I think too, Mo- that what some may perceive as flirting is really just conversation on some level. When Yosef states he pays compliments to people, I don't think that is flirting, that is appreciation of something that you like about a person. I could look at your profile (avid profile reader) and comment directly to you re something that caught my attention- is that flirting? Depends on the accompanying subtext and what response I get back. Then it could become flirting or just social banter. Hmm- come to think of it- that determines it perhaps- the response and the concurrent follow up.. maybe flirting isn't flirting unless it develops? Flirting, too, I think needs a hint of subtlety - before it falls into seduction- at which point all bets are off  That one just leads us down the path of trying to tell the players with out a score card and as such, an entirely too heady a subject for our silly Thread.

Flirtation is suggestive, might or might not go any further, and should definitely occur before seduction is attempted. Though sometimes we might move from flirtation to seduction very very quickly, usually flirtation is a longer process - a part of the chase, so to speak. Flirtation is usually more playful, while seduction is more erotic - though there is sometimes overlap there. With me, flirtation is sometimes just for fun and sometimes done with the intent of determining if there is enough mutual interest to consider seduction.
I'm not really sure that explains it fully, as it seems to be somewhat difficult to put into words.

I like light hearted arguing and teasing as a way of flirting. BUT I was once talking to this guy and we were going back and forth in IM and I thought we were playing. I told him to leave me alone and he kept IMing me. Then all of a sudden, he muted me. I thought we were playing and flirting - he did not. Obviously to him, he was really being rude and thought I was too. On the other hand, with someone who gets the playful banter flirting, regular flirting can be lost on them. If you start with the regular touchy feely lirting stuff, they can think that you just are being nice and sweet - and end up thinking you are just friends. THEN, to add one more observation into the mix - I like the direct approach the best. Receiving and Giving: "Hey, I like you and think you are hot." LOL All in all, I think that flirting is very complex! LOL |

I admire Trout's ability to sort through all those pics of people, some of whom he has probably never met, and empathize with them enough to give each their own individual rateing. Each receives their own, personalized flirtation.
And I, in a sense, just flirted with Trout.

Ugh, flirting in SL. I am terrible at it. When people flirt with me at all - which is very, very, very rare - they are almost always male avatars, and I just have no idea how to respond. It's not that it's necessarily unpleasant, but I never know what to say in response. And I generally can't flirt with female avatars either because the only time I want to is when I am truly interested and then I am too nervous to do it.  No wonder everyone looks at blue madhu like she's their big sister ...
