>.>; I also like nipples. Really though, you could barely see the nakedness. It didn't seem offensive to me.

If that's the case, then the US' genocide of the Native American population is also recent history. Where's YOUR collective remorse?

Yep, I would classify the European genocide of the Native Americans as recent history. In fact I think the discovery of the 'new world' and Europeans settlement of the Americas would be a good starting point for the classification of recent history.

On my planet, we don't resort to hurling insults and splitting rhetorical hairs when someone points out our mistakes. Especially when that rhetorical hair-splitting actually weakens our original argument. Apologize, and I will forgive you, though. :)

I wasnt aware I had insulted you and I wasnt aware that I had made a mistake and I certainly havnt weakened my original argument as I wasnt trying to present an argument in the first place. I was simply commenting on my experience of interacting with Germans and the way they feel about their history.

If you are still troubled by my classification of 'recent history' then please list all of the historical ages of recorded human history and then draw a line under what you think is recent history. I can then review and let you know if your argument is correct. If it is, I will offer you the apology you seek. If you are wrong then I demand that you destroy all technology you come into contact with so you can stop spreading your unfounded lies over the internet :)

LOL, all of your "German friends" secretly hate you.

EDIT: Oops! I just noticed that you aren't American. You have to pardon me, as I assume that anyone speaking English and dissing the Germans on the internet is also an American like me. I sometimes forget about our little colony off the coast of the old continent!!

Thinking back on what you said, though, it makes perfect sense. England has pretty much spent all of its "recent history" losing its empire and sucking up to its successor, across the pond, so it goes to reason that your perspective would be warped. Take it easy, Percy, it's just a cultural misunderstanding! :D

I cant argue that point at all im afraid.

Apart from the warped perspective bit. As you are American you still live in an infantile country so events that are ancient to you are in fact recent to the civilised world.

WWII isn't "recent history".

Technically - In a historical sense, Anything that happens where there are still living accounts is fairly recent.

That is becuase when you study this type of history you can use living persons as information. This is a huge benefit.

However this can make impartial historical account difficult, becuase living people and their direct offspring were directly affected by the events you are describing.

Since you bring up World War 2 it leads to a slanted view of events that favor your own country's involvement. Mainly simply through personalization. If you interveiw 20 soldiers and 20 soldiers wives, its hard not to be affected by their human drama.

What a completely bizarre and twisted perspective... what are you getting from this wanton misrepresentation of sexual history? The US was and still is utterly obsessed with equating sex, with shame and degradation.

*laughs* Bizzare and twisted.

Of course.

Our modern culture is the product of the cultures that came before. In the 19th cetury people looked to Victorian England and emulated it. People in the United States. People in Europe, and People in countires where England and European colonies were spread.

Sexual Mores were just a part of that. So were manners of dress. Fashion, Literature, A movement to end slavery.

Its interesting to note, that during this period Women's orgasms were seen as a medical disorder called "hysterical paroxysm". It was necessary to administer treatment in a doctors office.

To ignore that England was the dominant cultural force during the mid 1800's to the turn of the 20th century is a bit short-sighted.

The US has been in the sex sells business since hollywood started, and there has been a constant reduction in any repression. Movie, TV's and Music all celebrate sex to excess, to the point where many with family concerns decry it.

The sexual revolution included the United States - I guess people forget the Summer of Love took place here.

I really think people see a minority of our citizens and think they speak for our entire country.
