If you are creative, you can use it as a catalogue. I bought a Thinc press a little while back and I made a catalogue hud for people to browse my properties at their leisure, and to get an idea of the prices and prims for my apartments and some houses. It has a notecard to help people pick out the property they need, and is full of landmarks that you can use to teleport around instead of waiting at the rental center to sift through properties, although waiting at the rental center will show what's available.

It's a nifty tool and absolutely could revolutionize how people shop for stuff if people knew it was a catalogue where they could see prices and multiple pictures of items.

I would also note that Hippotech has come out with a book, and it also gives out objects. I haven't tried it, but there is a demo at Hippo Technologies island.

that sounds interesting....maybe for new releases and for properties i can see the value. still not sure how the update thing would work or the idea that folks would spread them far and wide for you.

In order to get my business look a bit more professional, I decided to hired someone to make me a new image for my classified and land picture. Does look a lot better then what I had before, I guess. The main reason was because I needed a full page ad in a new magazine (yet to be released), so I had her make 2 nice looking pictures.

Next will be the plants store, that also can use a good design, especially since I rely much on a classified for that one.
Overall, I am pretty pleased with the results of this new venture. Never would have thought that it would be profitable in the first month, especially since it was not open for the first 10 days of it! Seems that a combination of a good search result and a high places classified are more then enough. Might even double the land eventually :-)

On my new domain www.sampireundesign.com I did install Joomla, but still lack the time to create a solid website with it. Eventually I want to combine the current XStreet listing with a blog, feedreader and maybe a small forum. Another form of marketing :)

Finally the new script I have been talking about. The beta version is now being tested by myself and 2 friends, and it looks good. Yesterday I purchased Hippo Update, so I can promise buyers free updates of the functionality, and this week I will release it. Keep an eye out on the new products forum. But since I do expect much from it, probably it won't sell :D Not that it matters much, I created it for myself in the first place.

As for the book you've been talking about, I do not see much added value in it to be honest. Saw it at the hippo mainstore, and did not buy it. What I believe, is that people will take it, but it never leaves their inventory. Books in SL are a disaster anyway, because of the loading times of the textures.

Finally done with the scripted gadget.
Now this might be seen as blatant advertising, but some people did show interest so I post it anyway. It is useful for anyone renting shops in malls or at clubs, I guess. That is why I made it anyway: I needed it myself for this purpose :D

Home, Garden and Patio Expo 2009
03-20-2009 08:56
Got this last night:
From: The All-Stars Relay for Life Team

Home, Garden and Patio Expo 2009!
You are cordially invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Home, Garden and Patio Expo raising money for Relay For Life, taking place May 4th through May 10th, 2009. We have rented 4 Sims for this event and set up will take place the 2nd and 3rd of May. That's right! The expo will double in size this year! Last year, was fun and successful; this year will be even better. New things have been planned for the expo this year.
This expo features builders from all areas of home and land decor in SL. From prefabs and furniture to flowers and swimming pools, this event brings a wide variety of merchandise available in SL, to those wanting to decorate their homes and land.
Each exhibitor will have their own area, to set up as they please, to display their work for sale to the general SL public. Each area will be 2048 sq. m and will allow 650 prims.

Any one want further info let me know and i will send the NC - also, I didn't think of telling the coordinator to come over and post here- but will do so.

Mmm... This is happening right over my "big 40" birthday period. I'm even off work from the 30th Apr to 6th May. Now just as long as no-one here in RL has any major surprises in store for me ;), this sounds very interesting. And with a 2048 sq. m set-up, if I were to get an invite I could virtually replicate my main store, rezzing platform and all!

Thanks, Amara, I just got it. Did she give you a landmark, or is it something that will come out later?

You know - darn good question! She did send me a receipt for my payment- it was late and my brain was fuzzy- i will look later to see if anything there. I will ask if not.

I'm in. I needed this, it will be a good boost to go into a creative mode. I plan to make some limited edition items in advance.

I'm in too. :D

I have so much stuff that is almost finished. This will give me the kick in the pants to wrap that up and still have time to get some new stuff done just for the expo. :) Woot.

Hello! I'm the team captain for the All-Stars and our team is the one putting the Home, Garden and Patio Expo together. This is our second year and like last year, the expo is set up to benefit The American Cancer society and Relay for Life, but also it is set up to be a service and give recognition to SL's great builders.

Last Expo turned out fantastic.. and we've added a couple new things this year. We'd love to have more builders, (prefab and furniture), gardeners, landscapers.. and patio-ers.. -grin- join us.. We are renting four sims for the event and won't get the landmark until shortly before our set up days.

Thank you Araranthim, for the invite to come post in this thread. My IMs have been crazy with builders eager to jump in and collectively show their wares. We are excited to bring back the expo.. and happy that our builders get a turn at having a big expo, like we so often see in the SL Fashion world... this is your time to shine.

Please feel free to IM me for information about the Expo or to make a reservation.

Have a GREAT day! Nikki Mathieson

There's bound to be another update next month, so no rush Ralektra.

Logo wise, bear in mind your actual logo does not have to have pictures in it. It could just as easily be type only. My PP Designs roundel has no pictures, it's just type arranged in a "designed" way, that includes my tag line "The Home of Low Prim Designs". That's purely a personal choice, your logo could include a pic too.

Your advert however definitely needs to be a combination of stuff. Have your logo, some product shots and maybe a tag line to explain what you're about.

I think the hardest thing was that I was trying to incorporate all I do into one thing. Your post made me think that I should just pick one representative thing and use that. So I have a new one (finally) and I will send it to you, for the next update :) I couldn't use the gown that was in my signature because that wasn't even one I actually sell (how dumb was that). But the idea was a good one, and I thank you :)

Excellent Ral, and well done, you've done a nice job! It's simple, straightforward and shows what you do.
Send me that copy in-world for the next update which I'm guessing will be sometime mid April-ish. Whatever you do though, the one you send me for the BO-Xchange must be square, 512x512 max.

This applies to many situations.

As a result of Honeybear's thread (something about "honest alternatives";), her mall is now fully rented out. All the shop are occupied and many, probably most, of the renters are from this forum. However, it's one thing to take a shop in a mall, but quite another to sell from it and, if the mall itself isn't generating a lot of traffic, then it's up to the seller to do something about it.

In Honey's mall, each shop is on its own parcel - a decision that was made following another recent thread here - so sellers can be proactive in bringing people to their mall shops by promoting them in search. I have 2 shops in Honey's mall, and that's what I've done with them both. They each specialise in a small part of what I sell in the main store and, even then, they only show a small part of the small parts, if you see what I mean. In the few days that I've had the shops, one of them has had sales the exceed the 4 weeks rental and the 4 weeks in search combined. And remember that it takes a few days for a new parcel to show in the All search.

So this post is really an encouragement to be proactive with mall shops, rather than just displaying the products and hoping for the best. It doesn't take much time and it can be beneficial.
