Checking in folks - /me waves.

Thank you for the good wishes re mom. Doc saw her this morning and said she had to go to the hospital. I came home briefly but will be heading back shortly. They did tests and were waiting on results. All we know so far is she has a bad leg infection.

I'm hoping there's an update further along here...but I hope all is going well with your mom... *hugs*

And now for my update on today lol. I promise I'll try to keep it pretty short.

I went to York. I've been before since Mum's fiance used to live there, but I've never had a proper look around, its always been to visit people and we've not had time to do much.
Today though, I got to see some of his fave haunts. My fave was a place called the Evil Eye.
Its a Bar which is practically hidden away. They have a store on one of the main shopping streets (which is tiny) and you have to walk through the store to get into the bar. Once you go through its like you're in another world lol.
Everything is mismatched, yet seems to fit, they have a huge range of alcohol behind the bar (I've never seen so many different bottles), and the cocktail menu is incredible. They do gorgeous food, most of which has a thai/asian flavour. Apparantly if you go upstairs they have beds which you can sit on and drink your drinks while chilling out, but I didn't go up to see.
We sat in the beer garden out back, and they've even turned a painted canoe into a bench lol. The minster was playing its bells and it was lovely to sit out with a drink and listen to it.
I was amazed that such a place was hidden in the centre of the city.

There's also a place called MilkShack. I love the place. They make milkshakes with anything you want. from skittles to toffee cheesecake. I ordered a peanut butter and banana one. I was surprised at some of the combos people were ordering though. While I was there someone ordered a Carrot Cake and Toffee Cheesecake shake....not sure about that one. :S

I can't wait to go back again, I had a great day (despite getting a pretty bad headache about lunchtime) and I love how old the place feels. Its all cobbled streets and old black and white buildings. You can see the old roman walls and it somehow seems to fit with all the traffic and tourists wandering around lol.

Neat!

Are you sure the Evil Eye is not the Leaky Cauldron? :p

Did Ghosty and I know each other as children?

I found this while going through old photos when Ghosty and I moved into this apartment months ago and put it up on the fridge. LOLZ were had all around and we kept meaning to share it with all of you. He suddenly remembered to scan it this evening. Perhaps, it was meant to be all along :p

OMG! I'm alternating between sniffling cuz it's so cute and "who believes this??" and snortling, because I'm laughing so hard.

Great photo, Elora. I'm so happy you found it, and that you shared it with us. :)

An update:

I have just returned from Damien's kitchen... aka hell hole, USA (also known as Phoenix, Arizona)

Welcome home, 3Ring...I'm glad you made it home in one piece. :)

LOL, on Phoenix. It is hot there.

The first time I visited, my friend Kit and I were headed there to visit with some relatives. It was during the summer, and we drove, at night, from San Diego to Phoenix. When we arrived in town, after midnight, it was still 90+ degrees (Fahrenheit). The next day...120. One of Kit's relatives had a standing 2 pm TENNIS game each day. I almost fainted, just thinking about it! :p There was a pool and hot tub/spa for the residents. We sat in the hot tub...practically cooking like stewing beef, and then we rolled over the wall between the tub and the pool and into the "cooler" water of the pool. lol, that was how we cooled off.

Hi guys- /me is home. Mom report- they changed her antibiotic to something stronger but they don't yet know what is causing the infection. On the bright side, she is not in an isolation ward and no one is in hazmat suits so it can't be all that bad. Her spirits were bright and she had had her dinner- but of course wants to be home. And here at home kid and I are holding down the fort - he did chores and i got the laundry going.
Going in-world for some much deserved R&R :)

Well, we do have certain rules that are valuable to people not familiar with the desert. Such as:
Do not worrying too much about losing a golf ball in the rough. (enter at your own risk)
If you step outside at night and hear the sprinkler that you do not remember turning on. DO NOT reach over to turn it off.
If you go on a even a 15 minute hike, take a lot of extra water. It is very easy to get lost.
Everything in the desert, plant or animal, has a vicious bite or sting.

Pusch Ridge, Santa Catalina mountains.

Good rules to remember!!!

But seriously, thanks, Damien.

And that's a lovely shot of Puschl Ridge.

I'm glad it sounds like your mom's infection is being controlled, at least...And yes, I'm sure she wants to be home. When you're not feeling well, you just want your own bed and your stuff around you.

Enjoy your R&R!! :)

Ok, OK. I didn't think anyone would be interested.

I drove through a frigging Monsoon to get to The Hilton, and stopped to grab some java at the Staryuck's in the Lobby. *As it was before noon, the bar wasn't open.* I was at the vendor area looking for something to get for You Know Who to sign and the power went out. It came back on a minute later, then went out again. I swear, I looked out the window and it was raining sideways, in circles, and just about any other direction. It looked like the scene in Movie #4 at Starfleet Command when the Probe arrived at earth. I even said out loud "Oh my God! The Whale Probe!" :p

The lights came back on a minute or so later and stayed on. Inside the main room, was a Q and A with Suzie Plakson, who we all know was Worf's wife K'Ehleyr as well as Dr Seylar in TNG, and Barry Jenner, who was Admiral Ross in DS9. They talked a lot about how even being a small character on Star Trek can have a lasting impact on one's career and how much they both enjoyed the experience. Suzie is just a dynamo, she is a fabulous cabaret singer as well, and is just stunning, at 6"3" with gorgeous curly red hair.
Jenner was interesting as well, he talked of how he totally botched his audition, and didn't think he'd get the part, but was absolutely thrilled when he did.

