I know it won't help for items already out there, but if an animator releases anything AS a freebie, maybe they could set the description (or event the name) to have at the end of it " -- free to copy and distribute" and then set the animation to "no mod" so that remains part of the name in perpetuity. That would remove doubt, wouldn't it?

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry... ...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning. |

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is what I have been looking for over this whole Eve/Copyright Infringement Issue. After digging through tons and tons of posts, opinions, and pulling my hair out with worry, finally something useful for those of use that are new creator of items and want to do it correctly. I have been in SL a very long time and collected lots of "freebie" stuff over the last few years that has full perms including animations .
This list of names will help me go over the freebies I have and destroy the ones that cannot be used in my creations that are for sale. I am a hobbyist builder and do this more for self-satisfaction then selling the items. I will be sending you another name to this thread...I can't remember the animator's name but I don't see it on the list. Again, this is a huge help! |

I guess you skipped the 'black list' animators, lol. I just bought a lil product called U Poser, I am thinking that I am going to try and make as much as I can regarding content I sell in the future. But i thought that poses and animations were hard to make, this lil product is making me think twice. Amazing really. Uuumm, if there is a "black list" of unsavory and copyright infringement animators out there some there? I would like a copy of it. |

My only concern is that if it's just kept in one of these forums, it will be buried after a few days and hard to find. I'd like to see it maintained in a way that people know it's there and can easily consult it if they are looking for it. I am so definitely NOT one to say take this sort of stuff to the appropriate forum because many- including me- would never had read this if it had been in the building forum- HOWEVER- to insure it does not get lost... take the list and what changes maybe made and a link to this thread - then post it as an answer in an appropriate sticky in the building forum- that way at least a link to it won't be lost. I did that with some Gimp tuts I have found merely thru serendipity. _____________________

Yep, there are plans afoot to make this list visible and permanent somewhere. Sticky is definitely one of the options. I didn't realize it would be such a popular concept. _____________________

Can you give some insight into why these anims are no longer for sale Darkness? Rock The 4 I listed are all family and in fact I taught all of them how to animate. ![]() The Sex business while lucrative on a small scale was also one heck of a big headache with people trying to hack our vendors for free copies, being abusive to creators because we would not sell full perms or give away our creations and also quite frankly concerns about age verification (or lack thereof). The furniture shop was never a money maker and we went on to other things. We decided to retain the full rights to our creation should we ever choose to use them again and simply pull them enitrely off the market (the businesses were never sold off). |

My inventory sanity alt account, niknak Bugaboo also sells animations.
As with my other animations (with the exception of some tinies animations I give out for free use) I never licence niknaks out. Please could you add niknak bugaboo to the list. Thanks! _____________________

Please add my name to the "Animators who never licence their stuff" list please. While the object that contain my anmations are not in widespread distribution yet, they are about to be. So if you see any of my animations in anything I did not create then it is stolen.
To answer the question before it is asked.. Most of my anmations are created to be used with one of my creations, and are very specific to that application. I do have some more general animations that I use in my furniture and even some poseballs. Some are sexual, most are quite PG though. But I wish to keep them unique to my creations in part so that I have some measure of control over how they are used. Lizz Silverstar Owner of LizzLove Creations (Yes that LizzLove from Sims2) |

Another good idea would be to post the latest version of this list with the in-world "lesser known animation vendor" list at the Hangout.

Another good idea would be to post the latest version of this list with the in-world "lesser known animation vendor" list at the Hangout. I'll signal when I feel that the stream of input has trickled dry, and version it as the June 2008 version. Then can you grab it and post it there, pls? With any luck, by that time, we'll know where it can live permanently, and you'll be able to include for people a link to any more current versions. Many thanks! _____________________

You can put my name next to Lear's, under Licensed and Freebie. Done. Should people IM you about each one, or would you like to list some that you have released as Freebie so spare yourself a free IMs? _____________________

Controversy has a way of sapping one's energies and getting a chore off topic. Creating a blacklist to me sounds like something with just the right potential to create controversy :} Prolly more time effective to stick on the positive side of this matter, non? I agree that "controversy has a way of sapping one's energy"; however, I have found it is mainly up to the residences to police and protect themselves from those who are less then scrupulous. In my humble opinion and experience, the Lindens seem to NOT take issues terribly seriously, or if they do it is months and months and months. They can't even deal with abuse/griefer reports in a timely fashion. Lacking Linden support, it is up to each of us to protect ourselves and others. I am trying to stay positive in this controversial atmosphere and do "what is right" regarding content creation since I now make a few paltry items which sometimes I end up trying to sell. But, as a person with integrity I want to do what is honest and fair. I admire the scripters, animators, texture artists, builders etc. very much. I spend several thousands of dollars each year in supporting content creators. But, if there are known issues with certain individuals that information should be shared in some fashion. If I know there are issues with a creator, then I will refuse to buy their products...I will tell a friend, who will tell a friend...who will tell a friend...just like boycotts in RL. Some work some don't but at least a message is sent. So, okay, maybe a "black list" is not the best solution. Maybe the content creators need to band together in a more organized fashion where such communication can exist and solutions offered be it in a formal blog, the forums, or private communications. I think this list extremely valuable to all of in world community. and I applaud your efforts for keeping this positive and spearheading such a list. I think we all like to offer our opinions....LOL...and boy have a lot been offered on the forums in the last few days....I know I have. But more then that, I see honest people offering ways and solutions that will benefit others. The more educational information that can be made available to people the less likely some of us will inadvertently make unintentional copyright infringement. Thanks! |

Does anyone know about the licensure on the following creator's animations?
Butcher Cassidy Joe Hannibal Indika Herbst Cid Jacob Kaboom Karlfeldt Spider Mandala Riann Maltese Chip Midnight Cristiano Midnight Mistress Midnight YadNi Monde Lost Thereian Cori Sunshine Neo Virgo Gaudeon Wu Ryltar Xevious Remo Yossarian A lot of the poses that I have seem to have are created by Fleabite Beach, Ulrika Zugzwang, Remo Yossarian and numerous others that were given away via classes held a few years ago at Teazer's Classes. If I recall, I think the Lindens were sponsoring or supplementing these classes. And, most of the freebie animations that seem to be given away, continue to have these same poses. Most seem to be Modify, Copy, Resell/Give Away with no licensure information. Are these safe to use for resell in created objects? Should the permissions be altered? I know that this thread lists Ulrika as genuine freebies. Anyone know about any of the other names? |

I would strongly suggest contacting them directly. |

A lot of them are SL Ancients, so may be in a Deep Slumber. Msg that was sent to them: "Hello, Chaz Longstaff here. Sorry to disturb. Owing to this past weekend's controversy precipitated by pirated animations, I'm attempting to help builders discern between freebie animations, animations which must be licenced, etc. The draft list is here: /327/c2/265609/1.html.
