"w00t" was originally an trunicated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement. ~Ulrika, oops, I mean Urban Dictionary kk is your initials. ![]() if kthx is ok thanks perhaps kk means OK OK. Urban Dictionary gives a variety of other explanations of woot. It is used in the same way as Wow! Far out! Magnificent! Out a sight! Hooray! An exclamation of joy or delight. _____________________

At first I though kk meant they WERE talking to me but no, I see it in conversations often. Doesn't make any sense to me.
As for wOOt. That don't make sense either. In fact, me staying in SL doesn't make any sense, it gets more depressing every day because of the bugs and limitations of being their "Permanent software testers". I don't have much of a real life and thought I could do something with this, but nay. _____________________

"k" or even "kay" is often used in place of "OK" and "kk" is just a variant.
"woot", or worse still, "w00t" means "I am a complete airhead". |

Apparantly, "woot" is a shortening of "wow, loot!" from hack-n-slash MMO games.

I use "woot" IRL for an expression of joy and happiness. When you start getting into "w00tz0rz!" and "ROFLcopter" - time for an SL vacation. ;> My noggin typically explodes when exposed to more than 30 seconds of 733t. Erm, I meant "leet". Now speaking K-rad, those were the days!

Sl is not worth getting depressed over if it is not what you expected. |

Woot, Woot, Woot *while pumping arm madly in the air* now this is something that always had me wondering just where it came from ... although I agree from past evidence this is indeed how it's spelt, whenever I witnessed this IRL it seemed to have a silent 'w' and 't' ? .. and I may be easy to please but ... if I get past the login inworld .. I am rarely if ever dissapointed. |

Well having been a D&D player since that games inception, the DnD explanation is just wrong. I never heard anyone use this expression in any forum until after the Everquest explosion. I have always the thought the explanation that it is somehow a leet speak abbreviation for We Own Other Team made the most sense.
It is used as an explanation of of hoy, and in some cases an expression of erotic fulfillment. I think its silly, and extraneous, as english already has plenty of expressions that say the same thing. I'm all for language evolving, but woot! is not where it needs to go. _____________________

As I understand it: "Woo Hoo!" is a Homer Simpson-ism...
and "Woot!" is an alternate/abbreviated form of it. "KK" is like saying "right right" or "sure sure", "yeah yeah" -- non-sarcastically. It's a easier to type then "mmhmm". We could probably use "mmm'kay" as well but that's more work, and just "k" seems too short. It may have had it's origins influenced by "ack" (for "Acknowledged" ![]() ![]() Unrelatedly, but for the heck of it, I'm amused at how 'spam' came about: From the meat product to Monty Python Skit to text muds... where folks would re-enact the monty python skit in text.... and swamp the server so much that it lagged... to a more general use: "spamming a server" meant sending so much useless data to it caused it to lag. to the email.. which likewise comes in such volumes that it still causes more modern and capable servers lag issues. ![]() |
