the witch hunting and wild speculation of upcoming witch hunts going on, I guess I'm a little twitchy around fingers getting pointed. Was just trying to make sure that he wasn't some misinformed newbie actually trying to help her.. From: Brenda Connolly Don't be afraid to leave The Island too quickly. Learn the basics and hit the road. You can pick up things as you go. That's Half the fun. Really.. Go thru the basics but don't worry too much about getting it all down before moving on. You've just been born and you're still in the delivery room. It may look cool but there's a lot more to see..

Sorry this happened to you SweetSamurai. He's probably not a mentor, but idiot mentors certainly exist .. mainly because the only qualification to become one is the ability to press a button. To know for sure, check the 'Groups' section of his profile and see if he's in the Second Life Mentors group. Abuse Report him anyway. If he *is* a mentor, he won't be for long .. assuming somebody at LL reads the AR . Edit: Having said all that, if it turns out he *is* a mentor, I'd be inclined to let Jeska Linden know by email. She manages the mentoring program I think.

he should have the name title of 'Second Life Mentor', if not then he was a sleaze. Unless there's a rogue SL Mentor on the loose If you need any help inworld just send me a IM. This is actually my 'Third Life' my 'Second Life' I deleted while overseas. I did over 2 years as a Mentor and almost 2 years as a Live Help and I can answer ant questions you may have

From: Brenda Connolly He he. No but a newbie wouldn't know. I didn't know worn items didn't count against prim allowances for a while myself in the beginning. Creative bastard I must say. It took me about 4 months before I figure out prim attachments didn't go toward allowance either because one time my attachment was returned I thought it was because it was the amount of prims. LOL I am not sure regular newbie skin and clothing though how that could effect anything

I am sorry it happened to you too. Someone claiming to be a "mentor" came to talk to me and told me that i wasn't rezzing properly and I looked naked the whole time I was on Help Island. I found it odd because I looked fine on my monitor (my clothes in tact). He then told me for a few Lindens, he could fix the "bug" that I had with looking naked, and then proceeded to harass me and try to "cyber" me. Luckily I just shut it off and left and gave a detailed AR to LL and his account was banned. Who knows if he is back to his old tricks with another account but I found that freaky. I think people take way too many liberties, since they can "Hide" behind an avatar and a computer screen. I would have liked to have seen him try to pull that in RL. He wouldn't have a "prim penis" anymore if I would have gotten a hold of him! Anyway, to the OP, if you feel violated or harassed, report it. And if you see me in world, come and say HI! We could go shopping together! SL gets much better than Help Island...better than I could have ever imagined

That has to be the lamest and most pathetic ploy I've ever heard. Sorry to hear that was part of your introduction to SL! Yeesh.

From: sweetsamurai Kamachi Hi - I just signed up and am currently residing in Help Island. This guy told he was a mentor so I asked him to help me with the tutorials, since they were not working for me. He told me to follow him and he flew out of the island and stopped above the water - away from everyone else.
He asked me my age - 26 and then he told me to take off my clothes. I didnt think that was appropiate and asked him what does that have to do with tutorials and he said something about mbps or something - I told him I had to go for dinner and I would come back later.
Please - is this appropiate behaviour and was he a mentor? Help! It kinda upset me. I added him as a friend straight away since he said he was a mentor. Don't know what to do. It doesnt seem right. if somebody asking you to get naked offends you, perhaps the real world is not a good place for your to exist, let alone the virtual world of S.L. You will run into alot more of this before the end of your life when it happens to me i just mute the a-hole but you cant let stuff like that bother you or you will be 'bothered' till the end of time.

I'm not sure that's an appropriate assessment of her question. I think the guy was out of line . . . whether we're talking SL or RL. He was obviously trying to take advantage of a newbie. Perhaps the real world and the world of SL would be better off without HIM??

This has hardly about a random user demanding somebody take their clothes off, but somebody possibly in an elevated position who should be following certain standards when wearing the mentor tag.

Am I the only one who thinks this guy must be really disturbed to even want to try to get a Ruth avatar naked? A standard avie with a standard skin? An avie he can see any time he pulls it out of his library to wear himself, if he is so keen on ogling that particular shape?
Trying to get an newbie sl avatar to strip naked... Someone who is too shy even to anonymously harrass living breathing girls, apparently? That is so pathetic.
To the OP: there are lots of people out there who would be happy to show you around SL without trying to see your virtual skin. Just unfriend that jerk, consider this a lesson learned, and go out and meet lots of fun people!

Oddly enough the only "mentor" I ever came across as a noob was on Help Island - and he TP'd me to his sky box and tried to recruit me into being some sort of sex slave. It left me feeling rather disturbed and wondering whether he was a real mentor or not. I proceded to have one of the most bizarre conversations I have ever had in my life with this guy! I ended up feeling rather sorry for him actually - poor sod! He was really a rather sad sort of person.
Don't get put off SL because you have met up with an inadequate individual - it takes all sorts to make a metaverse - chalk that one up to experience and get on and enjoy your SL. Remember no one can make you do anything you don't want to do - learn all you can - you are in charge of your SL.

From: sweetsamurai Kamachi do you think i should report it or just leave it? report it and mentors usually have the tag mentor over their head. Although I do go help at help island and I'm not a mentor though (applied months ago waiting..) no one actually there to help is going to do that obviously so yes report him the last place people like that should be is on the starter islands (they should not be anywhere really but they like to gravitate to the help island I guess the find it funny to see how far they are gonna get ? )

Hrm my real world response to this would be pretty dramatic and probably contain one of the following dialing 911 running like hell decking the guy depending on how freaked out i get I have never been approached in the street and asked to strip if you have I want to know this place cause I wont be going there for a holiday anytime soon In second life i would abuse report the guy and then run like hell and hope he can't find me

you can also check their profiles and see if they belong to the official sl mentor grp to see if they are legitimate

I'm considering building a 'point low and laugh hysterically' animation to deal with these kinds of lowlifes.

kinda reminds me of the time, when I was still Toy, some sleaz IM'd me: "hey baby I got 12" for ya".... so being my usual self, I copied and pasted the IM to chat and and replied... "wow, really?? well ya better spit it out before ya choke on it!! "
