From: Amaranthim Talon Checking in folks - /me waves.
Thank you for the good wishes re mom. Doc saw her this morning and said she had to go to the hospital. I came home briefly but will be heading back shortly. They did tests and were waiting on results. All we know so far is she has a bad leg infection. I'm trying to send her some pink healing light. I hope everything is much better very soon.

@ LittleMe - my mom is doing great! Surgery was successful and she just finished her last round of chemo. She's bald, but happy. Doc says they got all of the cancer. Hooray!
What great news! From: Oryx Tempel @ Brenda - ... *happy sigh* I love Star Trek. Me too. Wouldn't it be great if the future were really like that?

From: Seven Okelli Oh, yeah, I'm interested!
Keep going!
. Maybe I should have sold tickets. So after a brief bit of general banter, the topic turned to the new movie. He had nothing but priase for it and everyone concerned. He thought the story concept was great, and how he felt it wrapped up his Mr Spock very well. He said he has not been contacted at all about appearing in the new movie, and doesn't expect to be either. He feels the torch has been passed, he is OK with that, and hopes we are too. He had high praise for Zachary Quinto when asked. He said while he did not have ant approval rights, he was fully consulted on all aspects on casting of Spock, and was in total agreement when Quinto was hired. He sid they spent a lot of time together, hanging out, watching some of the episodes and discussing the role, but he said he never offered any advice, would only give it if he was asked. He seemed very excited that Star Trek was back in the public eye, refreshed and revitaized. During the Q and A he discussed a wide range of things, from his childhood, his photography work, and some of his non Trek roles. But he emphatically stated when asked that no role means as much to him as Spock. He spoke very fondly of DeForrest Kelley, and took some good natured jabs at Shatner's commercial work: "I really admire what Bill has done. He has gone from a dashing leading man to a very fine character actor. His commercials are a riot. He'll do anything for the laugh even if it is at his expense, he'll make himself the buffoon........And he does it SO well." He named a couple of his favorite episodes among them "Devil in the Dark", "City on he Edge of Forever" and "This Side of Paradise", and of course "Amok Time". He told a funny story about seeing a woman in a car next to him a couple of days after Amok Time first aired. It was the first time the Vulcan Salute appeared, and a woman pulled up to him and did it, but not quite properly. When Nimoy pointed it out she said. "I'm sorry. I speak it with an accent". Anyway, it was a thrill of untold proportions to be in the same room with him, only seeing The Shat could top it. He struck me as a very, very smart and thoughtful man, but also humble, who tries not to let his intelligence intimidate anybody. He has a dry and impish sense of humor, I bet in private he can be a hoot. He seems very grateful for Spock, and truly appreciates the fans at the conventions, it sounds like he goes to a lot. He will be in Vegas next week. After that was the autograph session. Unfortunately, it was assembly line, as expected, basically a quick glance as he signed, but no matter. Next time I'm going to get the full blown Gold package, where you get a non rushed autograph and picture session with everybody. Next Up: Klingon Komedy Kavalcade.

From: Snickers Snook Inga Wind makes some very interesting things. Most of her complete outfits come with very well done shoes which is so nice. My only complaint is that her stuff is mod/xfer no copy. I'd rather it be mod/copy no xfer but oh well. There was a thread a while back about this, seems most of the designers wanted to know this kind of feedback. Worth a try, especially if you include the compliment with it. Very nice... details on the hair pretty please? @Amar: Will hold you and your family in my thoughts. @Oryx: Good to see you again, funny just the other day someone mentioned you are the August calendar woman and here you are! @Brenda: Thanks for the traveller's log. I'll probably never attend any convention in my life, so it's interesting to hear about it. @Skell, Mari, and everyone I may have missed, great pics as usual.

Maybe I should have sold tickets. I guess I never told you that I'm a Star Trek fan. Mostly of Janeway and her crew. I'd love to meet Patrick Stewart and Marina Sirtis, though. I did get to exchange pleasantries with LeVar Burton one evening - we were staying the same hotel and crossed paths in the parking lot. As you might imagine, I gushed and wowed and said "I like Reading Rainbow" and (several times) "oh, I can't believe it!" He was very nice and waited until I'd finished before running off. .

And now for my update on today lol. I promise I'll try to keep it pretty short. I went to York. I've been before since Mum's fiance used to live there, but I've never had a proper look around, its always been to visit people and we've not had time to do much. Today though, I got to see some of his fave haunts. My fave was a place called the Evil Eye. Its a Bar which is practically hidden away. They have a store on one of the main shopping streets (which is tiny) and you have to walk through the store to get into the bar. Once you go through its like you're in another world lol. Everything is mismatched, yet seems to fit, they have a huge range of alcohol behind the bar (I've never seen so many different bottles), and the cocktail menu is incredible. They do gorgeous food, most of which has a thai/asian flavour. Apparantly if you go upstairs they have beds which you can sit on and drink your drinks while chilling out, but I didn't go up to see. We sat in the beer garden out back, and they've even turned a painted canoe into a bench lol. The minster was playing its bells and it was lovely to sit out with a drink and listen to it. I was amazed that such a place was hidden in the centre of the city. There's also a place called MilkShack. I love the place. They make milkshakes with anything you want. from skittles to toffee cheesecake. I ordered a peanut butter and banana one. I was surprised at some of the combos people were ordering though. While I was there someone ordered a Carrot Cake and Toffee Cheesecake shake....not sure about that one. I can't wait to go back again, I had a great day (despite getting a pretty bad headache about lunchtime) and I love how old the place feels. Its all cobbled streets and old black and white buildings. You can see the old roman walls and it somehow seems to fit with all the traffic and tourists wandering around lol.

