SL celebrities?

ok so I am a bit of a fangirl.
But when I see famous people I can't help but go *wowy^^
When people build something or create something it amaze me, probably since I'm so bad at making anything =^.^=

So lets get some names - Who is out there?

Fame in SL is just like fame in RL...it's fleeting, and depends on who you're talking to. I'm famous in my circle of friends, but many haven't heard of me.

I know what you mean, but my biggest kick has been meeting peeps i talk to in here. I think there are proly a few that would elicit that "Oh wow!" response, but again- it is folks from right here- I do know who Stroker is and while I applaud his place in our world. I doubt very much we would ever move in the same circles that I would chance to meet him so I guess it is not a real big deal to me- sort of like the person who designed my car or something- great at what they do but not really celeb to me-
I tend to get all in awe over peeps I read here in the forums- not naming names so no one gets embarrassed. You gotta remember, most of these folks sit here and go - who, what, celeb me? Nah!

everyone is just a person...arent they? Wether they make cool clothes...or shoes...or hair...or whatever..im not overly enthused by meeting them..but admire their *talent* and usually buy it

i`ll treat each and every one the same as i`d treat a newbie (wich doesn`t insist on intruding and being an ass...) and not spare them my bad sarcastic jokes, i`d tell them that they made great stuff tho but as a compliment and not sucking up

SL's very interesting - everyone seems to have their own opinions of who the "celebrities" are, and those opinions reflect all kinds of differing views on what's most important about the world.

For example, I'd instantly name Tateru Nino (NCI / Massively) and Prokofy Neva (Second Thoughts), but I know lots of people haven't heard of them. But then again, I was utterly shocked to find that many new users now haven't heard of Anshe Chung (Dreamland) - not so long ago, that would be nearly impossible, but now it's not uncommon.

And, one time, I was chatting on a Scripters group about some odd behaviour I was seeing with an omega script, and as a result Amethyst Rosencrantz (Amethyst collar) teleported over to NCI to see the example script - and about five people ran up and started idolising (one of them even said "Amethyst?? HERE??". Which I guess was kind of jarring because at that time, she chatted often on the Scripters and Concierge groups, and was just one of the gals/guys there

But then again, I was once invited over to someone's sim to see how they'd deployed the BijoCam, and just as I turned around from exploring their example area, next to me were Timeless Prototype, Pierce Portocarro and Hiro Pendragon. This was a complete "OH MY GOD!!" moment for me, but when I mentioned it to a friend in IM, their reaction was "... Who?"

I agree that most people out there only know what they come by.
Hard to say what person everyone knows, but I do consider my list to contain people where most people have been in contact with their products.
Either buying a sexgen, a sine dane, a lapdance chair and so on ^_^

I dont know any of the outgame bloggers, so can't name any.
Amethyst is a good one to add to the list, of those around out there.
I do have one of the collars Miiaoow =^.^=

This can quickly turn into a list of everybody's favorite designers (which may be a fair enough way of determining celebrities, really, and there are certainly people who deserve a nod).
But I'd say that "SL celebrities" are those who have really changed something in the landscape of SL; a name you recognize for more than having made some wares you like.

I'm tempted to go with the "no-one named, no-one forgotten" principle, but just off the top of my head, I'd mention names like
Starax Statosky/Light Waves, for his inspiring artistic expression in SL.
Strife Onizuka, for being a very active community support, and a prime source for a *lot* of knowledge about the LSL language.
Anshe Chung is probably the definition of an SL celebrity, like it or not.
Sarah Nerd, for the sheer amount of times her name comes up, with positive connotations.
Nicholaz "The Mad Patcher" Beresford, for his improvements to the SL viewer.
Desmond Shang, for building the very well-known brand and community of Caledon, which I'd say go well beyond just a product.

There are many more (some of whom have already been mentioned), but this is just an example of the type of people I'd consider "celebrities" in the SL sphere.

And as for them being "just a person"... More than once, back in the days as a wide-eyed newbie, I have chatted with people I only later realized was a "big name", and every now and them, circumstances happen which have me chatting with people I now know to be "big names", and y'know... they actually *are* persons.

I'm with Amaranthim. I'm more apt to feel like I've met a celebrity if I see someone from the forums in world. However, there are a few big time creators that inspire me to awe.

Hehe are there any slebrity blogs out there? I'd love to see some sl papparazzi pics.

I'd say Philip Linden, M Linden and Torley Linden have a special place on that list though. Plus Cory Linden for the tech types, Lexie and Blue for the volunteers, and Jeska Linden for the forum oldbies.

And, as for innocently meeting people, as a newbie I was helped out by Simone Stern without realizing anything. But she, as with people like Ameshin Yossarian, seem to be a lot quieter these days..

Never met Tuna- but seconds as someone who has made great contribution to SL.

I think that meeting with some of the people here or across the street has left me feeling like I met a celebrity. But these forums attract people who really have made an impact in SL, so maybe they are celebrities.

we all try to contribute whatever we can. I don't know, with the size of the grid and the diversity in the community if anyone can truly be a celebrity. One person's celebrity is another person's stranger.

Plus, once you get to know someone, they aren't so much of a celebrity as they are another person who you like to hang out with or have good conversation with.

Like with the Death of Dale Earnhardt Sr.... Some said he was a Hero.. Others did not..

To each his own.. And I know we have some Local Level RL celebs all over SL

The concept of "Celebrity" has been so twisted and overused in RL, I like to keep it out of SL, personally. There are some notable people, who have done great things with SL, some are regulars in this Forum. But there are way too many to name. So I'll just say thanks to all of them. You know who you are.

I don't know what makes someone important to me is my relationship with them
or if they make something impressive that I think wow how beautiful or clever,
but success their no way we can really as residents determine it unless the person
who is open about what is going on with their business like Desmond has been.
But Desmond probably most likely would be successful what he did because his
pixels and real life self is just designed for greatness.
There also others because they are well know like Sarah Nerd, personally she is more
of well trusted business owner name then versus Anshe for me personally.
But I don't why that is.
My friends who make great things and good people are celebrities in my life here regardless if they are well known or lesser known like Cel, Winter, Osprey, Raindrop, Blu, Hunter, Alpha, Mykyl, Auroraskye, Princess, Alphonsus, Lee, Hubs, Soldeus or even Amaranthim, plus numerous others who just do cool, interesting things that I find interesting regardless if others notice or not and regardless if Italk to them on regular basis, those in forum I read every day here their thoughts and experiences are my celebrities too they put human face on world
