I thought I would post this here because whilst not exactly a question I feel it does pose a few.

The only question I got outta it was "why aren't other people jes like me?" I can't much help you on dat. Everyone on here has their own way of approaching the world, and while we can't always see eye to eye, I've found the best way is to jes respect that it is what it is.

I don't understand Goreans an all that, but I know a lotta folks dun understand me. Really, you don't hafta. Jes respect that I have a space here is all.

From the tone of your comments here, though, I kinda suspect you have an issue with that, an expect a lotta respect for your way of looking at stuff, while not really respectin' that of others. I mean, jes cuz someone on here is not talking to you because of the caste-based RPing they might be doin is no reason to make comments about their lack of brains.

Besides, lack of brains is the zombie RPing, I think. :-)

Did Thumper really say the "If you can't say something nice..." line? It's been ages since I've seen Bambi, it always makes me cry uncontrollably.

Oh, me too! There's also a bit of Dumbo dat gets me ev'rytime. Lion King too. But ya, Thumper did say it. Here's the quote:

Thumper: He doesn't walk very good, does he?
Mrs. Rabbit: Thumper!
Thumper: Yes, mama?
Mrs. Rabbit: What did your father tell you this morning?
Thumper: [clears throat] If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all.

It's pretty common wisdom, though. I've heard it a lotta times, an not jes in Bambi.

I wonder if it's too early to make popcorn.

Ooh! Can I have some too, Misses Connolly?

Did Thumper really say the "If you can't say something nice..." line? It's been ages since I've seen Bambi, it always makes me cry uncontrollably. As far as the Popcorn goes I make it one way: Salty and Buttery (real butter, none of that healthy crap). And Coke is the beverage of choice. So if this doesn't meet with your dietary preferences, I'm afraid you are on your own. Sorry.

Oooh, I love using real butter on the popcorn! Only way I make it anymore. The margarine just makes the popcorn soggy, unlike the real deal. And Coke will do, oh yes. Battery acid to cure the "Mommy got son's bug" morning throat! Bonus for the caffeine!

I dunno about the quote. Bambi's mother's death doesn't phase me, but my brain wanders off after the first three seconds of watching. And it doesn't help that I'm a computer junkie.

Ah, I see, so you do lead by example. So I guess when your kids do something you think is wrong, you just say "I wonder how you and your little sister function while sharing only half a brain between the two of you." Way to go mom. I pity your children, and I hope the parents of the children you 'care' for are aware of your idea of 'teaching'. I certainly wouldn't want somebody with as little self constraint as you go within ten yards of any child of mine.

Of course opinions on proper childcare are really besides the point in this situation. These people you are ranting about are not children, let alone children you should be educating. Why are you ranting about these people? What is your problem?

Her problem is intolerance of others. That is about as "rude" as you can get in my opinion - particularly in SL.

And as a fellow English person I am ashamed of her rudeness towards Americans. She must be bringing up a nice little brood of xenophobic, self-righteous children. And this woman works in childcare?

Even in RL you do not have the choice to dictate your worldview of what is right upon others PixiePlumb. If your child walks up to another child in the playground and says "hello", only to be greeted by silence; do you get your little righteous dear to write an indignant letter to its mother??!!

I hope Master gave the sub a very special present for refusing to speak to a rude intolerant woman such as you! ;)

He called himself a vampire, I didn't. I said he wasn't one. And there is simply no excuse for rudeness. As for the whole gor/silks/training shite, well, those are what we grown ups call pixels. They're not real. She isn't 'in training' she's probably a fat bloke in Arkansas!!
I don't have to respect anything unless it is deserving of respect. Virtual sexplay is not.

If it's nothing but "pixels" why are you upset by how pixels treat your pixels?

I agree, there's no need for rudeness. Not talking is not rude. She may have been having technical issues or may just have been having a bad day and remained silent rather than spout off with something "rude".

IMing her Master with the response you sent was rude. If I had recieved such an IM I probably would have ARed you for harassment/rudeness.

And no, you don't have to give respect. However, if you want respect it is earned through respect. Whatever another's views are, yours are no better/worse. She and her Master did not "force" their RP onto you. You chose to become involved of your own free will. That you didn't like it meant you should have just left it, but you chose to try to "force" your own views upon them.

