I'm a big fan of Thurgood Marshall especially since I saw a long documentary on him on tv about 10 years ago in the middle of the night when I was sick.

Only my women must be exceptional; everything else can be just A-OK. :)
You and Elora are such a pleasure to have around.

Mmm! Actually I think this sounds a bit more appetizing to English speakers:

Our neighborhood donut shop, operated by Southeast Asian immigrants is widely held to be the best in the county. Lately I've been going down there on Saturday mornings with one of my grandchildren - he orders colored sprinkles and I get a glazed.

who remembers Winchell's Donuts?
*Raises hand* Fond memories.

From: Maureen Boccaccio
/me raises a hand. When I lived in San Diego, there was one within striking distance. It was part of our Disneyland trek ritual, stopping at Winchells before getting on the freeway. :)
Before Winchells we had Heavenly doughnuts - this was in the late 50's 'till I don't remember when it closed. It was also one of the first drive-throughs and as you drove through you drove past about 15meters of huge windows looking in on the doughnuts being made. By the time you got to the order window you wanted 5 dozen. It was on the corner of West Point Loma and Midway - there was a drive-in movie behind it then.

NOT home... I am slaving away at the office. But I will see if there is a decent camera to be had at lunchtime.

Look, I am a little slow at gadgetry. It too me a long time before I used a fax machine, and the camera I have at home uses film. My cell phone is just a phone. My VCR uses tapes.

I'm not a... what is it... one of those people who don't like technology... can't remember the word. I'm just a late adopter.
Luddite. If you can swing it I'd love to see a picture.

Oh no....the corner of West Point Loma and Midway....that is dangerously close to the dreaded Sports Arena area...the one place on earth (where I've been) that I just cannot navigate. I swear I have a mental block regarding that spider web of streets. My best friend Kit's job is in that neck of the woods and for the longest time, whenever I would meet her after work, I'd get lost. :o

This was particularly amusing to others, as under normal circumstances I have a keen sense of direction.

Lol That donut shop opened before there was a sports arena. Now Sports Arena Blvd is part of the same intersection. It's the other end of Midway and Sports Arena at Rosecrans that I like to avoid - the traffic is just always awful.

3Ring, I'll keep working on coming up with the name of that town. Yosef would most likely have better suggestions for west Texas than I would. Depending on what part of west Texas you are in there are some obvious choices that may interest you, like the Cadillac Ranch, Palo Duro Canyon (panhandle area) or further south the Marfa Lights. I'm sure I can come up with a few more suggestions depending on your interest. If you're in to glutony at all there's a place in Amarillo that offers a 72 ounce steak. I think it's free if you can eat it in an hour.

Just across the border in New Mexico I highly recommend Calsbad Caverns. Although it's not in Texas I'm obliged to point out that it was discovered by a Texan. :D

thanks. i'll jot them all down and see if any fit on my map lines. :D
the place i was trying to remember was Goodson’s Café in Tomball, TX.
/me does not keep tabs on Yosef. i hope he is fine.

Those things are dangerous!!

They sneak up on you, or jump on you from the trees without you even knowing.

Then they crawl up your pant leg & into your urethra, where they work their way to your chest cavity to lay thousands of eggs.

Several days later you start having chest pains, then the cracking sound of your sternum as your chest explodes and thousands of pygmy marmosets burst forth .

I saw it on Discovery Channel! Honest!!!

Good eye! If I were a rich landbaron, I'd have the creator of both set them up (and the VFW hall) in Bay City somewhere.
