I won't ask "what have I missed" because I already have the Good News about Lil and spike, and the rest is probably the Usual. As for me...

...I finally broke down and bought a laptop. One of those ASUS G50VT's with the hot blue flame paint job and jillions of gigastuff under the hood. Its exhaust port is hot enough to keep a slice of pizza warm.

...and just in time, too. When I returned from my travels, my desktop machine refused to boot up properly. The Geek examined it and pronounced it "Daid", probably from a RAID drive failure. He immediately set out to research and order components for a New Whizbang. I hope he gets it built fast because my passwords, my addresses, my bookmarks, my Photoshop files, and our Tax Returns are all on the main hard drive and I want them back. Meanwhile, the laptop is wired in to the big monitor and keyboard, and SL is performing as well as it did with the old desktop.

...my SL relationship came to an amicable ending. Dammit.

...I got an appointment as a Professor at Caledon Oxbridge! Yay!

...I met Dirk Talamasca in world for the first time after reading lots of his posts and chat. Mmmm, mmm.

I don't think so. According to the Guidelines, the Deans or Chancellors can kick out misbehaving Professors.

On the other hand, this is the first newcomer teaching position I've had where the Professor have eject and ban privileges. LL doesn't trust the Mentors with that, and neither do GQ Start or Help People Institute. Bravo to Carl and Des for this. (Oddly, weapons...active ones, not costume props...are restricted. What the heck, who needs them? I haz a Button o' Doom!)

Excuse me, I need to memorize the words to "Oh, Caledon" and shop for an appropriate wardrobe. The Victorian section of my closet is quite bare. Comparatively.

FWIW, in the life of Yosef ....
I seem to have survived the first two waves of layoffs and don't expect any more in my department. There is only one person between me and the CIO until restructuring is done and I am at the bottom of the food chain. I am feeling a bit vulnerable because there I have no supervisor, but it has been announced that we are at our targeted staffing levels. This is good. You know the old story about two guys out hunting when they find a bear? You don't have to out run the bear, just out run the other guy. Well, all the other guys are gone now. I still have my job and feel a lot more certian about keeping it than I have the past couple of months. I am not totaly in the clear yet, tho.

Good deal on surviving the latest job cuts.

I work for government, so minimal chance of losing my job, but we will have to take some furlough days -- first one coming near the end of this month.

Damnit - next time you take off, don't stay gone so long. Just because I am off the market, does not mean you are not needed. There are other ladies here that need your attention -- like Lindal.
