A I recall, in the fictional town of Stepford all the wives had been murdered and replaced by "perfect" robot-women. That was the book; I seem to remember a movie that wasn't very faithful to it.
In the movie, I don't remember if the wives were replaced with robots or if something was done to them to turn them into robot-like perfect wives.

I seem to remember it was a tv movie in which the wives were drugged and hypnotized into mindless "perfect" slaves for their husbands.

I thought in the original movie they were brainwashed, and in the remake they were robots? I didn't pay a lot of attention to the new one, and it's been a long time since I've seen the original.

Yeah you're right:

The second movie was more like the book.

I did not like the remake at all

ETA: Wiki says the following:
"the movie still makes it much clearer than the book that the women are being replaced by some form of robot"

and

"A made-for-TV sequel was produced in 1980, entitled Reveng of the Stepford Wives. .. In this film, instead of being gynoids, the wives undergo a brainwashing procedure and then take pills that keep them hypnotized."

and

"Yet another made-for-television sequel/remake was released in 1987 called The Stepford Children, wherein both the wives and the children of the male residents were replaced by drones. "

and

"A 1996 version called The Stepford Husbands was made as a third TV movie with the gender-roles reversed, and the men in the town being brainwashed by a crazed female clinic director into being perfect husbands."

As an additional note on the meaning of Stepford:

The term "Stepford wife" entered common use in the English language after the publication of Levin's book, and is generally used as a term of satire. It has recently been used by critics to describe Laura Bush, and Katie Holmes after her marriage to Tom Cruise. The label "Stepford wife" is usually applied to a woman who seems to conform blindly to an old-fashioned subservient role in relationship to her husband, compared to other, presumably more independent and vivacious women. It can also be used to criticise any person, male or female, who submits meekly to authority and/or abuse; or even to describe someone who lives in a robotic, conformist manner without giving offense to anyone. The word "Stepford" can also be used as an adjective denoting servility or blind conformity.

I love Wiki.

yes, this is exactly what i refer to. ppl think i am really into that stuff, so much so that i named myself after it.

*chuckles..I'm sorry this happened to you.

@teh future of teh forumz:

While I do believe Blue is as empathetic as can possibly be as a Linden, and perhaps even a bit more than he can admit to, I do not think we will get much in give back from LL. Much like Ursula, the new website communication plan is set in stone, and it is somewhat different from what i think a lot of us would like. At best we may have influnce on fine tuning what will be implemented to make it as comfortable for us as possible. I will just wait and see if that will be enough and that new forum has a tone and feel that will warrant using to any degree.

LL definitely wants a strictly controlled public face, which is understandable and acceptable. But the question is will those restrictions strangle the social and community building aspects that this forum has given to many of us. New software can always be adapted to, if it's function serves your purpose.

Wait a minute... what's all this talk about Stepford wives??? Now I'm afraid that one day in the near future I will check in here and all the women of this thread will have been replaced with bots... that will.... do anything I say? Hmm... Actually that doesn't sound all that bad. :p

Just kidding, of course. You are all perfect just the way you are.

I'll be headed home for work soon so I am signing off the forums until Monday AM when I have to come back to this office. Have a great weekend everyone. I already have a 12-pack of beer in my car and when I get home I plan on putting a pretty good dent in it. Soo... if you happen to run into me in-world tonight and I say or do something stupid, blame it on the aa---aa-aa-aa----aa-alchohol. :P

The car or the beer?
