Will it still show the ratings we earned in the past or does the whole thing disappear? I used to take pride in someone rating me.

Rumor has it there's going to be a charge now for teleporting. $L2 per region spanned. So if you teleport to some place 5 regions away, it'll cost you $L10. Not likely. Way back in the Far Past (2003-2004), we had metered P2P teleporting. It was killed and replaced with teleporting to telehubs. That was killed, and replaced by free P2P. I don't see metered P2P teleporting returning. _____________________

Pretty sure whole thing disapears this is how it reduces the database load I think While they are at it they should remove that "I want to Hire , be hired, build, explore" Nonsense section. and stop showing people's classifieds tab. Allow people to turn off their first life tab theres a whole lot of people who just say "i dont mix RL with SL" . Or "If I knew you well enough Id tell you", Or just leave it blank. I dont suppose Picks is absolutely necessary since its mainly a place to put pictures of your freinds and lovers. And Notes you could live without you could just use a notecard. Now that im thinking about this: Realistically they could remove the profile all together. Just give people the ability to IM you/ mute you / send you stuff and pay you without having any personalization. |

What a shame. I never considered ratings important in the I've-got-more-than-you kinda way (basically cos of the way they were abused early on) but it was still just a really nice way to tell someone "I appreciate what you're doing". I used the ratings as a way of encouraging new residents when I saw they'd built something nice or interesting. Now that's gone. Oh well. _____________________

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/12/removal-of-ratings-in-beta/ Bummer - I liked this feature. Anybody care to speculate on why this is a big database hit? Seems like it should just be 4 ints per resident - no more than the overhead to store the URL (even an empty one) of a users web page, a feature they just added. edit: er.. of course it's more than 4 ints - it's gotta keep track of everybody who's rated you so they can't rate you twice. Still, I'll miss this feature. So does that mean we get a refund? ![]() |

By the way, the TP charge post was a kid.. a joke.. You people will believe anything won't you. Clearly you've been reading the blog too much.
(okay, If a Linden sees this, I'm going straight to the hell grid. It was a joke! Honest!) |

(okay, If a Linden sees this, I'm going straight to the hell grid. It was a joke! Honest!) I heard they are removing all names of people who were in Douglas Adams' books and replacing their name with types of Geraniums. Actually charging 1L per teleport during peak times might reduce database load quite a bit. The question would be if it would be worth it. Landbots should of course be required to pay 1000 L per TP at all times. ![]() |

Could you please explain this? I have never heard of metered teleporting and although i have heard of telehubs i think they were before my time as im not sure what they are either. Metered teleporting is what I call the old point to point teleporting with a fee that was based on distance. It was a practical money sink back when SL had fewer than 100 sims. I don't think I ever paid more than 10 or 12 Linden to go anywhere. Now that SL has over 2000 sims, distance based fees would hit cashless noobs hard. Telehubs were a failed Linden social experiment. P2P teleporting was killed, and you could only teleport between telehubs. The Lindens seemed to believe that making us appear at specific spots on the grid would make us more social. Land in telehub sims was usually priced higher because SL merchants found those sims attractive. Eventually popular demand for free P2P teleporting killed telehubs. There are few original telehubs left in world, the most visible being the Waterhead telehub. Back to the original topic. Ratings were dead when they went from L$1 to L$25. Removing the neg ratings killed them a tiny bit more. Lowering weekly stipends for newer residents killed them a bit more. Removing ratings altogether will be no big deal. _____________________

LL has deleted my posts in the old scripting forum, along with everyone else's, put various Linden's names on my writings in the old support wiki in their current home in the knowledgebase, and now will remove the record of my ratings that other folks paid to give me.
Maybe I should get rid of my Linden balance before they decide to reduce the load on the servers by eliminating the economic system and thus eliminating the need for relaying financial transactions. This might be a good time to take a screen shot of your ratings, and record them somewhere in text form, in case they have a sentimental value to you. Perhaps someone could write a ratings-bot to record our ratings for use in resident created successors to the rating system. _____________________

Hmm ratings was probably destined for death since they bumped the price up to $25, why would you spend another $75 on someone after buying a $1000 item from them when money is tight.
An instructor teaching building & scripting can't even get $1 tip out of most students for a free class. Well perhaps we should move on from teleport seeing it like vehicles no longer works efficiently, next system, Hmm I'm suspecting beiing everywhere at once instead ![]() |

Telehubs did increase social interaction. I spoke to a guy at one once. Admittedly, all I said I think was "ugh, no, you creep" but even so!

I think I might make a T-shirt with my ratings at the time of discontinuation on.
Second thoughts, I might not bother! |

I just heard a rumor that you will have to pay $2L per hour to not be teleported from the place you are to somewhere else. My friend whose second cousin is a Lindman, which is just one step away from being a Linden, told me. |

Well if they charge for TP's, I'm going to do what I said I would do a long time ago, start a Yellow Cab company..... unless LL start a road tax scheme
.Far as ratings go, although mine are in double figures, my wife's are in the 1,000's... that equates to over 150,000+ L$'s have been spent and wasted.. I suggested on the blog a 'grandfather' right to have those ratings transfered onto the 3rd party services. FYI, she doen't build or create, the vast majority of her ratings are on apperance and behaviour. _____________________

Thats just a lil overstated If you total both of yours up, including given, the total is 4874 which if they were at L$25 each would be substantial, over L$120,000, but we all know that the vast majority were given at L$1 each so the total is likely in the L$5000 range. That being said, I'm all for it disappearing, they serve no purpose and I cringe when someone wastes L$25 or more on rating me. _____________________
