This gives an explicit example of the of the value of brand identification.

I doubt this will be the last high profile site and name that sells for far beyond
the commonly recognized price in SL.

Ok, if it sold for $50K, can it seriously be back up for sale for a current high bid of $56?
(Note there is no "K" at the end of that dollar amount).

I'd pay at least $57 for it.

But seriously, if Stroker really gets that money, it's the best real estate coup since my grandfather sold the Brooklyn Bridge to Henny Tigelhoff in 1944.

It is a brand new account who has never sold anything before, but it is in the Netherlands. This is starting to get good...

This totally doesn't make sense...who buys for $50000 and sells for $56! Unless it was $L so about $187 USD...

I'm going to go to Amsterdam and see who owns the island tomorrow on About Land.

err there is like 1 and a half days left the bidding war at the end has not yet started the sim is not sold. Ebay auctions dont get heated until like the last 15 minutes or so of the auction hehe although I am not sure but if i were him I would have put a reserve price on it but its not sold yet. Maybe I misread but it looks to me like people are under the impression it sold for 56 usd ?

I agree

Stroker sold it for 50,000 USD .... the transfer for Amsterdam hasn't even gone through yet, so tech. Amsterdam is still Strokers until it does.

Good grief. What an outrageous amount of money for what really isn't anything spectacular. I guess it's the same as that space station from Project Entropia that sold for silly money too ... people lose all sense of proportion when using Ebay.

The Amsterdam sim sold for $50,000.00

$50,000 sure could have been put to better use such as ohhhh, maybe donating it to cancer research.

Talk about fools and money...

Kudos to Stroker for the great description on the auction page. An hour of creative writing netting him a small fortune. Nice.

Well, not exactly... According to eBay members register, this is a 2 years and 9 months old zero feedback account from Netherlands, which is rather strange. Maybe he/she managed to save some Euros in the meantime for that specific purchase. :D

Amsterdam only the beginning..

This is a historic day, whether it's a good day or not - not sure. This will only pick up, what's next Dublin? Of course, maybe we'll get some more SIM development out of this - Rome, London, Moscow, Bangkok, who knows? But things will change...

With this much money to be made, I would think that elaborate theme builds are going to be well worth setting up and auctioning off. I doubt if we will see this price again though...

Hopefully whoever gets a contract to build these island sims will hire SL residents to help build them. I can hoist a prim or two and know how to texture a side...hire me!

Maybe we need journeymen and apprentice builders now, etc.

I'm stunned by this but at least it makes my hanging out in SL and buying so much land to play with appear to have a practical point...must tell patient husband right away!

No offense, but get your rubber ducky and jump in the sea....the boat has long left, and your a little late, trading of SL items on eBay has been around for quite some time, clothing, buildings, sims etc have been sold in the past so this is nothing new. What sucks is that now everyone will jump on board flooding it with listings, as a result the average amount of items a seller now sells per day will drastically be reduced.

The few that produce a product that is in demand and of high quality will continue to be successful, the very rare idiot will still continue to buy something that is already offered for free in world because of an anxiety attack:D

Anyone know if New New york is still being constructed I'm at work right now so I can't figure it out for myself, Thanks!

There is already a wonderful Dublin sim which is getting ready to expand to four sims.

Amsterdam - The facts
03-30-2007 06:58
I'm one of Stroker's estate managers and I've spent a lot of time in amsterdam.

Yes Amsterdam was listed on Ebay and was sold as stated. This was followed by a "scam" listing that used the text and photos from the original listing. I, and probably several others reported it to Ebay and the listing was quickly pulled.

The transfer of Amsterdam to the new owners hasn't happened yet, but I imagine it will happen in the next few days and the sim will no longer be part of the Eros estate. I have no idea what the new owner's plans are for the sim.

As for the price paid, as with all auctions something is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it. In the case of Amsterdam, it's not just a great build but the name and traffic are part of the value.

I believe that LL no longer allow sims to be named the same as RL cities, and for most Europeans Amsterdam is a natural fun meeting place, partly due to the adult attractions on offer. So much so, that most European newbies seem to have managed to bypass welcome island and head straight for Amsterdam in search of a shagging tutorial, only to find that they aren't free. :P

well if it actually sold for 50K like people said ..

Ive been there since its dead compared to before the sale rumors - I said it then and I say it now its way over priced.

So maybe the Buyer is trying to get his/her money back.

I saw a classified in-world by Stroker (I think) that stated that the sale fell through, and was looking for offers in-world before listing it on eBay again.
