It seems my younger brother got onto my account and did something...well...strange. When i logged into my account earlier today i was banned. I'm not exactly sure what type of ban, but it seems serious because when i log it, it says "second life cannot be accessed on this computer". I know for a fact that i did nothing bannable, the last time i was online, i had just purchased a very nice space cruiser, and was tooling around with it. I was out with some friends for most of today, and attempted to log in around 9pm eastern time. My brother denies getting onto my computer, but i can tell he's lying. I trust him to be competent on the internet, and thus i have been lax about security measures, which i now gravely regret. He has his own second life account, which i trust him not to do anything bannable with. IT seems he has now crossed the line. I was working on a very important model.

Has anyone else been banned out of the blue? and if so, what can i do to get it appealed? I'm desperate there!

-(as a side note, my brother was on a SEPPERATE ACCOUNT when he did whatever it is he did. We only share computers.)

-I have already sent some support tickets, my younger brother's ticket was responded to saying he crashed a sim (he admits to it now), and mine is still ongoing. I also submitted a ban appeal to the abuse reporting team (i got the abuse reporting team email in the "solution provided" email saying my brother had broken the TOS, i guess they also deal with ban appeals).

You would've gotten an e-mail from the Abuse Manager. It includes instructions as to how to appeal the banning.

well, apart from whatever it allegedly was your brother did, giving your brother access to your account is a BIG NO NO in Linden Land.... you'd get banned just for that. You can try raising a support ticket, but I suspect your best bet is to swallow your losses, create another account - if they let you, as IP addys get logged too, and DO NOT give your brother access to it!

Well, from my experience, AR's are rarely dealt with that quickly - it's likely that if you have been banned, it's more likely to have been because of something which happened several days ago...

You could, however, check the police blotter to see the cases that have been dealt with in the last 24-48 hours to see if any of the regions the action has been taken in look familiar?

Also, are you sure you have been banned as a result of an AR? Do LL not email residents if action is taken on an account? It could'nt be another reason such as billing etc? What is the message you get on logging in? Have you had any emails from LL?

If I had been banned for something, I would at least expect an explanation by email from LL at to the reason why...

My brother was on his OWN ACCOUNT when he did this, i'll edit my OP to reflect that.

it says "second life cannot be accessed on this computer", he must have done something really bad :(

Ah, that makes it clearer...

LL may think that his account is an ALT account of yours....

From the blotter there are the following showing up for ALT account abuse at the mo:

Date: Saturday, July 7, 2007
Violation: Community Standards: Violations using Alternate Accounts
Region: Pamlico
Description: Alt account abuse.
Action taken: Suspended 3 days.

Date: Saturday, July 7, 2007
Violation: Community Standards: Violations using Alternate Accounts
Region: Orientation Island Public
Description: Alt account abuse.
Action taken: Suspended 7 days.

I didn'r spot however if his account is still working?

Not to be an age snob, but is aforementioned little brother under 18? Which is supposed to be a no no on the main grid in spite of the fact there must be a zillion of 'em.

i don't know why it would have seemed like an alt of mine. (he used a phoney email and signed up with something that didn't require an e-mail check, a trick he learned from his griefer pals)
I'm not exactly sure why i'm asking on here, maybe i can find someone who was in my exact position

Just out of interest - have you tried rebooting your ADSL router?

Just a stab in the dark, but might help...

Umm.. given a search posts of the past, it can also be a glitch, especially if you didn't get an email from the Abuse team.

Try the account on a another computer. Also, since this falls under the 'I cannot log into Second Life' you might want to try a support ticket. Keep in mind that you probably won't get an answer until tomorrow..

Because you are both using the same IP address - the phoney email is irrelevant (although would probably be frowned upon), and is probably how this has arisen in the first place - how can LL email him if he did not supply real contact details?

That is it - power it down - wait 10 seconds, power it back up - wait 30 seconds and try logging into SL again...

Yeah... I'm not sure why you're asking here either, as you would've been sent an e-mail explaining why your account was being suspended/banned/placed into a bucket filled with concrete and dropped into the ocean.

We're the wrong people to protest your innocence to. We're not Lindens. We have no idea as to whether or not this problem sibling even exists. However, the e-mail that you would've been sent explaining the "Why" portion includes details as to how to file an appeal.

Oh... and if you faked your own e-mail address... you're probably "boned."

they DID just have a huge sweep recently.... banning/suspending alts until they were verified.

it's possible you are just required to update your contact/credit card info.

did you try redownloading the software?

my YOUNGER BROTHER faked HIS email adress for his account. My account is entirely legitimate. The only thing we share is a computer.

i should try to get a new alt and see wut the protocal is.

apparently if you sign up through places like the L-word and ben&jerry's, they don't verify your email address.

It sounds like your IP address may have been blocked, not the account. Can other accounts log into SL from the same computer now?

That's your mistake right there. If your brother has griefer pals and is going to be crashing sims, I'm just as happy that your computer got banned.... If you're legitimate, you need to be on a computer not being used by a griefer and sim-crasher.
