/me now has the GeForce 8600GT installed on my computer and totally gets what all the cool windlight talk has been about.

i had the 6500 before, and could enjoy windlight at a price - turn every slider to full and i could see what windlight was. but then it was like walking through mud - every other fps. LOL

now, my settings are all still at the lowest settings and i can view SL with those great water/sky/reflection features.

very cool.

The sudden news about Chris and his health status and subsequently leaving our family, put a sad note on it however. He is a good friend of mine, and has been there for me (and many others as we all well know) in many ways since I've arrived here.

I am heart-broken over this news and will be trying to get in touch with him privately. I'm hopeful that he'll give me some more in depth info, but concerned that he is too ill to have the wherewithall to muster the strength to do so :(

My best wishes go out to Feline too. Being involved with someone in this environment is difficult enough at times, but when they take ill to this degree the complications are enhanced.

:( :( :( OMG! i have no idea what has happened with Chris, but i will send prayers and well wishes.

I upgraded to the 7300 GT some time ago ... from the 5300 I started with. :/ It's a beautiful world, isn't it? :D

how do I get 'attached'?
(That's about land, you perverts! :o ) The parcels don't have to be touching, just in the same sim, as in this case. It's usually pretty easy: just turn on View / Parcel borders and cam back so you can see a bit of both pieces to be joined, Edit terrain, and select a rectangle that includes a bit of both, then Join. (Caveat: I've never gotten this to work if I'm also a member of a group that owns any other parcel in the selection.)

Note that you don't need to combine the parcels in order to get the prim count benefit. But it does make it easier to manage parcel settings if there's just one parcel. And speaking of parcel settings: these days, the settings of the largest parcel being joined "wins"--mostly; it seems to always reset auto-return to 0, even if both parcels had auto-return set to the same non-zero value.

And... just downloaded the new RC and tried to replicate my windlight settings as I had used before - now everything has a yellow cast :(
Yeah, but go to a busy, texture-rich sim, or try driving around the Mainland: image loading is *much* faster in RC 6. Yay! :)

Ok- well- the small one shows 69 prims and is not included in the count of the main parcel. When I have tried to join the two parts like that- and it covers parcels in between that are not owned by me- i get that message about cannot join parcels...
Re the windlight- yes its faster- but it sux for picture taking cause i am jaundiced :(

Heh! I've been using an 8800GTS and have run Windlight since it came out. 30-80 FPS, loving every minute of it. Never had a problem.

But then I also know a guy who still runs a Pentium 3 and complains how his computer "sucks" and the graphics are "horrible" and it can't run modern games. ;)

.....we had an amusing thing happen. Ghosty saw some noob go into the house next door. He cammed in and saw him go into their bathroom, and sit on the bowl

So, he sent him an IM "Don't forget to wipe!"

The guy IM'd back: "LOL"

At least he had a sense of humor about using someone elses home to go to the bathroom :p

Oh Maureen, thank you! Both of us didn't take pix. Between Ghosty being preoccupied with the party, and me not having everything rezzing properly (1/2 of the people never completely came into view until late in the evening - I didn't dare take a photo), we have nothing of the evening :(
