Posted by Jack, yesterday.

From: someone
After a really successful Beta period we are delighted to announce that Linden Homes will be launching for all Premium members on February 17th.
I'm surprised that there hasn't been a thread about it already.

I don't see how they can fill the parks (I haven't seen them) because they need the non-tenant land for the prims for the homes.

hehe. They can't do that because of opinions posted in forums - it's an entitlement with a premium account.

I was not talking about the protected land between the homes but rather the sims between the "vilages" that have nothing in them but trees, they are labeled as protected land but it would be easy to cut out the needed plots to expand the vilages.

Oh. I haven't had a good look round so I haven't seen them. I hope they don't ruin your view too :)

I'm pretty sure any expansion will only take place on the edges where the existing sims stop.

They claimed that new sims added to the projects may incorporate some of the suggestions made by beta testers and visitors to the beta sims, such as more realisticly thought out layouts. The beta was made by random, automated parcel and home placement, with very little hands-on clean-up and fiddling after the fact.

I imagine you're going to lose those "parks" precisely because those are just waiting to be cut up to do exactly that.

I bet this brainchild got hatched when the Lindens were sitting around wondering what to do with all that vacant land left over after everybody moved/got herded to Zindra.

I'm in the middle of terraforming an adult residential sim I plan on renting out as an alternative to these places; lots of room and privacy, people encouraged to use skyboxes to keep the nicely-landscaped ground open and uncluttered, no rules particularly other than don't upset me or the other residents.

I think it's going to prove quite popular with people a couple of months after they've moved into their Linden starter-homes and have come to appreciate both the potential of having your own place and the limitations and drawbacks of your own place being one of these Linden homes.

It didn't clarify, but does it mean, *only* if you have not already used your 512?

If my memory is correct, you do need to have 512m available, which would include the free 512m tier.

Other than having to have 512 tier available - is this truly for ALL premium members, not just new ones?

It's always nice to have a place to fly to.

AFAIK, you are buying the land under the house, so you need to have at least 512 available.

What proportion of the regulars in SL are Premium, do you think?

Will this screw the rental market in SL again?

You have to buy it? Is it Buy for 0?

I've all ready got 512 and I wouldn't want a prebuilt house anyway. I would NEVER have wanted one.

I think Psyche Shepherd stated just under 70k have premium accounts.

I guess this "Linden Home" project is designed to increased Premium accounts, however most will be offered to those that already have premium accounts (like myself & main ALT). To be honest i don't think the likes of me should be allowed to participate in this program.

I think they could have offered these homes a different way. Maybe offer the homes 30-days free to Noobs, thereafter in order to keep it...they need to purchase Premium subscription. If we already have a premium account....how does it benefit LL?

It tempts me to go back to premium. Not sure, but it's got me thinking about it.
Of course, if I could buy a 512 plot someplace decent instead, I'd definitely go for it.

This is the incentive for new premiums.... that it is available to old premiums is irrelevant. Here, have your cheap Linden home! You get the full 117 prims to decorate, you get a stipend and it only costs you the difference between your stipend and your membership cost! No monthly tier fee for it! And you get premium service!

For people not terribly invested in SL, it is a way to make them moderately invested. It appeals to the really cheap among us, those who think or actually can live within the confines of only 512m of land.

Also add in the fact that the neighborhood is not going to be so densely packed that people will be right on top of each other - the neighborhoods are organized and there is space between the plots. That doesn't mean that someone can't ugly up the outside, but it means that you get something somewhat nice to live in, and no clubs with their endless shouting and spam will crop up next to you.

It is very much something for rentals to be worried about.

From what I recall seeing, it will be very difficult to ugly up the outside because of the way the land is parcelled. I'm pretty sure the automated system LL uses cuts the parcel precisely around the footprint of your house so there doesn't seem like there will be much room, if any, to landscape anything ugly. I'm not positive though but I think that's how it was done which is kinda smart from LL's perspective as it makes the place a whole lot easier to maintain since the ugly is all contained inside.
