From: Joshooah Lovenkraft From what I recall seeing, it will be very difficult to ugly up the outside because of the way the land is parcelled. I'm pretty sure the automated system LL uses cuts the parcel precisely around the footprint of your house so there doesn't seem like there will be much room, if any, to landscape anything ugly. I'm not positive though but I think that's how it was done which is kinda smart from LL's perspective as it makes the place a whole lot easier to maintain since the ugly is all contained inside. Uglying them up would also violate the covenant. Assuming the Lindens enforce the covenant stipulations.

From: Rene Erlanger I think Psyche Tyche Shepherd stated just under 70k have premium accounts.
/fixed - It's a different Greek Goddess name Looking at the Stipends paid out every month then there are between 62,000 and 78,000 premium accounts - The lower figure is if all those eligible for weekly stipends of L$500 & L$400 are still premium. The top estimate is if all premiums are at the L$300 stipend- The average of these is probably a good estimate - So 70,000 in total . I've been monitoring the uptake of the Linden Home Beta on a weekly basis over on SLU. There is already a tiny amount of churn amongst the beta sample with a small number being abandoned/returned each week. I'll be keeping up my monitoring after it comes out of Beta on the 17th .

I chose a design that had all the outdoor part of the footprint as a decent-sized outdoor deck. I've got more prims outside on the deck than inside - but the bike is a large part of that. There's a dance-ball, flags and seating out there - plus some Magellan stuff to confuse everybody. The place had been getting maybe a dozen or so visitors per day so far. Things will probably wake up a bit more soon. I think that the scheme is a good option for a newbie until they get to grips with SL. Some may even stay on. A plus point is the open space around the houses. A minus point is the lack of crazy - but that might be a plus for some people.

I was tempted for a minute there to have a place to go and change hats, thereby saving a few prims on my mainland for other things -- but, nah. I'm already using a 512 for extra prims.

Premium Homes
01-27-2010 05:56
So is there some list or something that you have to get on to get this premium home? Are there really so few premium members that they can just give out homes to them? I would think that is a LOT of homes to be giving to people for "free". Since I'm a premium member, I wouldn't mind getting a little perk that comes with it. So where is the list for me to put my name on and make sure I get my free home?!!! LOL!

From: Rock Vacirca What proportion of the regulars in SL are Premium, do you think? More to the point, premiums who have a spare 512 of tier and need a home?

can someone please set the stream on all of those linden home sims to a station that plays "Suburbia" by pet shop boys" in an endless loop?

I'm not the least bit interested in owning a Linden Home, even if I had the tier available for it. It's a great, fabulous, fantastic idea for new premium accounts. It's just an eh for those of us who actually like being able to do whatever we want with our lands.
For once, LL came up with something that will be useless to game, however.

Since I recently became homeless (sold my old mainland plot) I thought I'd at least give it a try. Having owned a much larger plot for a long time I'm sure a 512 plot with 117 prims will seem pretty limited. Which brings me to my first point. Getting people to become "premium" is an obvious advantage to LL. I would guess the additional motivation for LL is that a certain number of people will give this a try and realize that having a "home" is pretty cool which will lead them to think "I like this, but owning a larger plot with more prims would be even better". So I can see this as being a good thing for more than just LL. Of course I could be wrong, it's happened before. Now my second point. Have any other premium members received the email announcement about this yet? I got mine this morning, however there are some problems with it. None of the images in the email will load and the links all lead to "page not found". To be honest I think this may be an issue with my computer and not the email, but I did chuckle. My first reaction was "Jeez, can't they get anything right".

Maybe they should update the info on the front page "Your own private virtual home to connect with friends – coming soon!"

I think it's a little odd that they sent a message asking me to become a premium member to my premium account. None of my basic account alts that I checked have received the e-mail.

I've been on a basic account for 3+ years now. This is actually having me considering going premium. Would be nice to have a little home away from any business land. A pretty little garden with a picket fence.

A pretty little garden with a picket fence. No garden. No fence. Your property line is smack up against the walls of the house, with just a 4M deep area right in front of the front door that is actually "on your parcel". Aside from what you put "on your front porch" or on your roof, you can't decorate external to your house at all. Can't even attach a wind chime to the eaves of the house, (except over your front door), because they overhang the Linden land outside your parcel.

From: Melita Magic So we have to wait for our invitation?.. The invitation thing was just for the Beta. I think that when the thing goes live next month, any Premium with 512 of available tier will be able to ask for a Home.

Apologies for incorrect name spelling! I always read your thread regarding grid size, which has now moved over to your own website I know this information will be impossible for you to find, but it would be interesting to see how many new premium subscriptions are taken up due to his project. I still think that during the first wave, most of the properties will be taken by those who already have Premium subs a/c. Having said that, i won't be participating. (I quite like the Hobbit's styled home, that would be my choice...or one of the other Fantasy homes) .

Can't even attach a wind chime to the eaves of the house, (except over your front door), because they overhang the Linden land outside your parcel. The footprints vary across and within themes. My choice had all the external area in a single deck. Other house types have area external to the house either all around or on a number of sides.