In short; your entire disposition smacks of hypocricy.

Or to quote on of my favorite quotes: "We are all born into this world crying. Some of us have gotten over it."

How shoudl one be insulted anymore by someone's silence (as RP) than perhaps a verbal affectation such as usign Pirate Speak, or "elder" English. or what have you.

I think it all gets back to the two basic rules:

1. Don't offend Other People
2. if you are Other People don't be easily offended

I have several relationships be they slave/sub or whatever inworld. At times I have directed them to not speak either to certain persons, or without me being present. These may have been standing directives or for a period. And what be the harm? Not everyone wants to talk to you anyway.

Perhaps, someone will not speak to you because they don't like your AV's appaearance, or hair or eye color. Perhaps they are not even at the keyboard or paying any attention. Perhaps they are shopping and focussed on working the camera to see all that there is to see in the shop. hell, if I am in a store in real world, I don't necessarily expect people to talk to me. And as for parenting I teach my children not to talk to strangers... There are many reasons that one might not respond to conversation in open channel. And if a person is not allowed, by RP or some other reason to chat IM, I think one should respect that. The mere fact that it was in her profile should be considered a courtesy so that you know she is not just ignoring you.

#1 I am not your honey. Who said anything about Disney?

#2 We had this discussion last week on these forums.

#3 We are not talking about children, we are talking about adults. As a small child I played Cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers, and army. At the ripe old age of 10 I would regularly take a real firearm out to the creek for some totally non adult supervised target shooting. Now at the age of 38, I have never killed anyone, never had the desire to kill anyone. But according to your theories of child care, I should be a homicidal manic now.

#4 You throw around "fat bloke from Arkansas" like it is some kind of insult. What does that make you? A bored housewife form Cornwell with bad teeth and delusions of grandeur?

I LOVE Gorean popcorn! But when you get it stuck in your teeth you have to IM your master and beg them to let you remove it. All my fat friends in Arkansas love it too!

I've never seen Bambi. And after clerking in the Disney option when the stock was splitting every other G.D. week, I'd just as soon kick Mickey in the nuts as look at him. I've heard the phrase though.

The mystery of that phrase is easily solved. It has an existence outside of Bambi. It was not invented by Disney, it was around before that. Googling it once already turns up references from the 19th century. Just because a saying is used in a cartoon, doesn't make that saying a 'cultural reference' to that cartoon. I guess our British pixie was just a little to busy insulting American culture to recognize the quote for what it was. Either that, or her personal frame of reference just relies heavily on cartoons.

...So I said 'Hey, the C is over here'. No answer. So I said, 'Hello? the chair with C is here'. No answer.
...
So I said, 'Never mind, there'll be more'. No answer.
...
So I clicked on her profile. AHA!! Yes, she does speak English. (only English, so it says) But it also says 'do not IM me, you will not get an answer. My master will IM you'. Nothing about polite conversation though. So this got me thinking. Obviously she was very rude to ignore me. She was out in a public place, and her profile actively encourages people to visit various places, with which she is connected, to dance.

Thought problem: You're arriving at a play. You take a seat in the front row. On stage is your uncle. He's wearing a Hard Rock Cafe: Cornwall T-shirt. You wave at him. He doesn't wave back.

Is he being rude?

Since when are people REQUIRED to answer you when spoken?

-------------------
Please! That rule doesnt even apply in real life. Specially if someone is trying to lecture you - ignoring them is probably the best course.

Online, theres a bunch of reasons why someone might not respond to someone. AFK, semi AFK, lost in IMS, tabbed out surfing the forums, etc.

The Original Poster needs more friends evidently if she gets all upset over being ignored by one person.

Here is a better question.

Pixie leaves Cornwall using her flying umbrella at a speed of 60 knots. Her uncle is riding a train from London traveling at 45 KPH. Which one of them is a Gorean Vampire?

No need to be insulted, the Lindens haven't posted anything stupid on the blog in a few days. So some of us are going through argument withdrawal.

Oh, I meant by the bashing and ignorant commentary (which really just basically amuses me anyway). The rest of you crack me up :D

I'm not very easily offended. It takes a lot of work. Most of the time I just shrug it off if it's deliberately aimed at me, and if it isn't, well... what's to be offended by?
