There's only a finite amount of money, and gamblers, to fill "cookie cutter" casinos and clubs... there's more than enough people to easily fill the truly impressive creative builds in SL.

When builds like the ones mentioned in this thread become the majority in Second Life, rather than sex clubs and casinos, I believe that's when we'll really see the potential here.

I'm amazed at the "I want SL to be like I think it should be, and the hell every other vision of SL."

I'm not a gambler, in RL or SL...I think camping is a waste of time too. I'm sad to see these things go...not because they brought me any joy, but because it's what many residents did for a good time here in SL.

My primary reason for being a SL is the sex industry and sex clubs. You are sadly mistaken if you don't think that I do anything else in-world. I shop and support merchants by doing so. I go to other types of entertainment venues, and socialize with friends that I have made.

I don't get excited about a lot of the things many of you value in SL, but I'd be sad to see them removed because many of you get joy from them. Just as I was sad to see the gambling go. Many people had a lot of time and money invested in gambling establishments, and I feel sad for their loss as if it were my own.

I fail to see how the past times of others can affect all of you so much. Just stay away from the activities that don't do any thing for you. You're not going to catch me at any of your hoity toity ball room dances or whatever you do! By the same token, I don't want to see your vanilla activities banned or have you suffer discrimination for participating in them.

You know, I'm really tired of voicing my OPINION and constantly getting flamed. You guys treat me like an ass on this forum.

I apologize as I assume that was (at least in part) about my comment. The intent was not to treat you personally in any belittling way. I see SL in a different way than you, and if it came across as a personal attack, then I was very clumsy and uncouth in the way I worded it. And I am sorry if I came across that way.

I don't see any cause for concern for the general population by a group of individuals getting excited about things that aren't clubs or casino's.

Broccoli

Nor do I, but from the thread title to the sarky comments all through it you've been having a go at people who don't follow your vision and there's absolutely no need for it. You've been condescending about malls to a mall owner, that's not very nice, it made me chuckle but it's not very nice.

What was wrong with just having a thread about cool places to visit?

Or the question could be "Now that I can't gamble in SL, what else is there to do?"

Thanks Brocolli for a great thread.

That Greenies house is MegaAwesome!!!! but the real question is

Why would someone spend over 5000USD a year to share that awesomeness with us?

it doesnt bring in any money, and it takes a whole island 1695 + 295 x 12

yea creative

yea neat

yea rich ppl with money to burn, thats is NOT what most of us are unfortunataly.....

yea i wanna see more 'creative cool stuff' but someone has to pay for it all

See, you prove my point. I feel like there are a handful of people that only spew negativity on these forums.

This was a lovely response. Thank you, and of course, no big deal. I WAS being a bit of a drama queen, but the truth is...I sense more negative than positive here. Maybe that's why there aren't more citizens from in-world that frequent the forums.

I haven't been to your mall so I can't comment directly on yours, but a lot of the places I do come across in Second Life are... painful to visit, to say the least.

I'm more than happy for the thread to stay on "nice places to visit in SL".

We all have different tastes... that's human nature. Mine just happen to not include clubs and casinos.

Most of the time I keep myself to myself in SL, and don't socialise much to be honest. It gets tired after a while when you keep being hit on by guys with oversize genitalia flapping about.

... and saying there's nothing to do in Second Life....

Pull up Map, and enter the region "Greenies"... up will come Greenies Rezzable Home. Teleport there - anywhere, it doesn't matter as it has a landing point set.

Follow the tunnel... into the house... and see what someone with a bit of imagination has done.

Broccoli

Oh ya. I was waitin' for weeks to get there!

Look at other places, too. The hobo village in Calleta. Victorianna Castle in Hogback. Visit Commonwealth Island and check out the geyser. Look at the cool cartoon stuff in EGO Terra, Go to Livingtree (I'm proud of it). Visit Kowloon and see what some of the asian players have created. Head to the Relay For Life sims (are they public yet?).

Finally, take a building class. Or several. There is a world waiting to be created, an you can make it! All of the above were made by other people here, using a bit of skill and tools any of us can use. Some of them include stores or other ways of providing you with cool products - an your own products may be just around the corner. Yes, you might even make the next *legal* gaming system, too, if you are so inclined, or you might innovate somethign even better.

It's a big world outside the darkness and din of the casinos. Come to the light. You won't be disappointed.

I agree. And BTW, CULT rocks. One of my favorite furniture stores, along side Maximum Minimum. This is what SL needs more of--quality designers.

Cheers. Stop by my studio sometime Fade, you'd appreciate the design.

The point I was trying to make is that it would be more effective to promote what it is you like, without calling down the interests of others. I'm not just directing that at you, many of the forum dwellers do the same thing.

If expressing your tastes were truly your aim, there would be no mention of your dislikes in your posts. Unless it's a poll or a question thread of course.

The thing many people fail to realize in SL and RL as well, is that when we push against something we give it energy. It's more effective to push energy into what makes us feel good, and keep our energy away from that which doesn't.

You might find that shedding negativity will make you all a lot happier.

This is all great, and I do agree there are some awesome, amazing builds out there. But the bottom line comes down to..if people can't afford to pay tier on their sims then they are going to disappear. I dont know too many people who can dole out 300 a month without blinking an eye..and if you start charging admission for these places the Ls have to come from somewhere. Not everyone in SL is a builder or a scriptor or a business owner. Some of us just want to come here and enjoy time with family and friends and meet new people. If all the clubs, and the Gor sims and anything that doesnt have the Disney stamp of approval on it is gone youre going to find yourself in a shrinking world..not a growing one.
Just my 2 cents.

Yes it's broken, apparently for an update but it's been broken for way too long now.