After a brief break it was time. :) Of course the room was packed, and a great video tribute was played. Nimoy came out to a thunderous ovation, did the Vulcan Salute, waited for the cheers to subside. He looked great, with his now familar scruffy beard and glasses, casually dressed. His first line was..."So, anybody seen any good movies lately?"

End of Part One.

Maybe I should have sold tickets. :p

So after a brief bit of general banter, the topic turned to the new movie. He had nothing but priase for it and everyone concerned. He thought the story concept was great, and how he felt it wrapped up his Mr Spock very well. He said he has not been contacted at all about appearing in the new movie, and doesn't expect to be either. He feels the torch has been passed, he is OK with that, and hopes we are too.

He had high praise for Zachary Quinto when asked. He said while he did not have ant approval rights, he was fully consulted on all aspects on casting of Spock, and was in total agreement when Quinto was hired. He sid they spent a lot of time together, hanging out, watching some of the episodes and discussing the role, but he said he never offered any advice, would only give it if he was asked. He seemed very excited that Star Trek was back in the public eye, refreshed and revitaized.

During the Q and A he discussed a wide range of things, from his childhood, his photography work, and some of his non Trek roles. But he emphatically stated when asked that no role means as much to him as Spock. He spoke very fondly of DeForrest Kelley, and took some good natured jabs at Shatner's commercial work: "I really admire what Bill has done. He has gone from a dashing leading man to a very fine character actor. His commercials are a riot. He'll do anything for the laugh even if it is at his expense, he'll make himself the buffoon........And he does it SO well." :p

He named a couple of his favorite episodes among them "Devil in the Dark", "City on he Edge of Forever" and "This Side of Paradise", and of course "Amok Time".

He told a funny story about seeing a woman in a car next to him a couple of days after Amok Time first aired. It was the first time the Vulcan Salute appeared, and a woman pulled up to him and did it, but not quite properly. When Nimoy pointed it out she said. "I'm sorry. I speak it with an accent".

Anyway, it was a thrill of untold proportions to be in the same room with him, only seeing The Shat could top it. He struck me as a very, very smart and thoughtful man, but also humble, who tries not to let his intelligence intimidate anybody. He has a dry and impish sense of humor, I bet in private he can be a hoot. He seems very grateful for Spock, and truly appreciates the fans at the conventions, it sounds like he goes to a lot. He will be in Vegas next week.

After that was the autograph session. Unfortunately, it was assembly line, as expected, basically a quick glance as he signed, but no matter. Next time I'm going to get the full blown Gold package, where you get a non rushed autograph and picture session with everybody.

Next Up: Klingon Komedy Kavalcade.

From: Brenda Connolly
After lunch and a couple of cocktails, and a little souvenir shopping, the next event was the First Time Ever Together and In Character appearance of Gowron and Martok, aka Robert O'Reilly and JG Hertzler. These have always been two of my favorite characters, Martok was an honorable warrior without peer, and Gowron was the typical politician who knew who to get inbed with and when.

They came out scuffling with canes all stooped over, exhorting the audience to rejuvenate them with Klingon War Cries. Once that happened, things went someplae I never expected.....they became Abbott and Costello! It was Interstellar Slapstick the rest of the way, Robin Williams in in Space. Every so often they would lapse back into "serious" mode, usually when a bit flopped, but they were a riot. O'Reilly was especially goofy, he kept referencing the TNG episode whre Data was trying to understand comedy.

There were also two Q and A's with Richard Arnold, who was a good friend and Assistant to Gene Roddenberry. I missed some of it unfortunately, but what I caught was very interesting. He gave some great insight into Roddenberry's philosophies, and on how the path Star Trek took after his death was somewhat controversial. He also touched on the DS9/B5, "Who ripped off who" discussion, as well as the general thoughts on "Voyager" or as he called it "Star Trek meets Gilligan's Island".

All in all it was a fabulous weekend. Since I didn't go on Friday I missed Marc Alaimo and Jeffrey Coombs. I also passed on the optional Saturday Night Dessert Party, with Billingsley and Trinneer. I met someone who went and they did say it was worth the extra cost. Both actors sat at each table chatting for awhile, and when they had finished, Billingsley shouted..:"I'm off the clock, let's party", and stayed until they kicked everyone out of the room.

So, I do plan on going to Vegas next year, and will dress for it, and will look to volunteer when it comes back here next year.

Connolly Out.

/me goes to work on the movie rights for this.

Please pity me. And send pie if you can.