A terrific recap for us, Brenda - thanks much.
My son and I have talked about getting all the Star Trek movies and having a marathon movie day. Him and I really must do this soon.

I lived in North Riding back in 1969 and I just drove through the center of York one time. I remember lots of big gray stone walls.

Did Ghosty and I know each other as children? I found this while going through old photos when Ghosty and I moved into this apartment months ago and put it up on the fridge. LOLZ were had all around and we kept meaning to share it with all of you. He suddenly remembered to scan it this evening. Perhaps, it was meant to be all along

An update: I have just returned from Damien's kitchen... aka hell hole, USA (also known as Phoenix, Arizona) please, someone shoot me dead before i ever have to pass through that miserable place again. they have these things there they call trees. but they are not trees. they are either almost tall, water-deprived bushes, or puffy leaves on fat stumps (also known as palm *coff* trees - but they are not really trees. no shade can be had. i mean, seriously). and i had to drive with my A/C on in my car at all times. good thing i have an A/C. i have never used it before. LOL oh, and because i didn't know it never cools, even at night, everything in my purse melted the first night. like many wads of gum come together to form one big ball. even my lipstick drained out of its case. dammit. and yards are decorated with rocks and cacti. ingenius. Phoenix is like a dry, brittle, brown dead land that people persist on inhabiting... i don't get it. seemed only expensive resorts designed to fool tourists into coming to Phoenix with their false brochures dared to upkeep grass, so i made sure to stay near any greenery i could find. LOL they have some wacky looped freeway action going, and it took me a couple of circles around big ben before i figured out what was going on. HEY! there's Thomas Dr again. LOL i really should have invested in a map. every time i went driving i got lost. on the bright side, that is one sure way to learn a big city fast! and a marvelous realization.... every 5th corner has a Circle K mini mart. drive 5 blocks, circle K. take as many twists and turns as you want on any side street of your choice, you will always be within walking distance of a circle k. that was very convenient every time something new melted in my purse. on the good side, i spent many wonderful days with a dear friend (who has a fabulous A/C) and we had so much fun that while i couldn't wait to get the hell out of hell, i didn't want to leave. she has a 1 1/2 year old, and being with her makes me want another baby SO bad (but no way! LOL) i had the best time hanging with them, and i already miss them tons. seriously- i did a lot of evening solo sight seeing, and really discovered that some parts were actually very livable. Phoenix itself is miserable, but Mesa was very nice. And Cave Creek is a totally cool town. if i had to live near Phoenix, i would choose Cave Creek. Friday night I went to the Cave Creek Coffee Co and had some nice wine and a cheese platter, listened to a live guitarist rock the place up (he was fabulous and amazing) and i made conversation with all sorts of wonderful people. this older couple sat near me at the bar, and at first the wife was leery of my conversation with her husband, so i made sure to address her more than him - and discovered that she had a wicked sense of humor. i wanted to take her home with me. crazy old woman. to my left, was Larry. LOL he was really infatuated with my animated personality and quite determined to have all of my attention, and also wanting to know i would share my cheese plate - which i did. but i made him share his beer. LOL he was fun, good looking, and interesting, but i did not want to take him home with me. LOLOL i'm sure i will think of more things to say, but it took 12 hours of straight driving to get home, and i am exhausted. i took a few pictures of the rocks and dirt and tumbleweeds, but Damien probably doesn't want me exposing his hellish kitchen to the world, so i wont post them. they are quite uninteresting. who knew the mojave desert was so vast and desolate and hateful hot. i am so happy to be back in the land of trees, and green, and bodies of water. green things have smell. and they are soft. but now, i have to deal with reality. wish me luck. ugh.

From: 3Ring Binder who knew the mojave desert was so vast and desolate and hateful hot. It's not the heat, it's the humidity! I was in Phoenix last year in August for the first time in forever and was amazed that all the downtown hotels have mister systems outside their porte cocheres. Like walking through a muggy rain forest at times. I'm usually the outdoor type but I spent all my spare time inside. Ughhh.

Now you know why you can stay at a fancy resort during the summer for almost nothing. Most people know better than to come to this part of the country this time of year. As strange as it seems, it is almost as if the desert gets into your blood, it is hard to stay away. It has a strange, very stark beauty to it. 118? We never got above 108 here in Tucson.
