I've created the issue in JIRA... it's WEB-155. Vote for it! It's to limit blog comments to one per user.

Well, I have two other identities myself, neither of which is involved in either the Blog (seeing as how *someone* filled it up), or this resulting forum thread.
well, i've avoided any threads my alter ego has recently been involved in, and i don't remember the last time I wrote on the blog because the latest entry has always received 100 comments by the time I get there.

Edit: That's great news Oryx - thanks! :)

Funny....the poster who stated that if they didn't have a life either they would think this was funny is obviously the one who doesn't have a life since he/she is the one who is taking up up to 20% of the blog posts on almost every blog by the lindens. Maybe one who is in a glass house shouldn't throw stones, hmm?

I would rather have a moderator delete all off-topic posts from the blog-replies as they appear. I'm sick and tired of the:

"New show us your Sculpties Contest!"
reply1: "My password doesn't work"
reply2: "LOL u fool."
reply3: "Support sucks!"
reply4: "i no!!! warz my stippend?!?!!omg!"
reply5: "u feex! no nu feeturez until u feez bugz!"
reply6: "i dun no if this is teh rite place 2 post but i cant SL for > 5 min"

If I may drag us back to the single comment per blog entry issue, and I'm not sure why this didn't occur to me before, but it would be very difficult to prevent multiple comments from determined users, wouldn't it? It's very easy to create new email addresses and use open proxy servers to get around the posting limits. One solution would be to link each commenter's profile to their avatar account which is what we have here on the forums (a maximum of five avatars per person would sure beat the open-ended alternative), but I'm not sure that's possible because unlike the forums I think the blog is actually hosted and maintained by wordpress.com (ie. a different physical location making database integration difficult, impossible or too risky).

Just checked and yes it is:

To bad it will probably get ignored, but its a great idea, most people find impossible to post on the blog because "SOME" people fill it up with off topic pointless things.

I say no to one vote. I think we have done a great job in letting the person(s) involved know how we feel. They obviously have not learned. But maybe other potential greifers have been pointed in the more mature direction. As long as those of us keep these mature and avoid immature attacks even if we disagree it will police itself. Yes, there will be times but overall I enjoy the give and take. That would not be there with only one vote.

I'd rather see it used better, by LL and by us.

I won't vote for the 1-reply-per-person, not until they allow us to EDIT our posts.
Besides it'll just encourage people to post with alts. yick.

I just wish that certain people who claim to have no life would allow those of us with part of a life the chance to actually REPLY before the count of 100 has been reached.

I've been shut out enough times because I didn't check fast enough that it gets rather frustrating.... and then seeing 20 of those 100 posts all with the same name... well, seems rather unfair and selfish.

I don't comment much in blogs anymore. I read the blog post, I skim the "fix it you worthless heap of rabid parrot droppings Lindens!" comments, and I move on about my business.

It would be interesting to see stats on what user(s) show up most in peoples ignore lists on the forums. I normally don't use ignore lists on any forums, but U.M. is an exception.

I allow myself to get heated up at times, but generally I avoid flame wars and trolling, with perhaps the occasional transgression. I have not had cause to ignore anybody in these forums. Even Colette.

I don't mind the ranting and complaining that much and I wouldn't put anyone on ignore for that... only when ALL their posts are semi-decipherable and add absolutely nothing to the discussion.

I find Colette's posts normally enjoyable.

Some people never learn so even though I dont like the idea of limiting anyone to one entry there are only 100 entries allowed and for those with like no self control it will help them gain some meaning they need to get all the words off their chest in a single post instead of putting 5-10 posts in with 1 sentance each or treating it like a forum (which it isn't)

entire conversations occuring on a blob just makes no sense especially if its limited to 100 entries.

And no I dont think they got the message :)

I haven't even read the blog, but somehow I *knew* one name that would have to be involved in crapping it up with endless, unhelpful comments, and sure enough...

Friendly greetings all, thanks to those who emailed me about this — nice to see this is already in the Issue Tracker (where I spend a lot of my time nowadays); thank-you Oryx. I'll assign that issue to myself and comment further there. Your suggestions are much appreciated!

A big THANK YOU Torley! Your response here and the additional information you provided in the JIRA for issue WEB-155 should help to restore residents faith that LL really does care.
