I would never do that. This thread is about being careful when you are in SL, or anywhere online. I simply pointed out that you can be hurt online. I have read stories that have scared the crap out of me about girls being taken advantage of on MSN, and other social-networks. This could happen in SL too.

Extortion attempt in SL...

Thought I'd share this experience with everyone.

I introduced my SL girlfriend to a resident I had only recently met, thinking nothing of it. When we left him to go off exploring, he sent her a gun as a "gift" (she loves guns), which made her feel awkward considering she had just met this guy. She thanked him for it, and asked him what she owed him for it (to be polite), to which he replied "Don't worry about it, unless you have 499l's" She didn't want to feel like she owed him money, so she sent him the 499l's. He then IM'd her again and said it was actually 200l more than that, so she gave it to him. It's worth noting that the gun was a low prim piece of crap which he obviously found for free, which makes him an even bigger scumbag.

Needless to say, I got back to him and "convinced" him to give her all her money back, and my GF gave back the gun. I personally would not have offered the guy anything for it if it was a gift, but my GF is a much sweeter soul than I, and I know many of you might get scammed in a similar way if you're not careful.

Anyone have similar stories?

In any case, it's not extortion unless he threatened her, which is kinda silly in SL considering you can just tp anywhere.

I told all of you why this was a unique situation. The extortion was implied. I'm not naming any names here. I don't want this fellow to get in any trouble because it has been dealt with, so stop pretending you are all SL lawyers.

She believed the gift was coming from a friend of mine. When he asked for money, she gave it to him probably because she didn't want to offend him, and possibly me. I realize that this is not how most of us would handle this situation, but it happened to someone I care about. I wanted to share it with you guys so it doesn't happen to you too.

The threat can be implied. You can be hurt socially in SL.

He abused his relationship to me to get that money off of her. He did not have to come out and say it. This kind of thing happens all the time in the real world, and it can happen in a virtual world as well. He and I are a part of a sim that my GF will be joining. She wanted to keep in good standing with him. He abused this position to get that money.

Like I said, there are details about this that I will not share on here because I don't want it to become an issue.. It was implied. I'm not in court here, guys. I don't have to prove anything to any of you. I was just offering the story as a warning to people who might fall victim to it as well.

Someone is "sharing" a rather convoluted story with us in an effort to "warn" us about the terrible terrible things that might happen in SL, RL, and possibly on Uranus. They've made a variety of factual mistakes in presenting the information, on behalf of another resident, and when questioned engage in name-calling and claim that they can't present the entire story.

The drama is long and so are the stories Tall Tails as they say doesnt maked intersting rumors, only sad rl views of how people are unhappy with their lives.....
