From: Hank Ramos What makes for a good search? (disclaimer: I'm asking because I want to make sure the search in my world-wide store covers what people want) Search in general in-world is borked. The 'search all' is laughable so we are left with 'search places'. I use the latter, but if I do not have the time to teleport to 100 shoe stores (and wait for them to rez) to find the ones to match my gown I use xstreet to find them then go to the one that has what I want. A search much like what we have on the advanced search in xstreet, but in world, would be a great start. Let us have the options to define what we want (price, perms, keywords, category, sort order, etc). One search it is better to order by relevance, but on another search ordering by price is a better sort option. I do not think I would search by creator ... if I knew a creator who leads the field in a certain item I would go to their store (or a webpage). Oh, some way to limit searches to not show 100 listings for minor variations on an object (colors, etc) would be great. I may want a green blouse, but there is no reason why it can not be listed as an option with other blouses that use the same design (then allow me to specify that feature in my search query).

Put some free stuff up while you can and irk those top 10!
11-23-2009 13:05
I deleted anything I used to give "free". Believe me these were not promotions, they were just give aways. But seeing as how a $0L listing is considered a promotion then here you go. Here is a promotional version of Demons for free temporarily: https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=1947130This is a "Zyngo-like" game that has been around since wayyyy before Zyngo and by the way it ROCKS, isn't buggy and isn't hackable ... so why pay for it ... it's FREE NOW! There's my $L0 promotion! Everyone should join in and squash the non-free non-promotion oriented merchants by GIVING away better quality then what's sold so LL has no one's bum left to kiss in these matters. Go LL!

Of course it's greed. Fortunately, for this form of greed there IS competition. Go to Apez or Slapt and list there. I'm slowly delisting and moving over to them, myself.
Edit to add: At least they aren't deluding us with the words, "We're looking for suggestions."

From: sable Valentine At Apex, Slapt and I believe the other one was called Meta Life, can you pay in lindens like on xstreet? Yep, and to be honest, I've found Slapt to be better than Apez, as far as listing as a content creator goes. Slapt is more like XStreet just before LL bought it out and ruined it, in it's listing tools. Shopping seems pretty painless too. They already have a freebie section and once things simmer down a bit, they're going to look at allow us to list all the colors of one outfit on ONE listing. And all this without tacking on more fees.

From: Hank Ramos What makes for a good search? (disclaimer: I'm asking because I want to make sure the search in my world-wide store covers what people want)
1. Keyword search? Pull up all items that match one of the keywords typed 2. Boolean searching with AND/OR? 3. Ability to search items for a particular vendor or category only? 4. Etc...
How do you like to sort?
1. By creator? 2. By price? 3. By popularity?
Do you agree or disagree that ratings and reviews are either representative of products quality or easily gamed? I'd love the ability to have the Boolean abilities so as not to bring up every item with a particular keyword in it and also to be able to search by creator.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Some people will stick it out, until they run afoul of LL's idea of customer support for NPIOFs. After all, XStreet is a part of LL now...

From: Rene Erlanger Not sure the could ever do that...Xstreet uses the same delivery systems as the other Shopping sites. If you block it, you block XStreet too. When you add something to your inventory in SL, what really happens behind the scenes? A database entry gets added or updated, nothing more. Since LL owns Xstreet, they could integrate it far more tightly: they could bypass LSL completely and use SQL instead. Purchases handled by direct database writes. Maybe this is what they have in mind for "guaranteed delivery"?

From: Argent Stonecutter I wonder how many of the extra three hundred thousand or so new items are freebies. I took a sample of 5 medium categories and two large ones: Out of 71,894 items, 483 were free (zero L$), or about 0.7%

So, was the whole freebie issue moot in the first place?

From: Argent Stonecutter So, was the whole freebie issue moot in the first place? Well, I think it went this way... 1. LL wanted to make more USD$ on their purchase of XStreetSL, so they worked to raise prices since they were the defacto commerce system in SL since they bought out the top two competitors in the market. 2. A small minority of sellers were upset about freebie competition, so worked to basically have them banned (well not banned, but priced out of the market) 3. I think we should brace for further anticompetitive behavior by LL in the coming months with maybe banning or restrictions on outworld commerce and currency exchange, and maye other measures to increase LL profits.
