From: Conifer Dada Talking to strangers is not a universally accepatble thing in RL and this is probably reflected in SL. In UK it's increasingly seen as something done by social misfits with mental health problems or by the elderly who have an involuntary reflex of commenting on the weather! So I conclude that all those SL-ers who say 'bad lag here today' must be over 65!!!LOL Umm .. moderator? please delete my thread 'Glue or regulation'!!

From: Chris Norse #1 I am not your honey. Who said anything about Disney?
#2 We had this discussion last week on these forums.
#3 We are not talking about children, we are talking about adults. As a small child I played Cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers, and army. At the ripe old age of 10 I would regularly take a real firearm out to the creek for some totally non adult supervised target shooting. Now at the age of 38, I have never killed anyone, never had the desire to kill anyone. But according to your theories of child care, I should be a homicidal manic now.
#4 You throw around "fat bloke from Arkansas" like it is some kind of insult. What does that make you? A bored housewife form Cornwell with bad teeth and delusions of grandeur? #1 You quoted Thumper's mother from Bambi. It's not my fault you don't recognise your own cultural references. Sugarpie! #2 Did we? #3 Well, you said it first. #4 It is an insult. Durr. And it's Cornwall. You don't have to know geography, but can't you read? I'm not bored and my teeth are fine. Thank you for your concern. Sweety.

From: Suzy Hazlehurst And yet another insult. I hope you don't teach your kids by example.
Oh, and I've just taken the liberty to correct your following statement:
You're very welcome, I assume you didn't mean to sound completely ignorant when it comes to the different views held by childcare professionals and others more likely to have expertise in adult psychology. My statements need no correction from you. But you gave me a good laugh, so thanks!

If she was indeed in rp, and my guess is she was, she was told not to talk to anyone. I've been in that scene and I often told my subs not to speak to anyone outside the home. It's rp, and consentual...so get over it...

I teach my children that sometimes we have to say that some actions are wrong. If that is taken as an insult to a person who's behaviour is wrong, well, so be it. My statement stands and is correct. Thanks for the laugh though!

He he, the Disney thing threw me too. Yes the girl may be a "Fat Bloke from Arkansas" just as much as you, as a self professed Childcare Professional could be a Fat 60 year Nanny pushing a pram. I see this thread getting very ugly. I wonder if it's too early to make popcorn.

I quoted my mother, last I checked she wasn't named Thumper. Scroll back thru the forum pages, numerous threads on which vision will rule SL, the one of those who like freedom or those who like to tell others what to do. I think I know which camp you are in. As for the misspelling, I have a medical condition, and sometimes my hands don't do exactly what I tell them to do. What do you do in your "childcare" job, wrap the little dears in bubble wrap and make them sit quietly while you tell them how to think? I would pick Arkansas over England any day of the week. But then I prefer to be a free citizen to a subject of the realm.

You're so affected. *points and judges* Oh hey, wait a second. If I recognized the quote, what does that make me....? *stops for self reflection; realizes that pompous and ignorant is a much much better approach and returns to pointing and judging*

My statement stands and is correct. Thanks for the laugh though! What behavior do you classify as wrong? If you mean not answering you, I'll give you that,on the grounds of rudeness. But if you are saying 2 adults roleplaying consensually and not bothering anyone is wrong, then maybe a lesson on tolerance should be in the next curriculum.

I would also have found this behaviour in a public place to be rude and inconsiderate - but it takes all sorts to make a Metaverse - and I honestly cannot think of anything you can do about it that would help all parties involved. On my own land I feel I have the right to stipulate certain standards of behaviour that are my standards - but not anywhere else. So, I can sympathise with Pixie - but chalk it up to experience. BTW - the weather in the UK is very bad for the time of year.....

From: Pixieplumb Flanagan I teach my children that sometimes we have to say that some actions are wrong. Ah, I see, so you do lead by example. So I guess when your kids do something you think is wrong, you just say "I wonder how you and your little sister function while sharing only half a brain between the two of you." Way to go mom. I pity your children, and I hope the parents of the children you 'care' for are aware of your idea of 'teaching'. I certainly wouldn't want somebody with as little self constraint as you go within ten yards of any child of mine. Of course opinions on proper childcare are really besides the point in this situation. These people you are ranting about are not children, let alone children you should be educating. Why are you ranting about these people? What is your problem?

From: Pixieplumb Flanagan Like green vegetables and regular check ups? No, she was rude. She was in a public place and all she had to do was say 'I don't want to talk' or even 'I am not permitted to talk'. As I said, in private they may do as they please. She was in public. She wore no label or group tag to indicate her state of feeble muteness. Like I said, probably 'she' is a fat bloke in Arkansas, and her 'master' is likely a spotty teenager in his parents' basement. Isn't SL great!! Oh for.. Look, not everyone in Arkansas is fat males, thank you. Some of us actually are rather nicely shaped females. Geeze. My problem with a lot of my fellow RPers is the fact that there is indeed a time and place for role playing. Obviously, you are not a role player or you'd have politely reminded her that the area you were in would be considered OOC and nothing IC can take place unless by IM. While in trying to be helpful, you also placed yourself in the wrong, by taking another to task for being neglectful of their manners. This person is NOT your child and you are not paid to take care of them either. You crossed decency lines for taking them to task for something you seemed to have forgotten by that point. And it is also considered impolite to bring in a third party, proceed to tell them that what they indulge in is completely wrong because it's not 'real.' There was a lot better way to handle this, if you still felt the need to explain manners to someone who simply didn't care. But.. eh.. screw that. Where's the popcorn again? I hadn't had any breakfast yet, nor coffee.

Did Thumper really say the "If you can't say something nice..." line? It's been ages since I've seen Bambi, it always makes me cry uncontrollably. As far as the Popcorn goes I make it one way: Salty and Buttery (real butter, none of that healthy crap). And Coke is the beverage of choice. So if this doesn't meet with your dietary preferences, I'm afraid you are on your own. Sorry.

However, you did look at her profile, saw "Master" and after reading that you should've shrugged and walked away. Instead you come here ranting about it and throwing insults like there's no tomorrow. Maybe you need some education? Just a thought... Mandy C

From: Brenda Connolly Did Thumper really say the "If you can't say something nice..." line? It's been ages since I've seen Bambi, it always makes me cry uncontrollably. I've never seen Bambi. And after clerking in the Disney option when the stock was splitting every other G.D. week, I'd just as soon kick Mickey in the nuts as look at him. I've heard the phrase though. I wonder if people who quote Thumper (or recognize it as a quote from a rabbit) are saying they disagree with everything vampiric or gorean, but are pro-furry? Or shouldn't I read into it that far?
