FUBAR -- I won't go there, but it happens to scripts, models, and textures from time to time.

I always thought FUBAR stood for F**ked Up Beyond All Recognition, and is one of my favourites.. as is SNAFU - Situation Normal, All F**ked Up
I wonder why i used those so often in SL??? Imogen _____________________

Imogen That's the backronym that was assigned later, to make sense of the word. Kinda like SOS, which also doesn't originate in the english language and got a dozen backronyms attached later... everything from "send out someone" over "survivors on ship" to "save our souls / skins / sailors". _____________________

I'm learning a few things here about prims, but for a guy theres not many good prim hair styles available. I've actually settled on a freebies called dirty biker lol, but with a little editing it looks really good. I may have to learn how to make my own, is it difficult?

FUBAR means "F'ed up beyond all repair" or "F'ed up beyond all recognition" --they didn't just use this in WWII, they used it in Vietnam a lot too. Which, consequently, is when SNAFU was developed.
I'm not sure about this backronym thing, but I'm pretty sure you can call FUBAR an acronym. I know it wasn't an internetism, but I though it related to SL quite a bit. ![]() _____________________

Actually, Gor is not short for anything. Gorean is simply the adjectivized version of Gor. There were a series of Gor books written in the 1970s - Captive of Gor, Slave Girl of Gor, Outlaw of Gor, etc - which set the stage of counter-earth and the Gorean society. Just to help clarify, since you make a good point - becase I dont think Tod is the only one who didnt know: Gor is the name of the Planet that is hidden from Earth becuase it has an exactly opposite revolution around the sun. Hence "Counter-Earth" in the astrometric sense rather than the metaphorical one, although that happens as well. Gor was orignally in a different solar system and it was transported using the Priest Kings' (alien Incect people) amazing gravity control technology to Counter-Earth Orbit. so a Gorean is "from Gor" like an Earthling is "From Earth" On Earth of course "Goreans" are either a subset of the D/S subculture that likes to live out the fantasy of living on Gor - to the extent they treat their RL women like sex slave. Or "Goreans" are the subset of the ONLINE D/S subculture that likes to live out the fantasy of living on gor - with people acting like sex slaves, warriors, etc. |

i reckon the whole gor thing is a means to justify sexual perversion.
not that i am against perversion and such. i just dont see a need to dress it up as one thing or another. |

Nah on SL the Gor thing is largely an excuse for college aged boys to play truly lame video games with the prize being the cyber-sexual services of bored housewives. One of the reasons those who take Gor more seriously often leave, Or actively disagree with the first group. |

How exactly do you define perversion? An evolutionary anthropologist might call the equal, monogamous relationship we favor today a perversion of nature, while a D/s relationship could be considered normal for a primate and herd animal... it's all a matter of perspective. _____________________

well i use the term loosely defining what i suppose is unconventional sexual practice (unconventional by todays western standards). its not meant so much as a judgement as it is an acknowledgement that the practice is not typically engaged in by the average person.
How exactly do you define perversion? An evolutionary anthropologist might call the equal, monogamous relationship we favor today a perversion of nature, while a D/s relationship could be considered normal for a primate and herd animal... it's all a matter of perspective. i hope that isnt directed at me! i dont mean to bash gor but i think its a bit silly. if someone is into bdsm thats all great and im not offended or whatnot, but the whole roleplay element of it seems dorky to me. its not offense, ppl can age-play, rape-play, etc i couldnt care less (i am not a moralist). but introducing sword&sorcery and all that jazz... why do most of the posts have to somehow turn to bashing gor or bashing bdsm lifestyles? if you dont like it ignore it and dont go to places that encourage it |
