From: Ann Launay I demonstrated my outstanding grace while taking out the trash this morning. We have these almost chest high wheelie bins, and mine was full of cuttings and branches from last weekend's yard work, virtually all taller than my line of sight. So I get about 5 feet from the curb and get stuck on something; I try to kick the base of the bin to get it going and instead somehow manage to step on the hanging lid. Down the bin goes, taking me with it. I whack my head on the fender of my car, bash the knee on the same side onto the concrete driveway, and get hit in the opposite shoulder with the descending trash bin...and, of course, get showered with dried vegetation. I have to sit for a few minutes before I can stagger up and, now that I'm late, I can't take time to change so do my best to brush everything off. I found dead hollyhock seed pods in my hair on the drive to work, I'm pretty sure I have dried grass in my bra (which is better than a baby bat, I guess) and my knee and head ache a great deal. In summary, I hope you're all having a far better day than I am. holy cow! geez Ann. i hope you are okay.

About 2 years ago, i tripped over the trash can in my office's backroom, smashed into a filing cabinet, and landed ass down on a stepstool but not before getting my leg twisted completely around the stool. Totally f--ked up my leg so bad I had to have surgery. And rehab. Etc. I hope you're feeling better than this morning by now!

Aw, thanks guys! I'll live...I have a headache and my knee looks horrible, but those are the only lasting effects. Well, and I'm a bit itchy from whatever went down my shirt, but it's definitely survivable. I'm just glad none of my neighbors were outside at the time!

From: Ann Launay ... I'm pretty sure I have dried grass in my bra (which is better than a baby bat, I guess) and my knee and head ache a great deal... Owie! I hope you feel better soon, Ann. But I can't help but wonder...how do you know that dried grass is better than a baby bat, inside-the-bra-wise? I detect a Story!

Ann! You poor thing! that sounds like one of my tricks. Hope you're okay. Happy Rezday to Lil, belatedly. And Good Morning to all. I'm sucking down coffee here, trying to wake up... I know, 9:30 and all but I've been up early all week. The good news is the visit from my niece is going very well. She's having a great time at YMCA day camp, and I signed her up on the Teen Grid. She's really having fun with that! I'm beginning to think I'll actually make it through the 3 weeks. Oh and Brenda, she's almost 14 and last night she cooked dinner and brought me mine on a tray. Nyah, nyah, nyah nah...

I just learned this morning that the guy who owns and operates my favorite hiking website had a massive heart attack while he was on a hike. By some weird twist of fate, a doctor was hiking on the same trail and they managed to get him out, get a call to 911 (which is a miracle considering cell-phone reception around here), and save his life, but holy cow! What a story.

If your knee is tender, it may not be a bad idea to put a little ice on it, if you have the chance at work...knee injuries are nothing to mess around with. ...but, I'm guessing you already know this...and hopefully have already done so... Now you just need someone to kiss your boo-boo's better...

I didn't really know the guy - I just think he put together the best hiking website I've ever seen. www.nwhiker.com. I had no idea that he had suffered a heart attack, and to have that happen out in the woods, that far from help is a terrifying thought. I always carry my 10 essentials and a good set of first aid supplies, so I can handle just about any injury short of really catastrophic ones that could occur on the trail. I'm prepared to spend an extra night; I can make enough clean water to last as long as I need. Extra layers of clothes - fire source, calories, light etc. There's just no preparing for something like that, though. He's an awfully lucky guy.

Ah Trout just reading that story of yours. I used to hike quite a bit even had my Wilderness First Responder License, and being prepared is the #1 key. Great to hear that he made it out okay! have you ever read any of the Tom Brown books? I love them for the young children too he has one just for them.

Hi Everyone! Today's 195.5km, 121.5mile, stage was the first of the Tour for the climbers. There were two category 4 climbs in the first half and two category 2 climbs at the end. There were several minor crashes throughout the day and some rain on the course. Again there was was a three man breakaway early in the race. One of the three was Sylvain Chavanel who gained enough King of the Mountain points going over the first three summits to take the lead in that competition. The last climb of the day really broke the peloton apart with most riders spreading along the road behind the group of contenders for the overall win who managed to keep up with each other. In the final kilometer Tour leader Stefan Schumacher lost focus for an instant, touched wheels with the rider in front of him, and went down. He was ok and soon up. A tiny mistake that probably lost him the yellow jersey. Italian rider Riccardo Ricco won the uphill sprint at the end of a gruelling climb to win the stage in 4hours 57min and 52sec. (His team uniform is yellow which is a bit confusing.) And the Yellow Jersey passed to Luxembourg's Kim Kirchen of California's Team Columbia. From: Marianne McCann
I s'pose I shouldn't be all braggy about it, but it does put a bright smile on my face to know my stuff is appreciated. 'cuz I never, ever hear anyting like dat at th' borin' place.
Big smile here for you! From: Ann Launay In summary, I hope you're all having a far better day than I am. Well, yes. Thank you. I hope the rest of your day is a lot better and there are no lasting ill effects. From: Ann Launay I'm just glad none of my neighbors were outside at the time! Ha ha reminds me of the time my friend tried to do something fancy on her motorcycle when I was on the back and we ended up on the pavement. All we could think about was getting up before anyone saw us. Seriously, I hope you are ok.

Kaimi, once again a splendid update! i love that you always have the pics. they all look so happy, it makes me smile. not too awfully long ago, i tried to jump a rather large mud puddle at a soccer event... my foot caught the slippery edge of the puddle and instead of jumping, i slipped (just like the way they show someone slipping on a banana peel in cartoons) and i landed booty first in the puddle... hands deep in the muck. bad bad i drove home alone to change, in only my skivvies. i was cold and shivering and muddy, so i had to take my clothes off. bad bad i was cute and in great shape, and wore matching undergarments, frilly ones perhaps, so it was almost a gift to the guys (don't care if they match now). my hubby thought it was delightful and makes fun of me about it to this day! LOL
