As far as I know, they use a hardware hash in case of PCs. Which is unique enough. If a Mac address is only derived from the network card, and there's no other way to generate a unique hash ID, it's a general Macintosh problem.

Ummm, MAC address does not refer to an Apple Macintosh, but the Media Access Control layer ID of a network card...also known as an Ethernet ID. Unfortunately these can (and are all the time) easily spoofed or changed. Most routers have settings to clone MAC addresses from other devices on a network...

Macs use the same networking protocols as Win PCs, Linux boxes, etc. That's how I'm able to use the same tubes as you to get on the interwebs and to use SL.

Lemme get this straight... your brother has his own account, setup using a 'phoney' email address, he learnt how to do by his greifer pals... you are lax about security of your account, he lied to you about using your account, but later admitted it after you found out you are banned, for crashing a SIM!
I assume he can still use his account, as LL don't normally ban by IP address, which means that your PC and account are now effectively banned. Your brother is underage to be using the Mature version of an account, but you are laxed about security. The result is you are now banned and you want sympathy from the forum readers because?

Despite his Manner of speech, what he said was entirely correct, The Lindens DO tend to come down hard on people deliberately Crashing sims. It IS extremely irritating when you work for hours or days on something Only to have some Cerebral Pygmy Damage or destroy what you've done by forcing a Sim Rollback. And Yes, the best way for Hoax to get around the ban WOULD be to purchase a New computer, One he WOULD be well advised to Keep his irresponsible younger sibling Away from.

Oh, this post from Jumpman was fine. But he has a history of being mostly unintelligible and extremely irritating when he is intelligible, which is what I was referencing. Maybe he's improving. And yes, he is right this time - to the extent any of us is right in giving credence to this improbable OP at all. (Personally, I think we're buying a used story from a guy named "Hoax." I can't stress the importance of this issue enough. So many people are careless with account security. If you share a computer with another person, or other people have access to it in any way or form, you should not set any login to remember your password. Passwords are meant to be a secret code that gives you access to something and blocks out anyone else who tries. It's like this for a reason. And you found out that reason already. Theres not much you can do about this since your already banned. Since someone else had access to your account, your account was being shared. Sad to say that it's a violation of the TOS just for that fact. :/

That doesn't change a whole lot. Your PC was hash banned obviously. Your PC needs to be more secure still.


Only recently did LL change the account registration to require email activation. Before that, you could have used complete gibberish as a email and get right into the game.

.. unfortunately in your case, the rules are pretty strict about account sharing, and in large part for this very reason. All manner of nasty things can be done in somebody else's name - it erases all possibility of accountability.

Perhaps he Has acted up in the Past, But it doesn't discredit everything he says. His points were valid, and i think deserved to be heard (And yes, i saw a little glimpse of what he can be like from other posts, But i prefer to be Patient, and fair).

As for Hoax, Well, there Are some inconsistenciesin his tale. As someone else pointed out, Were he Banned from the game he wouldn't be able to Post here, banned from one is banned from Both, that and i don't think he ever said whether he received any kind of E-mail notification from LL or not, though i recall someone asking him that.
Even IF this situation turns out to be Merely "Hypothetical" (The most charitable term for it Lol) It's still a useful point of discussion.

Comes right down to it, LL tells you to guard your password. IF, as hoax says, someone else logged in on his account, and Misbehaved, LL IS going to take action against the account, they are Not going to accept the excuse, It was my brother / sister / son / cousin / talking dog. Just think for a moment if they did, NONE of the griefers would ever be banned because the little darlings would be sprouting Fictional disfunctional relatives all over the shop.
If you want to keep your accounts, GUARD your passwords. Change them occasionally and NEVER lend them out to people, Not to relatives you are not 100% trusting of, and certainly Not to anyone who is a net stranger to you.

If it's true, Hoax has learned (We hope) from the hard school, he won't make this mistake again and many have been warned because of his tough lesson. If Not true, This is still a pretty d*mn good warning of what COULD happen if you aren't careful.
