Ok here we go again. Anyone test the new version? I sure hope it runs better.

I personally saw no difference in performance. Same major issue plagues me and my system surrounding running SL with some massive sudden memory spike about 10-25 mins into using the client which in turn brings my entire rig to a grinding halt until I am forced to manually dump the SL client and start again....

Unfortunately it's going to bad, and since it's going to require a viewer update you can't just click continue like many of you (and me) have been doing since the last majorly flawed release. Looks like LL is taking on Microsoft to have the buggiest software ever.

Well, I'm using First Look right now, does that mean I will be likely to succeed with this?

Be patient, sl software whatever client or server-side is very complex, I believe LL try best to improve and fix it. but i don't still like LL's support system, nonstandard.

I have a very bad feeling about tomorrow.

I finally downloaded the new, optional viewer on Friday and immediately started crashing. Bad crashes, too, not just my SL client but also my whole computer freezing up and requireing a hard boot. So I updated drivers (which weren't outdated) and cut back preferences, but still kept crashing. Reverted to 1.13 version and was fine all weekend long.

I know from reading this forum that I'm not the only one who had to revert to 1.13, just as I suspect that many people just refused to download the optional viewer at all. Which means that whole block of users will hit the wall on Wednesday.

I don't have an outdated computer system or graphics cards. I built my desktop system in *November* specifically to run SL, which wouldn't work on my old laptop. I may not have a cutting-edge graphics cards, but it's well within specs, along with a good processor, gaming motherboard and 2gb of RAM. I've been running SL really well even when a lot of other people can't, and basically only had to suffer with a bit of lag.

The First Look viewer worked for me as well, but the major release of it didn't.

Have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to tomorrow?

This new update tomorrow may just end it for many...........but maybe that's what LL wants. Seems that way anyway.

We might see a new set of playablity specs for this game. Its has killed off alot of older computers users. Now we will see what this next update does. even the amd x2 and intel dual cores have been hit hard on sl.

They very well could specs themselves right out of business. Cutting edge is great..but you have to remain within the limits of the people who will use that cuttting edge stuff.

I don't think they fully understand that part.

I can't help but think that SL would run a lot better if they just left the client alone and focussed all their resources into sorting out the servers. I don't think anyone ever complained that the pie-menu wasn't fancy enough or they didn't have real time mirrors.

I'd be happy with a much simpler viewer as long as it worked.

"IF" Llabs had the resources to keep a stable complex UI and 5 millions avies. I would agree. But LLabs Doesnt and can`t do it, hence untill LLabs figure out they can`t be a cheap skate anymore and start paying out for better and more reliable hardware. We are al in deep poo, after one year of total nightmarish client releases many are edge of leaving.

Bleeding EDGE tech they say what sl is? Well they are right! You bleed each time the coders screwup! I laugh each time people refers to SL as Bledding edge! :p its just shows you how much these so called experts are about VR.....UI on sl is nothing but white glue and tooth picks Bleeding edge HAHHAHA yea right!

I've got a mac powerbook and the latest 14 has been working fine for me. In the past I've had real problems but this version seems to like me. I only crash when I search inventory before it's loaded, and sometimes when I toggle to full screen. And sometimes when I teleport. And sometimes while editing. I know it sounds bad but compared to 13.0 it's heaven...I only had my shoe up my ass once yesterday.

good luck tomorrow everyone. I'd hate to see more people go. It's getting awfully quiet in there.

I have stuck with 1.13, but as with Nina the past couple of days have simply been unbearable. The client simply hangs after 10 minutes or less, every single time. Double teleporting leaves me unable to move at my destination, I'm waiting to get banned from all the sandboxes because of all the half built stuff that's been left behind when I crash, I simply can't build reliably.. I have to hope the new version is an improvement

12PM (in the USA) is "noon/mid day" not Midnight.
We call midnight 12AM.

For me, the only client I've been able to stay running in for any length of time is; Second Life 1.13.3 (57876) Feb 9 2007.

That is either the 2nd or 3rd ever published release of the First Look client. It is by far the least buggy and most stable. I can sometimes get up to 8 hours of continuous run on it if I stay on my island. If I leave it and go out onto the mainland, it varies sometimes as little as an hour between relogs, sometimes I can get a few hours out of it. This is much better than either of the current released clients at no more than 15 mins max between relogs.

If it comes down to forcing us to no longer be able to use it, and I've already been all over the new client on the test grid, it may very well be the end of me spending any length of time in SL, or be forced to use my older rig again. :(

Todays Update
04-25-2007 06:03
I havn't been able to use the so called optional "update" since it came out day one. My system is a one year old Dell Dimensions with a Pentium 4 @ 3.20GHz with 1.75 GB Ram and a Radeon X600 Video card (a 256 Ram card) so i wouldn't call it antiquated. It runs Doom3, Half-Life2 and Far Cry all at max. graphics without so much as a burp, which are all pretty graphics intensive games. I also played WoW for awhile with my hubby without a hitch... its only this so called updated 14 that gives me the error message "settings (something)"... it flashes so fast i can't even read it... and won't even load the log on screen.

Well if the lindens want to eliminate users fine but i swear i'll sue them in Ga. small claims court for the remainder of my prefered account, my land use fees and my land costs, and contact every media source that will so much as accept an email or snail mail from me if i'm locked out come tomorrow! I suggest other do the same. This crap is rediculous. As per others who commented here I agree... stop with the damn so called upgrades and bring your server hardware into the 20th centry lindens. Spend some of the huge profits your getting to really "upgrade" SL and quit treating us users like 9 year olds! Yea I'm pissed, after investing almost 9 months of my time and money building a business and making friends now sitting here not knowing if I'll be able to use what I've ALREADY paided to use!
