Don't RP in Midian City (Homophobia)

LL will do nothing to make Midian a more accepting place for you. Going back there to solicit more abuse is only going to weaken substantially any AR case you may have against the participants there.

It may be that they are homophobic -- I don't know. I have RP'd there once or twice and I have never seen it, but it may be that there are some homophobic people there or people who are RPing as homophobic. But at the end of the day, Midian could elect to exclude LGBT people completely -- there is nothing in the TOS that prohibits this. It's how the lesbian venues are allowed to exclude all male AVs, for example. So what I would recommend is simply calming down and finding a different place to RP. Doesn't justify the abuse you've gotten, but pouring gasoline onto the flames serves no useful purpose.

Add me to those who advise you to just take the high road and walk away.

I kind of think that gay bashing, just in regular chat, or island bans - Are not going to be a very enforcable offenses for much longer - if they even are now.

Harassment in general isnt really a realistically enforcable offense, and hasnt been for a while.


My advice to people is dont give out your RL information. Be careful what gossip you engage in, and dont be afraid to just mute and walk away.

Becuase the bigger SL gets the more and more the only enforcable "harassment" will be grid attacks. Simple as that.

Now if its a gay bashing BUILD, it will be easier for the Lindens to erase it. But even that sort of stuff will probably be getting slow responses, just like the Racist content you hear about.

It's too bad too, because I've often considered playing at Midian because it looks like a fun place (if you're into that genre).

You say you have AR'd them and that nothing is happening. How do you know? I thought LL didnt inform the ARer of action taken? I've never submitted an AR before so I am just curious about how it works, pardon the ignorance.

And what kind of gay male avatar are you, Chaos, if you're wasting time in role play, when you could be shopping for clothes and body hair, clubbing, trying on construction outfits, checking out Bradley's ass, etc.?

But if you read some of my other posts around here, you will find that I am one of the "gayest" avatars in all of SL, construction outfit and all, so I though it was okay to poke fun.

I'm not personally offended, but I don't see the utility in self-deprecating humour of that sort in a thread like this ... but it's no big deal, either, really.

I would suggest just file the ar as the abuse comes in, mute the abuser, and move on
there are plenty of places in SL that you can roleplay if that is what you really want to do

I have created a city themed sim that many ppl tell me is similar in ways to midian, however I would not know as I have not been to midian that I know of.

Just a message to say that I'm gay, and I played gay characterS in Midian for more than 6 months now. I even had 2 different gay characters in the "Catwalkers" and I have NEVER got any problems but with one guy, who in fact was a jerk about everybody.

And you have to dissociate RP and OOC. Have you been insulted OOC ? Cuz there are some people who are -playing- some bad characters. Maybe you got insulted in roleplay.

You're pretty vague about what really happened here...

But again, I never had any problems, and I know a lot of gay people in Midian that never had any problems either.

And btw, there is no angels and demon in Midian City, you just see nekos and some vampires, but the vampires are a myth and doesn't exists ! xD

Weighing in on the side of those who warn against retaliating in ARable ways.

There are times when symmetrical response (an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth) is the right way. There are times when an asymetrical response is the right way - ask any black belt in jiu-jitsu. Ask Mahatma Gandhi.

A case like this calls for asymetrical: They are the bad, bad EEVULL persecutors (supply MUCH unarguable documentation!); you are the innocent, nonoffending good-citizen helpless victim of irrational discriminatory prejudice and unending persecution (don't actually mention the Ku Klux Klan, lynchings, cross-burnings, Nazis or the Holocaust; just leave those artfully unstated in the background). ANY thing you do in this case that is remotely ARable will be held against you. LL, which really does not want to get involved in resident injustices that don't directly affect its business model, will be happy to conclude it is dealing with black pots vs. black kettles and move on. LL has a LOT of other things on its mind that frankly are more pressing for them. You need to make them feel guilty (they are in San Francisco, after all) about abandoning you to the wolves (or cats, as the case may be).

All this is assuming your situation is as you present it. There are several posters above who obviously are suspicious of that, and they are right: We have seen far too many bad-faith posts in this forum by outraged "victims" who turned out to be Jeffrey Dahmers complaining because their prospective prey was putting up too much of a fight.

All of which is to say: If you are right, and as you say you are, you are fighting a headwind that has nothing to do with you or gayness or Midian or even fairness. Life is unfair, alas. If you are wrong, and a bad-faith poster (it is often hard to tell!), you are going to be dogmeat on these forums forevermore.
