http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/12/removal-of-ratings-in-beta/Bummer - I liked this feature. Anybody care to speculate on why this is a big database hit? Seems like it should just be 4 ints per resident - no more than the overhead to store the URL (even an empty one) of a users web page, a feature they just added. edit: er.. of course it's more than 4 ints - it's gotta keep track of everybody who's rated you so they can't rate you twice. Still, I'll miss this feature.

From: someone Anybody care to speculate on why this is a big database hit? With the concurrency levels now, any database retrieval is a "big hit" aggregated over all players. This is why tool-tips on items went away (by default) and why parcel boundary visibility was relegated to a more complex key combination.

Fine. If it will improve the game performance, I'm for it. I found it to be useless.

Whatever, ever since they upped the price to $25L it pretty much is useless..however I do question them taking a way a sink. It's a small one, doesn't take much $L out of the pot, but it's still a sink...

I found it, well..mildy amusing at first but quickly lost interest in it. I don't know if it will improve game performance or not BUT if it improves only slightly I am 100% for it.

It's a small one, doesn't take much $L out of the pot, but it's still a sink... They were filling in the sink with the Supply Linden anyways, so they're kinda taking a hit on that. I really never saw the point of the rating systems after it was gamed so horribly when I first joined. People were paying others at least the cost of a vote to vote for them, because then the votes added L to your weekly stipend. It was supposed to be a reward/demerit system that helped keep users in line and also to reward those whose skills were truly praiseworthy. Needless to say it failed. I stopped paying attention to it when the biggest jerks always had the highest ratings in the 'nice' skills. So for them to disappear is not an issue for me. They stopped meaning something ages ago and now they are just a waste of bandwidth.

Rumor has it there's going to be a charge now for teleporting. $L2 per region spanned. So if you teleport to some place 5 regions away, it'll cost you $L10. From: Brenda Connolly I'm sure they will find another useless way for us to sink our quatloos.

What a shame. I never considered ratings important in the I've-got-more-than-you kinda way (basically cos of the way they were abused early on) but it was still just a really nice way to tell someone "I appreciate what you're doing".

It would be nice to get rid of the "xx has left the session"-messages too.. these messages are so annoying and most of the time of no importance.

Yes, exactly, getting rated was such a rare occurrence to me that it really meant something special. But too, I can't say I will be heartbroken over it's absence.

Where did you hear it? I doubt if its true, however. IF it were true. what would it do the griefers, most of whom are "no account info" AVs? Would it limit their ability to teleport? What about landbots? Would this increase the costs in operating landbots? What about campers? Would it limit their ability to find places to camp? Anything that negatively impacts the activities of griefers, landbots and campers would be hard to believe as those three classes of SL users seem to be among the most highly favored and coveted by LL. I would be DELIGHTED and THRILLED to pay a telporting fee IF it slowed down, hampered or made SL life more difficult for the three classes of people mentioned above. Its just too good to be true. I'll believe it when I see it.

Those lacking the means to TP would be flying everywhere - so anyone on the mianland would be in a constant fly-over zone.

I would hope we would be charged AFTER a successful TP. And not with my shoes and hair in my butt.
