My biggest mistake thus far was my first land purchase. I was looking for a modest piece of land, but saw a large chunk for a really inexpensive price. Not asking WHY the land was cheap was a mistake.

It was tropical beachfront land with a great exposure BUT the sim owner was a rather flighty person and was talking about modifying the center of the island into a World of Warcraft battle area. Within 10 hours of my purchase, the covenant was gone, all sales were blocked, and the other owners were IM'ing me to tell me what a mistake I'd made. Oh, and then LL tried to reclaim the owners islands for non-payment of tier. I don't know how she got out of that one.

After weeks of worry and drama, the sim owner changed her mind about the battle area, put up a covenant, and opened sales again. I sold the land for exactly what I paid for it and shook the dust off my feet as I left that place.

I have trouble finding my penis too. But enough about RL...

I can help you find it next time.

I can sum up my biggest SL mistake in one sentence made up of two words: Logging in. :) :p

I was trying on outfits and hair. I was naked and bald and I meant to delete a landmark in the folder I was about to try on, I think it was ETD. I hit TP insted of delete. I landed and to my horror was lagged to where I couldn't tp back out or a minute.

OMG, I'm right there with you, sister. One night, I crashed while getting my avie dressed. It was late, so I said heck with it and went to bed. My avie had hair and a lovely top, but was naked from the waist down.

Well, the next day, I read about a big sale on one of the blog and logged in to pop on over there. In my excitement, I'd forgotten about the crash the night before and wasn't paying close attention in the morning and TP'ed to the store literally half nekkid. I noticed my bare behind as I was walking from the TP site to the store's front door and quickly TP'ed home.

Talking behind someone's back in IM, then realising I'd typed it into chat...

I was casually talking to a very sweet and well mannered man in a pub, who evidently was having a rather hot conversation with another woman in IM. In the middle of our conversation, he accidentally sent a message meant for her to me on chat. I hadn't read anything THAT lewd in a long, long time. He was rather embarassed. LOL

Allowing my builder to not sell me the individual pieces of the sim wide mall I designed. In a huff, this builder deleted a building setting on about 18000sqm of land with about 3000 rented prims dangling in the sky.

After the mall building was rebuilt, forgetting the builder was "in group" and was allowed to come back (even being banned from the land, this person stood on the outside of the sim) and delete the entire courtyard spanning about 25,000 sqm. This was last year when groups had more power individually instead of all the neat permissions to choose from today.

For those that don't know, its the Big O! Mall in Baekje.

...but what about a creator who gives away a product as a promo for a few days and then decides to offer it on general sale at a price?

...However, the creator is always within their rights to sell at whatever price they choose. I've seen plenty of items offered cheap or free while still in testing phase, and then sold at a higher price when completed.

This is done in RL too. Another MMO game company is doing a pre-release for their newest module that will be released around the end of August. The pre-release price is about 1/7 of what the normal retail price will be. And tosses in some bonus things that won't be available in the regular retail version. It's just a marketing tool.

my biggest mistake ever was doing some work on a themed sim. later the owner said the building wasn't good enough and she would have to get it rebuild. a while later there was some other glinches since I had my plaza in that sim as well and one of the staff members kept changing parcel description (loss of traffic) and also made us responsible for the lag in the sim.

So we closed the plaza down, a refund of the remaining rent was agreed on (12.200L$) and I went and got my own sim.

Next day the owner of the sim claims we would have stolen tenants from her sim (our sim wasn't even landworked yet, lol) so she wouldnt give me the refund.

Next I found my self banned from her sim... now, today I got a ALT account ,cause all the lease units and other stuff is keyed to it so it doesn't screw up my main accounts transactions.

being curious how that other sim has done since I left I TP'ed there. Only to find the building that was "to bad" still in place there and at the landing point a small cube is giving away a sim t-shirt for free that we made as a sample for the owner but never got paid for.

and yeah, still lags like hell, so wan't our plaza that lagged the place lol. and now, I dont flame that name out now hehe

I bought a "shoe machine" on SLEx. It was not very expensive, and seemed to offer unlimited income return over the long haul. I got my money back and the machine is no longer for sale on SLEx.

But, in the in-between, I wasted at least 10 hours trying to make shoes with it, and twice accidentally deleted parts of my house trying to get rid of little tiny prim objects it flooded my property with when it malfunctioned.

Then, after I wrote a review that trashed the machine and the maker, now he sends me nasty messages every once in a while when he gets drunk and belligerent.

A close second would have to be, contouring my land AFTER my house was on it. That wasted a tremendous amount of time.

Third is buying land in VorizonHirkutsk, or whatever the name of the sim is. It never occured to me that the name of the sim being something nobody could remember would impact so many other things.

Fourth would be building a wall of my house on the edge of the property, where floating text can leak through the wall, and chat can be heard through the wall.

My biggest mistake was not upgrading my pc when I made my first avatar in 2003 (which i still have). I stopped playing because SL was killing my poor old pc. I should have upgraded and bought all the city sim land when they rolled them out in 2004. mmmm city sim land.

My biggest mistake was selling my land..I had slowly and methodically bought up 6600 meters in a gorgeous low lag Original Continent sim on an inland sea. Got tired of trying to figure out what to do with it, so sold it off. Got a good price for it, but now I go back and I get all sad coz it's chopped up into 512 sections (thank god no ad farms!) On the other hand, I'm saving money on having no tier. It'll take me a while to find another parcel as nice as that.... *sniffle*

My biggest mistake was while dancing with friends at a club. A woman kept aggressively hitting on me and was getting on my nerves. I IM'd a friend mentioning the woman and asked her to help me get her off my back and saying some not so nice things in the process. You guessed it, I accidentally IM'd it to the woman I was trying to avoid. In the IM I referred to her as a bitch and boy did she ever become one.

My biggest Mistakes in SL always revolve around getting involved with Certain People. As Naming them or Discussing Specific Circumstances that would tend to Identify them Would be a Violation of the Forums Rules, that's about All i can say.
