Scorpions break up; nobody cares

Classic rock band The Scorpions indicated Monday that it is breaking up, an announcement that will come as a surprise to many who will read this and suddenly remember there was a once a band called "The Scorpions" - a group endeared to many as "that band who did that one song, I forget what it's called".

Honestly - who here can say with a straight face that they knew The Scorpions were still ALIVE, much less together as a group? The kicker is that the story actually made CNN:

Of course it made CNN, that legitimate news network, unlike Fox News. ;)

Hey, some of us are old enough to not only remember them, but to have seen them live as well.

Now...GET OFF MY LAWN! :p

I'm onto this schtick. It's just so they can have a reunion tour in a couple of years and maybe a comeback. Actually I think it's not a bad idea for an aging band to take a creative hiatus.

I understand they are /were huge in Europe. At least they rocked. Nobody does that anymore. Newer bands are too busy out-angsting each other to have any fun.

No. Didn't you read the article? They announced yesterday that they were breaking up, but they will ALSO be going on a three-year concert tour, starting now.

Don't try to figure it out; it's one of those "divide by zero" things.

Breaking up. After the last tour that will last into 2013.

OK.

Such a stunning fast breakup.

So basically they have the dignity to not look like jagger & co almost 70 year old geriatric patients on stage in embarrassing too tight clothing.

Jagger & Co can sacrifice a little dignity because they somehow manage to sell out whole towns despite doing the same 20 songs or so that they've been doing for the last hundred years. The Scorpions can't really swing that, since they have maybe three songs that anybody actually remembers. They don't really have enough laurels to rest on. They had to make this announcement just to remind people they were still around; else they wouldn't have sold any tickets.

They were much better when you had no idea what Klaus was singing.

Rock You Like A Hurricane!

My soccer team is named The Scorpions just because of this song. And yes, we will rock all comers like a hurricane.

Undefeated (still) and desperately attractive, the**** Scorpions.

Wow, that sux. I guess it is better to quit before old age makes you look inept and over the hill. I'd say Jagger fits that bill sorta... Dan Marino definately did

I have every one of their albums except for the last one, and have seen them in concert 3 different times. Despite much of their music seemingly "dated" nowdays, they still know how to rock.

I personally have seen at least 5 farewell tours from The Who. I'm not sure of the exact number, I kinda lost count.

But damn, I hope they keep 'em coming. PETE!!! :D

ok reminiscing time!

great moments with the scorpions:

the concert in hannover during the world tour in '84.
opening act was Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

everybody in the audience was hollering "joan jett! joan jett! before she started...
...but as soon as she climbed the stage everyone screamed "SCORPIONS! SCORPIONS!"

the very first scorpions concert ever was in a party tent at a fair about 20km from where i grew up

last time i saw them live on stage was maybe 3 years ago in mainz and GOD did they get old... klaus and mathias have to wear hearing aids by now, guess they just totally wrecked their hearing...

Saw them a couple of years ago, and from what I could see from backstage ( :) ) their whole set is just too rehearsed and perfect... they've just become a multi million pound business and aren't doing it for fun any more.

Besides, the news report I said was that they were announcing a 2 year world tour and a final album to end their career, so it's not like they're going to suddenly vanish.

Hey, some of us are old enough to not only remember them

Then some of us are old enough to remember them but long ago swapped out the brain storage space for more useful information. :)

I remember only "Rock you like a Hurricane," but it kinda wasn't my favorite.

As for Jagger and crew? Their record label might do better to just swap them out with equally creepy animatronics now. Unless they already have, which would explain a few things..

First concert I ever went to was the Scorpions. With Rainbow, IIRC.
